Wednesday, October 29 Divisions It takes three entries to field a division. We are eliminating the Elite division and awarding the Open division to 4th place in both mens and womens oc1 and surfski. In addition to that we are upping the age for Masters to 40-49 and Senior Masters 50-59 and if we have them, Golden Masters is 60+ Saturday, October 5 Points Points are awarded to the top 12 finishers overall for men and women oc-1 and men and women surfski (disregarding division placement) 1st place = 12 points 2nd = 11 points 3rd = 10 points etc. We will keep a running score for consistent partners in oc-2, men, women and mixed. This will help us determine additional award distribution at the season end. But to be fair- same partners for each race will be monitored. Points are calculated for each race. Two low point races will be dropped leaving 6 out of 8 races to be used to determine the final series winner. To be considered a cash prize/series winner- you must show some committment to the series,to that end we are asking that you race at least 5 of the 8 races. Cash prize distribution depends on sponsorship. Each host club will donate $100 toward the prize purse. In addition to the regular tabulation of points as done in the past, and noted above, we will be using a race-by-race standing based on a percentage formula off the lead time for each division. It provides a different method of deteriming a winner. Widely used for competition in other associations. We thought we'd give it a try. Entry Fees/ Liability Release forms Most races will be a $15-$20 entry fee. Fees need to be paid at time of registration - before each race. Liability release forms will be signed at the first race and will be on hand for each race there after. Please be sure you have a release form on file before you race. Release of Liability can be downloaded from the Flyers/Results page. Drafting Drafting, wake-riding, etc. Let's agree that for the SoCal series, we will NOT ride the wake of a 2-person craft if we are on a single, be it a surfski or oc-1. If you think you can "ride" one of your own, i.e. ski on ski, oc-1 on oc-1 in the same division, and you feel good about that.. then, go ahead and try. As one competitior put it: ".... I train to do my best to come to these races and pay entry fees to take on other paddlers on a ONE-ON-ONE competition. I don't come out to watch a group of paddlers JOY-RIDING on a doubles wash for an hour and a half, just to do a 10 second sprint to decide the outcome." |
