ATHLETES LIFT WEIGHTS---CHEERLEADERS LIFT ATHLETES!!!!!
Cheerleading Competitions have become a very popular sporting event. Cheerleading squads from all over Rhode Island came to show their dance moves and routines in hopes of winning the RI Preteen Cheerleading Competition which was held at Rhode Island College on Saturday, November 17, 2007.
The amount of time and dedication involved in getting ready for a cheerleading competition is unbelievable. Depending on the level of skill involved, the team can spend up to 20 hours each week just practicing their 3 minute routine that they will perform for Competition. The Smithfield Viking cheerleaders’ passion and dedication paid off when the Smithfield Viking Junior PeeWee Cheerleaders became Rhode Island PreTeen Cheerleading Champions in the Junior PeeWee Division for 2007 on Saturday. They were also awarded the Most Spirit Award.

Although our Jr. Varsity and Varsity team did not take home a title this year, they made us proud because of their sportsmanship and character that they have built throughout the years. They did a superb job and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next year.

Among the Smithfield Vikings, the other teams that competed that day were Johnston Panthers, North End 49ers, North Providence Jets, North Smithfield Xpress, Pawtucket Crusaders, South Side Saints, Washington County Raiders, West Elmwood Intruders, and Woonsocket Redskins. We would like to congratulate all the girls for the exceptional job they did along with their coaches. We also would like to thank all the Viking parents for their support throughout the season and for being the best fans in the world. Together we have all built memories that will last a lifetime.
All the Viking cheerleaders and coaches would like to thank Bonnie Marra, our cheerleader coordinator, for all of her hard work and thank her assistant, Donna Conley for everything she has done. They were a very big part of making this day a success. Let’s not forget all the volunteers that gave so willingly and the judges for taking the time to judge.
We would like to take this opportunity to invite girls ages 6-14 to come join the Viking Cheerleaders. We may not always win but we have a lot of fun!!!!
