Sienna Plantation Youth Baseball League: My Site News
President's Letter
To all of the families of Sienna Plantation Youth Baseball,
I am Gary Castaldo and I am the President of SPYBL for 2010. I want to thank all of you for your past support of the league and I hope to see all of you (and your friends and relatives) out at the fields this spring. There are a few things I would like to let you know about for our upcoming season.
First, we are excited for construction to begin very soon on our batting cage complex. With five chutes, retractable nets, full turf, pitching machines and all of it under a large roof, this complex will be the envy of the county and we can’t wait for it to be completed. With some luck, friendly building officials and good weather we should be using it around mid season.
Second, the board and a group of hearty volunteers have been diligently working on getting the fields in shape for the season. Laying down new and better infield dirt, leveling the infield grass and getting insecticides and herbicides down has taken some time, but we are close and they will be looking good for Opening Day. Please keep your eyes on your email for notices of upcoming work days as we put on the final touches for the start of the season.
Bringing me to the next point, which is Opening Day, player evaluations and practices. Player evaluations will be held on Feb. 6, and we will get word out for the location and times for each division in the next few days. Teams will be put together the following week and practices will begin soon after. Opening Day this spring will be held on Saturday, Feb. 27. We realize that this is the same day as the Gatorpalooza for the elementary school, but we will be done with our festivities by lunch, so you can get your BBQ burger or hot dog lunch and then head to their event, or just stick around for a long, lazy afternoon of baseball.· Lastly, we still need sponsors. Team sponsors need to be in by Feb. 5 so we can sort things out for jersey printing. Please check the website for information, and there are many other sponsorship opportunities noted there as well. Thank you for your generosity.
I am very grateful to both last year’s board and to the new board for their efforts in constantly improving our already great league. Our league’s continued growth is a sign of things being done well. Please remember that the regular registration period closes THIS SUNDAY, JAN 31. Late registrations will be accepted, but with a late fee. Let your friends and neighbors know of the deadline if they haven’t registered their kids. I am looking forward to a great spring season and I am excited to get out to the ball park. I’ll see you there, GaryMonday, January 4
