Just How Good Is This Years Boys Team ? / Final 2009-10 Stats Updated as of 2-20-10
What a great season the Gators had this year. One game short, but once the hurt is over, we had a fantastic season, one of the best in team history. Statistically, this team was better than 2008-09. But the 08/09 team made the finals. Who was better, you decide. Personally, I had a blast with both of them.

Gators have Heart Wrenching Loss in Semi's
When you’re goal is to shoot for the moon, if you miss, you reach for the stars. These Gators, missed the moon, but they did grab a star. Disappointment abounds tonight and it will hurt for a few days, but time heals all wounds. The goal was a State Championship and we came up just a little short. Make no mistake, the boys on this team are Champions. They worked their tails off to be the best. Play the same team tomorrow, and you may have a different result. Shreve played hard, but fell to Lafayette 1-0. I can honestly say, they left everything on the field. This was probably the state championship game. I felt the winner of this one, will win it all. This team has nothing to hang their head about. The Gator Nation is so proud of all you have done, and the excitement you have brought to the school. Thanks to all of you that came out and supported the team. I wanted 100 students to show up and I believe that was doubled. Thank you very much.
On with the game. It was a battle from the opening whistle. Lafayette is by far the most talented team we played this year. Unfortunately, we do not have the opportunity to face this type of team except in tournaments, so they may have caught us a little off guard. The first half, they out played us and won most 50/50 balls. Even with that, we were tied 0-0 at the half. We did step it up in the second half and played a little more aggressive, possession was closer to 50 /50. In the 48th minute, Lafayette made a great skilled play on a short cross and a one touch shot for goal. No excuses from the defense, they made a great play. Once that happened, the Lions stacked the box and played total defense. In the last 10 minutes of the game, the Gators hammered the goal. We had 7 true shots within the frame of the goal and the Lafayette keeper was in the right place at the right time. We pounded and pounded, but just couldn’t get one in. But, we never quit. We have a tremendous set of Juniors coming back and they will lead the Gators next year. Christopher, Mat, Chris, Zach, Hayden and Connor. Take this team to the next level. It’s your time.
You will have to indulge me now, we have a lot of Seniors and they all deserve a comment. Tyler Wagnon – has great heart and gives his all when given the opportunity. He was able to come in and give the starters a break. He did a great job and provided great support. Jonathon Reisz - Our only two way player. Midfield and defense. Jonathon is a delight. He can come in at any time, at either position and contribute to help the team. His speed and skill is a great asset to the team. Tyler Smith - Of all the Senior starters, Tyler may get the least recognition, but deserves so much credit. He is a mainstay on defense on the left side. Not only is he a great defender, he is a threat to take off and start a transition to attack. Tyler is the total package. Sean McCullough - Great speed and great skills. Sean was such a great part of this team. He dazzled opponents with his footwork, while at the same time he was looking for the next pass. He didn’t score a lot, but he set up many of our goals. Jordan Gray - Probably one of the best 1-2 punch midfielders in the state. Jordan worked the midfield very strongly. He was a threat to score from anywhere. His free kicks were legendary. Will Monsour - Absolutely, one of the best players in the state. Will stepped his game up from last year to this year like no one else. He was appointed Captain and took the role to heart. He led by example. I was so thrilled to watch how he grew as a player and a leader this year. We would not have had the success we did without this young man. Austin Wisby - No doubt the biggest surprise of the season. The team knew Austin could play keeper, but no one could have imagined how good he was going to be. Only 11 goals were scored on us and a lot of people will say the defense had a lot to do with that. But anyone who watch all of our games, knows very well, Austin saved many goals based on his own effort. Having not played keeper since he was 10 years old, he was incredible to watch. Logan Calhoun - Becoming a starter midway through his Freshman year, he played more minutes than anyone on the team in the last 3 years. Logan is a 2 year Captain and the leader of the defense. He led the team in cleared balls and took on the best attacker of every team. For me, I was disappointed to see the team lose tonight, but I was more disappointed to watch Logan’s last game. I know all of the Senior parents feel the same about their son. Gators, We as your parents know you are hurting, but please understand, we are so proud of each of you. You have given us many thrills and we appreciate you letting us go along for the ride. Matt and Clint, What you two have done over the last 6-7 years has been incredible. The two of you have brought Shreve soccer to the top of the heap. I felt so priviledge to work closely with you and help you accomplish your goals. Simply stated, YOU ROCK !

