Everhart was able to get two short fly outs but a Deane Grandfield single scored Burke. Slammers win see-saw battle with Indians
The Springfield Indians and South Dayton Slammers moved the start time back an hour to 2:00 at Bellbrook High School and were able to get their first meeting of the year in. Indians starter Matt Spradlin got off to a quick start by striking out 2 of the first 3 batters he faced in the top of the first inning. Ashworth scored on a Jason Jamerson ground out to the shortstop. But the Indians didn't quit as they scored four runs of their own in the fifth and one in the sixth for a 9-4 lead. As the day was getting colder the Slammers chance for a comeback was shrinking as they entered the seventh inning. But with one out Grandfield got another of his four hits on the day to reach first base and went to third on a Jamerson double. Owens singled in both to cut the deficit to 9-6. Owens stole second and made it to third base on a wild pitch. After Anderson walked to put runners on the corner both moved up on another wild pitch to cut into the Indians lead. Casey dominant in Slammers extra-inning W over Bats
The visiting South Dayton Slammers were eager to start the 2012 season vs the revamped Miami Valley Bats at AIA. On paper the game had the potential for a pitcher's duel and it didn't disappoint. On the mound for the Slammers was 2010 All Star and league Cy Young Sean Casey, and for the Bats was number one overall draft pick Kris Brown. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning as the Bats got back-to-back one out singles to put runners on the corners. After a strikeout, Adam Rudy hit a tapper back to Casey and he threw high to first base allowing the run to score. But the Slammers were able to tie the game in the fourth as Matt Owens coaxed a two out walk, stole second and came home on a Rick Anderson triple to right center. Josh Cornwell relived Brown and he picked up where Brown left off. Meahwhile, Casey was cruising along as well as the game remained tied until the top of the tenth inning. With two outs, Deane Grandfield reached first base on an error. He moved up on a wild pitch and headed to third on another fielding error as Jason Jamerson reached first base. Jamerson eventually took off for second and on an errant throw Grandfield scored to give the Slammers the lead. Owens then singled to plate Jamerson for the 3-1 lead. Casey went back out for the 10-inning complete game and put down the Bats in order as Jamerson made a nifty bare-handed play at third to end the game. Casey's line for the game is one for the books: 10 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 HBP and 18 K's.

#4 Whos Hot List
The Slammers look to feed off their franchise-high 22-win regular season with a switch over to the Miami Division for 2012. Coach Rick Anderson picked up his second Coach of the Year honors last season, and will use his experience of building a championship-caliber team to overcome the offseason loss of All-MVABL first teamer Chris Copeland to the A's. This team will still have the bats in Anderson, Dunlap, Ashworth, Owens and the speed in Dixon and Grandfield, but the Slammers will need consistent pitching to keep them atop the division.

DIVISIONAL REALIGNMENT
As a result of the coaches meeting on Feb. 12, the divisional breakdown of teams was redrawn and the results are intriguing.
The two teams with the best 2011 record (Sox, Slammers) have split up. The Slammers will now get a chance at their team's first ever divisional title as a member of the Miami Division in 2012. Joining the Slammers in the move over to the Miami Division are the Cardinals, Redlegs and Bats. Replacing those teams will be the Royals, Athletics and Indians, who now move over to the Buckeye Division.
The Fairborn Fury will join the MVABL for the 2012 season and will side up with their Fairborn brethren in the Buckeye Division.
