Somerton Youth Org. Policy Playing Within Age Group

It has always been and will remain the policy of Somerton Youth to have children play within their age group for all sports. This is done to ensure a balance throughout the Organization. We are not here for one individual player, parent or team. In the past this rule has been broken on a few occasions and without the consent or knowledge of the board of directors. In order to remain fair to ALL families in the organization, the coaches and commissioners of all sports must know and enforce this policy.

The policy is simple:

ALL CHILDREN MUST PLAY IN THEIR AGE GROUP AS STATED IN THIS ARTICLE!!!!

There will be the following exceptions:

1) The youngest team in all sports shall allow younger children to tryout and participate if they make the team. (ie.. in soccer, a 6 year old can play on under 8 if he/she makes the team).

2) If a child has "played up" in the past, he/she will be permitted to continue for the rest of his/her playing time at Somerton. Please note that a younger child who plays on the youngest team offered at Somerton is not considered as having "played up". (ie.. a 6 year old who makes a 7 year old basketball team must again play for the 7 year old team the following year)

3) If there is no team at an age group, a child may tryout for the team in the next older age bracket.

4) If there is not enough players at one age group, and "extra" players at a lower age group, then children will be allowed to be moved up to the older team at the discretion of the younger teams coach with consultation with the older teams coach.

5) In-house players may "play up" at the discretion of the league commissioners.

UNIFORM DISTRIBUTION

Due to the high amount of children that participated in sports this past year and have failed to register, SYO will enforce its existing policy to have ALL team members in ALL sports registered BEFORE uniforms are distributed.

Uniforms will be ordered through SYO. These players represent SYO, NOT 'John Pizza' or 'Joe Apparel' or any other establishment.
Any team that has not registered all of its players and collected the uniform fees for the entire team WILL NOT be given uniforms. Any team that buys their own uniform without SYO approval eill foreit their referee/umpire fees. If payment for uniforms or registration causes a financial hardship, please discuss this with either Bob Weller or Maria Carroll at registration time or call for a private registration. ALL registration info stays confidential.

Uniform distribution will be done at the clubhouse by appointment with the commissioner of the corresponding sport.