Gators Take A Bite out of Bears. Advance to Semi Finals.
The team traveled in style to Baton Rouge to take on the Catholic Bears. A very nice charter bus/limo made it a smooth trip. A special thanks to the Gator Athletic Council on helping sponsor the bus. The trip was smooth, but the game started a little bumpy. The field was mostly dry with a few wet spots and one pretty muddy spot. A little windy but not too bad. There were better fields on the complex, but home team has their pick. Hey, if you want to slow down a gazelle, you need to make it hard to run. And that strategy worked, for a about 25 minutes. It took a while for the Gators to get the kinks worked out. In the first 15 minutes alone, Catholic had 4 corner kicks and 3 direct kicks within 25 yards. It's very fortunate we have a 6'2 keeper. Austin was very effective reaching above everyone and punching out potential goals. Finally with 3 minutes left in the first half, Sean McCullough made a great cross from left side of the penalty box to Connor Randel on the right side of the goal. Connor took 3 touches, foot - knee - foot and goal. 1-0 at the half. During halftime, I took a minute to look around and saw what great support we had. I'm guessing 40 or a few more fans for Shreve. Former players, relatives, friends and of course parents. Dr. McCalla was there cheering us on. A big help for this team is our ability to strike quickly in the beginning of the 2nd half. We have done it many times this season and today was no different. Three minutes into the 2nd half Connor goes 90 yards on his own. He past 5 defenders as they tried to stab at the ball. You can not stab at Connor. As the Bears begin to pick their underwear off the ground, Connor had only the keeper left. No problem, he goes around him for a short 5 yard tap in. I've never seen a 90 yard breakaway. It was beautiful !! After that goal, the Gators settled down and controlled the rest of the game. With 20 minutes left, Neal Usry took a shot that hit the keeper and Connor got the rebound and goal # 3. Can you say hat trick (again). Connor's third in 3 playoff games. In the 73rd minute the scoring was finished with a great 25 yard direct kick by Neal. The keeper never had a chance. Game ends 4-0.
Once we settled in, everyone played pretty well. The offense never let's up. The longer the game gets, the more intense we become and the more opportunites we create. Monsour and Gray in the middle continue to control the flow of the game. With Sean, Chris H and Hayden trading in and out on the outside mids, we continually have fresh legs and that creates huge problems for the opposing defense. Speaking of defense, ours is pretty good. Other than direct kicks or corner kicks, Catholic did not get one legitimate shot on goal. Christopher, Logan, Will T. & Tyler, dominate their end of the field. 10 goals allowed in 29 games. .34 goals per game, Amazing!! Austin continues to play well. This may have been a top 3 game for him.
We will play Lafayette on Saturday at 6:00. Lee Hedges Stadium. Please come and support this great team. No school, No parades. No Excuses. It would be awesome to see 100 or more students in the stands. We appreciate all of you that have been attending. Please come Saturday and bring a classmate or two. One game left before the State Finals. GOOOOO ! Gators.

Gators Win Second Round. Heading to Baton Rouge for the Quarter Final
Northshore will get to have Mardi Gras without worrying about a playoff game. The Gators helped them with that due to our 6-1 win today. #15 Northshore came to town intent on an upset. Didn't happen. Jordan Gray started the scoring in the 9th minute on a great free kick from 20 yards out. A left to right bender just inside the right post. In the 25th minute, Will Terracciano started a play when he passed to Chris Hammond who in turn got the ball to Connor Randel. Connor had a great dribble in and around defenders before finally getting the score. 3 minutes later Will Monsour sent a ball from the left side of the penalty area to the right side of the goal area, where from 6 yards out Chris Hammond had a one touch sidewinder that was beautiful. Score at the half 3-0. Early in the second half we scored an own goal to give Northshore their only goal. But 4 minutes later we score # 4 as Will M. goes in close for the shot, it's kicked away by the Northshore keeper, right to Connor. Two touches later it's 4-1. We finshed the game out with Sean scoring on an assist from Connor and another Will M shot deflected by keeper and score by Connor. Two playoff games and two Connor Randel hat tricks. Can he go 5 for 5. I hope so. With Catholic High School winning tonight, we will travel to Baton Rouge for our next game. Tuesday at 3:30. 2 down 3 to go. Keep it up Gators. Also, great Student support. When we come back for the semi final, lets see that again and more.

