Epic Kayaks Socal surfski Junior points race series News Flash!!!!

2008/09 EPIC KAYAKS SOCAL WINTER JUNIOR SURFSKI RACE SERIES

Last Saturday in Marina Del Rey, the final race of the 2008/2009 SOCAL Winter Race series, 16 year old Lexie Bohlman secured a spot in Ocean Racing History by being the first winner of the Southern California Junior Series and to take home a brand new Epic Kayaks V10L Surfski.

The series consisted of 9 races with Junior’s picking their best 5 races for their overall point scores. In the end the race for top junior became very tight between Lexie Bohlman, Sean Barlow and Ryan Stock. USA Junior National Kayak team member, Stock had some outstanding performances throughout the series winning overall in many of the races and not once loosing an under 19 race. However, because of age points, Ryan needed Lexie to be beaten or to not score high in the race placing points section.

Ryan’s wishes almost came true when Katarina La Jeunesse managed to beat Lexie in a couple of the races. Bohlman, however, recovered her form and got back into the lead with a tie on the 5 races with 14 year old Sean Barlow. In the event of a tie it came down to who raced the most races in the series and Lexie’s consistency paid off as she only missed one race all winter.

Lexie took possession of her new Epic V10L Surfski with a huge smile and a “thank you, thank you, and thank you” to Epic Kayaks and to her Mom and Dad for driving her to all the races!!!

Despite all these races Lexie and Ryan now have to concentrate on their Olympic Epic Legacy K1 Kayaks, as they are racing in USA Junior National Team Trials at The Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, April 24th, 25th and 26th. Lexie will race in the K2 with training partner and surfski race rival Katarina La Jeunesse, Ryan joins forces with Nick Hanoian to race in the K2 also.

We braved the weather! with waterspouts sighted in both San Diego and Long Beach- we were lucky to have had no raing during the whole race! Gotta love it. Thanks to NAC, the Rosoff family and everyone who came out to play!
