Inaugral Season
1999 was the inaugural season for the Scarborough Warriors.
Most of the team was recruited from Scarborough. Two players were recruited from Portland.
The team's head coach was Paul Davidson. Assistant coaches were Steve Chamberlain and Will Marchilli.
The team started indoor practices at the Four Seasons Baseball facility in the Fall/Winter of 1998.
In the Spring of 1999 the team started practicing outdoors and eventually got to opening day in early May.
From the very beginning the team worked hard and it paid off with a succession of winning weekends.
Memorial Day weekend marked the first ASA tournament for the new team. They entered a tournament in Lowell, MA and competed extremely well in 90 degree heat coming away with the runner up trophy.
After playing a little above .500 ball in the first few weeks of June, the team headed to Augusta to play in the Junior Olympic Tournament for the State Championship.
Playing in their first night game ever on Friday night the team overcame a talented Lewiston team to get their initial victory.
Several other exciting victories followed mixed with a tough loss to defending champion Augusta. Eventually the team met Augusta in the final and once again came away with the runner-up trophy.
Due to conflicts with Little League All-Star play (many of the players were members of the State Champion Little League Softball team)the team only played a few more games and chose not to compete in the regional ASA
tournament.
All in all, 1999 was a very successful and satisfying season for the Warrior players, coaches, and families.
In 2000 the team changed again, the core of the team was again Scarborough kids but new player from Cape Elizabeth,So. Portland,& Portland were added.
The team played .500 ball again and went on to win two tournaments first was our own tournament "The Southern Maine Diamond Challenge" they played great games against some super local teams. The second was won at the "Millennium Madness" with a sweet victory against the Summerset Lightning who the warriors had tried hard to beat for two years.
In 2001 The Scarborough Warriors changed there name to Southern Maine Flame and moved up to 14-u .New players from So. Portland, Portland, and Naples were added.
The team placed 3rd in a field of 12 at the Leominster tournament in late May. The Flame did well again in the Southern Maine Diamond Challenge, making it to the championship game. Due to rain the game was not played, and the second seed Flame took second place.
At the end of June the girls headed to Belfast for the state Championship Tournament.
This time nothing would stop the girls from taking the Championship. The Flame met the Mainiacs again in the middle of the tournament and again at the end.
Both times the Mainiacs jumped out to an early lead but the Flame would not give in coming back with big innings to win both games 8 to 2 & 13 to 5 to win the Championship and a birth to the NE regionals.
In mid June the NE regionals would be held in Saco.
The team had more conflicts with junior legue, but was able to go to the ASA regionals. Two girls were added to the roster from Cumberland & Porter.
The team played very good softball All weekend and ended up in 8th place.
In 2002 the Flame team added one more girl from Cumberland.
The flames record (36-11) showed a very successful team, but the team seamed to be just short of winning the big games all year.
The team had a disappointing weekend at the state championships ending up in third place.
But with the birth to the N.E. Regionals earned the girls were ready to show what they could really do.
They worked hard for two weeks and headed for R.I.(ASA Regionals).
They did play tremendous softball all weekend to take 4th place.
In 2003 Two more girls were added to the team
One from North Berwick & one from Portland.
The team again changed age groups from 14u to 16u.