Gators take 1st step in Playoffs with win over Ouachita
The last 3 years the Gators have struggled in the 1st round of the playoffs. Lost one and squeaked by in the other two, only 1-0. Things were a little different today. The Gators were very solid in all phases. We played solid defense allowing only 3 shots on goal. The midfield controlled play, keeping it in our half of the field most of the game. The forwards came through and scored 4 of our 6 goals. We started early in the 3rd minute with Chris Hammonds goal on a Will Monsour perfect pass to center, right in front of the goal, easy one touch for Chris. 20 minutes later Neal Usry set up Will for the second goal. In the 28th minute our streak of no goals scored against us since 12-28-09, was lost as Ouachita scored on a header from a free kick. That was quickly answered with an Usry goal in the 30th minute. Neal was assisted by Will Terracciano. The 1st half ends 3-1. The second half we took greater control and never looked back. Connor Randel scored 3 goals on assist from Neal, Will and a double assist from Johnathon Reisz and Usry again. Final score 6-1. Great game Gators. Northshore is up next. Wednesday the 10th at Lee Hedges Stadium. Game time - 5:00.

Boys End Regular Season on a High Note.
Some were worried about playing a game that we had nothing to gain. Me included. We should win, no doubt, but if we should in someway lose, we drop in the rankings and that's a killer when you are currently # 2. Apparently, the coaches and players weren't worried at all. We went across town, and put it on Calvary. Final score 8-0. Hayden Price scored in the 3rd minute off an assist from Mat Edwardes, and then for the next 26 minutes Calvary made a game of it. We controlled the ball, but couldn't get any goals. In the 29th minute, Will Monsour put in a penalty kick and then, the Gators proceeded to kick the door open. Goals begin to pour in at that point. In the next seven minutes, Connor Randel scored, Sean McCullough scored and Gabe Gray scored. Assist came from Mat Edwardes, Jordan Gray, Will M. and Will T. The best goal of the 1st half was a 40 yard right to left cross from Will Terracciano to Gabe who put in a header from 8 yards out. 5 - 0 at the half. The defense was playing great. At the half, Calvary had no shots on goal. That changed in the 42nd minute. Austin Wisby made a great save on the goal line from a hard shot only 6 yards away. After the game I asked Austin if that was a self defense save and he was very casual. " No, I saw their guy running to the post, I was just waiting on him". In the 2nd half the scoring continued. Sean scored again, Gabe got his second header off of a long pass, this time from Christopher Lawrence, left to right about 35 yards out. The last goal came from Will M. He had just sent a corner kick into the goal area, it got knocked out into the field, Will just kick it back to the goal. It was a nice right to left bender that just floated in for the final 8-0 score.
Great job Gators - 26 down / 5 to go.

Boys are Undefeated District Champions
When the season started, this team never doubted that we could go undefeated for the second year in a row. Over the past two years the Gators are 18-0 in our District.. It isn't big news that we handled Southwood without any problem, winning 9-0. What was a nice goal to have, but improbable, was not getting scored on in District. Well, the improbable happened. The shutout tonight gave the Gators their goal. We out scored our District opponents 46-0. Overall this team has allowed only 8 goals in 25 games. We now have 17 shutouts in 25 games. Pretty remarkable. This team is playing very well and we have one major goal left to accomplish. But, as it has been said, one game at a time. We have one regular season game left against Calvary on Tuesday Feb 2nd. The playoffs begin the 2nd week of February. We need the support of the Gator Nation to help us the rest of the season. Gator Mail will post our schedule as it is made available.
Tonight - Goals Mat-1, Gabe-1, Jordan-1, Chris -1, Neal-2, Austin-2, Kenny-1
Assist Mat -1, Gabe -1, Will M. - 2, Tyler W. -1 Austin -1

JV Boys End a Succesful 2009/10 Season
A big congratulations to the JV team. What a great season they had. 13-4-2. The best JV season in a long time. Shreve soccer is in good hands for the future. Friday night closed out their season with a heartbreaking loss to Byrd. Rumor has it Byrd played 5 of their varsity players. I guess you gotta do what you gotta do. Despite that, Shreve played a good game. Byrd scored first on an unlucky defensive miscue, as a Byrd player intercepted a pass back and scored. Not too much later Byrd scored again on a nice combination. The Gators were down 2-0 at th half. Now, they could have given up and had a pitty party, but they didn't. Halfway through the second half the Chism / McCarney partnership struck for the Gators first goal. A few minutes later Byrd made an own goal, but the credit goes to Alex Mc. who told me " I scared the ball in". Sounds good to me. Unfortunately, with a minute to go, Byrd got their third goal and got the win. Good season guys. 13 wins, very nice !!!!

