IRVINE, Calif. - Long Beach State had eight players selected to the All-Big West team, including senior Jennifer Griffin, who was tabbed the Co-Field Player of the Year, and Taylor Petty, who claimed Co-Freshman Pitcher of the Year honors, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.

Griffin became just the second 49er to garner Field Player of the Year accolades as Carla Williams last accomplished the feat in 1988. The Whittier, Calif., native finished the regular season batting .329 and led the league in doubles (17), walks (48) and on base percentage (.497), while also tying for the top spot in RBI (40) and runs scored (35). In addition, Griffin was solid in the field, starting every contest at third base and committing just four errors in 122 chances.

Petty earned Long Beach State's third consecutive Freshman Pitcher of the Year award after an impressive campaign in which she went 15-4 with a league-best 1.41 ERA. The San Pedro, Calif., native also collected 15 complete games, four shutouts, 129 strikeouts and limited her opponents to a .206 batting average in 144.1 innings of work.

Both Griffin and Petty were named to the All-Big West first team and were joined by senior Danielle Linke and junior Ashley Weber, marking the second consecutive year the 49ers have placed four players on the first team.

Linke, an outfielder from Whittier, Calif., earned first-team recognition for the second-straight season. This year, she led the 49ers with a .353 batting average and 60 hits, while also ranking second on the squad in RBI (26), doubles (13) and home runs (7).

Weber (Yorba Linda, Calif.) garnered her first all-conference award after a breakthrough season in which she established career highs in batting average (.325), hits (50) and doubles (9). She also led the conference and currently ranks second in the NCAA with an LBSU single-season record 26 sacrifice hits.

Sophomore pitcher Brooke Turner was a second-team All-Big West selection after finishing the regular season with 17 wins, a 2.34 ERA and a team-high 145 strikeouts. The La Palma, Calif., native also compiled 21 complete games and six shutouts, while tossing three one-hitters.

Senior Jonae Perez (Moorpark, Calif.) was also a second-team honoree as a first baseman. A fifth-year senior, Perez has made the most of her final season, batting .289 with 20 RBI. She has recorded a hit in each of the last eight games and currently ranks among the 49er career leaders in walks (89).

Rounding out the all-conference team for The Beach were senior Brianna Goad and junior Brandy Reyes, who both earned honorable mention recognition. Goad (Norco, Calif.) hit .267 during the regular season and was 6-for-7 in stolen bases, while Reyes (Moreno Valley, Calif.) posted a .241 batting average and a .989 fielding percentage.

Long Beach State returns to action this weekend when it makes its 19th trip to the NCAA Division I Softball Championship. The 49ers are headed to the Los Angeles Regional (May 15-17) where they will take on No. 2 national seed and host UCLA in the first round on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
