South Dayton Slammers: Welcome
Welcome to the South Dayton Slammers home page.
On Tuesday August 16th the Fairborn A's and South Dayton Slammers met for the second and final time in the regular season as the Slammers were the home team. After the A's did not score in the top of the first, the Slammers were able to score a run for the 1-0 lead as Kevin Ashworth reached on an error, moved to third as Deane Grandfield doubled off the fence and scored as Jason Jamerson hit a sacrifice fly to right. The scored remained 1-0 Slammers until the bottom of the 3rd inning. Ben Butler hit a one out single but was forced out on a fielder's choice by PJ Dixon. Ashworth coaxed a walk for runners at first and second. Then on one of the weirder plays of the year Grandfield hit a deep ball to right but as the A's right fielder settled under it, the ball hit the power lines for a ground rule double to score Dixon. Jamerson singled to score Ashworth and Chris Copeland's single knocked in Grandfield. After Matt Owens reached on an error to load the bases, Rick Anderson knocked in two with a single up the middle to round out the 5 runs in the inning for the 6-0 Slammers lead. The A's scored two runs in the fifth inning off starter Jared Wagoner as Ernie Baker hit a two run home run but the Slammers got one run back as Jamerson hit a two out double and scored on a Copeland single. But the A's scored 3 runs in the top of the 6th inning on a two run double by Joey Watson and Watson scored on a Slammer error to cut the deficit to 7-5. The Slammers tried to get those runs back in the 6th as Anderson singled and moved to third base on a Justin Dunlap double down the right field line. But the A's got two strikeouts, hit Butler with a pitch to load the bases but got a strikeout to end the inning. Jeff Beall relieved Wagoner to try and close it out. But he ran into trouble as 3 straight A's singled to load the bases. But he responded by striking out the next two batters. He did throw a wild pitch to allow the A's sixth run but struck out the final A's batter to end the game. Wagoner stuck out 9 over 6 innings to earn his 4th win of the year and Beall earned his second save of the year. The win upped the Slammers record to 21-6 on the year.
