Epic Kayaks Socal surfski Junior points race series News Flash!!!!

Following the Redondo Beach Ocean Surfski race on Saturday the Epic Junior Surfski points series really starts to heat up with Ryan Stock and Lexie Bohlman now tied at the top of the table with 275 points each.

Close behind with 270 points is Katarina La Jeunesse who is hotly chased by Sydney Bohlman and Nick Hanoian who are tied for 4th with 268 points each.

The chance to win a brand new Epic V10 Surfski is still up in the air as there is no clear decisive leader and with 2 races still left in the series its hard to predict the overall winner. The Dana Point race on March 7th and Marina Del Rey on March 21st will be sure to be full of exciting duels between these impressive young ocean racers.

Ryan Stock has been quietly winning the short course races under 19 division, always finishing in the top ten. He is currently on the USA Junior Sprint Kayak National Team and raced last year with Nick Hanoian in Moscow. He races an Epic Legacy K1 on flat water and an Epic V10 surfski in the Ocean races.

After Hanohano Ocean Challenge and the Hal Rosoff Classic:::

Following the 6th race of the SoCal Winter Race Series on a windy day in Newport Beach, and the 5th race the week before at the Hano Hano event in San Diego, the race for the brand new Epic Surfski gets really interesting.

Now that older sister Lexie Bohlman has completed a total of 5 races she takes over the top spot pushing Sydney into 2nd place who is now tied with Junior National team member Nick Hanoian. Further down the field are Ryan Stock and Katarina La Juenesse who have had some recent wins and with only 4 races down stand to move towards the top once they complete their 5th race.

Coming up over the next two months are the Redondo Beach, Dana Point and Malibu to Marina races. Its still any ones race and its going to come down to the last few races to see who paddles away on a brand new Epic V10L surfski.

After the Santa Barbara Series event- Epic Standings

The contest to win the EPIC KAYAKS V10 Surfski in the SOCAL Winter Race Series Junior divisions continues to heat up with the completion of Race #4 in the series last Saturday on a beautiful clear, calm and warm Santa Barbara winters day!

Conditions were calm with the occasional small runs north, but with a nice current pushing the racers on the home stretch south. USA National Team member Patrick Dolan on an EPIC V10 Value construction won the Open Men's Long Course race with a lead of 4 minutes ahead of USA Team Member, Tim Hornsby. In 3rd place and first master was Chris Barlow on an EPIC V10 Ultra. For full results go to...

However, with a new EPIC surfski on the line the real competition was amongst the Juniors on the Short Course. 14 year old Sydney Bohlman pulled out an awesome performance to finish 18th overall and stays atop the points table with 217 points from 4 races. She is closely followed by her older sister 15 year old Lexie who is in 2nd place based on points from only 3 races.

Positions are sure to change as the Hano Hano race on the 31st January, 2009 is the 5th in the series and racers are able to start dropping their lowest scores as only 5 races will count towards the overall title.

The current overall standings are listed on the spreadsheet attached along with pictures of the paddling phenoms the Bohlman sisters.....

previous standings:

This Saturdays Tecolote 5000m was a great success! Despite being a cold and windy day on Mission Bay over 100 paddlers showed up with unwrapped toys for the San Diego Fire Rescues Mobile Santa toy drive. The entry fee proceeds helped support San Diego Canoe and Kayak Team and provided cash awards to the top points winners. MANY MANY THANKS to all who raced and stayed for the duration.

BE SURE TO CHECK OUT DOMINICK"S ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC PHOTOS OF THE RACE AT:

Special Thanks to our Race Sponsors, JOE BARK PADDLE BOARDS for providing the race boards, H2O AUDIO, CASEMAN Inc, POWERBAR and last but not least EPIC KAYAKS. Also a Huge Thank you to the members and families of San Diego Canoe and Kayak Team for providing the food and for acting as volunteers and race officials, safety boat drivers, and for helping the kids get their boats on the water and watching and cheering them on while they raced.

There was some fantastic races on the water with USA National Team Member Tim Hornsby narrowly beating Bob Maesen of the Belgium Olympic Team and World Championship Silver Medalist in the last few yards of the 5000m.

9 Year old Noah Hopper won the under 10 2000m race.

We were especially happy to host our good friends from the Ensenada Kayak Team in Mexico who made the trip up to San Diego and raced so well. SDCKT is also excited to launch our new fleet of 16 Lightning Trainer K1 kayak's that many of the kids raced in. These boats were purchased with the first installment of grant money from the LA 84 Foundation. They are the little yellow boats in Dominick's photos.

Attached are the EPIC KAYAKS Junior Points Standings after 3 races in the SoCal Winter Race series. With Lexie Bohlman, Nick Hanoian and Ryan Stock opting to race K1 to see if they can get points in the Tecolote Race, it left the door open for some surfski paddlers to catch up in the standings.

Paddling obviously runs in the Bohlman family as Lexie's younger sister Sydney now stands on top of the points table with 14 year old Jessica Jenkins in hot pursuit. With 6 races still left in the series its still wide open and the excitment builds for us to find out who will be the Overall winner of the Epic V10 surfski
.