Shreve Girls score on Byrd
The Lady Jackets scored at the 10 minute mark when a shot bounced down off the cross bar and into the goal. The Lady Gators responded with their own goal 3 minutes later. A cross from Caydence found the foot of Vanessa Beza. I think the Byrd players were a bit shocked. Byrd went on to win 6-1.

Boys Defeat Byrd to Remain Undefeated in District
The Varsity boys had a good night, tonight. Byrd's real chance was to stack their defense and hope to keep us out of the goal. They played 6 in the back instead of the usual 3 or 4. It didn't help. Connor got lose and on a short pass from Hammond, he got the 1st goal in the 4th minute. With Byrd playing so many on defense, we kept the ball in their end of the field probaly 80% of the game. In the 34th minute, Will M. sent a pass to Hammond who put it in for a 2-0 lead. Three minutes later, Connor passed a ball back from just off the end line to Neal coming up the middle. Neal puts it in for the 3-0 lead and that ended the 1st half. The second half saw a lot of starters on the bench, and a lot of quality time for others. The back-ups did a great job and kept control of the ball. In the 52nd minute, Mat passed across the field to Sean who made some of his patented moves and scored our final goal from about 10 yards away. Byrd had two shots on goal and they were easily handled by Austin. The defense let very little get through on our end. Good game in all phases tonight.
Thursday, January 21
Girls score on Magnet
The final score may have been 6-1, but the Lady Gators did score on the Lady Mustangs. Caydence Leber had a beautiful curving shot off her left foot that tucked into that top left corner of the goal, tying the game 1-1. It must have been a wake up call for Magnet. They won the game easily. Our girls are working hard, they just aren't getting many shots on goal.

J V Boys lose a close one to Magnet.
On Tuesday night, the Gators faced Caddo Magnet in what was supposed to be a close game. And, that's exactly what it was. The boys played tough, but game up a little short. In the 10th minute, Magnet scored on an 18yard free kick. It was very well placed and not much Zach could do to stop it. Just a few minutes later, Kenny Chism had a nice shot about 10 yards in front of the Mustang goal. He was assisted by Alex McCarney. 30 seconds before the half ended, the Mustangs got another goal. At halftime it's 2-1. The second half was a gutsy effort for Shreve. Six minutes into the half, we were given a red card and played the next 24 minutes a man down. The game went back and forth, with about 65% played on our defensive end. We managed to keep Magnet out of our goal, but we just couldn't put one in for ourselves. We had some good shots and other opportunites, we just couldn't capitalize. Good Game guys. Let's look to Byrd on Thursday.
Monday, January 18
Gators Take a Bite out of the Mustangs
I have never seen a Mustang that could beat a Gator in "The Swamp". After a lackluster performance against Neville, the Gators game out biting tonight. We got off to a hot start when Will Monsour shot and barely missed a goal in the first minute. After that we played on their end of the field for most of the first half. In the 24th minute, Hayden Price made a pass from the 50 to Neal Usry who collected it at the 30. Neal made a couple of nice touches and got by the keeper for an easy score. 1-0. Seven minutes later, Sean McCullough was deep in the Magnet end of the field and while at the left post, crossed the ball to Monsour for the short one touch goal. The half ended at 2-0 and you could tell Shreve had this game under control. Two minutes into the second half, Chris Hammond passed to Sean who made some moves on the defense, a slid a shot between the Magnet keeper and the right post for the 3-0 lead. In the 63rd minute, Will assisted Connor Randel for the 4th goal and icing on the cake. Connor missed most of the game with a 1st half ankle injury, but apparently couldn't stay out. Making the most of his return to the game, Connor put the whipped cream on the icing with the 5th and final goal, assisted by Mat Edwardes. This years Seniors are 6-3 against Magnet over the last 4 years. This is one of the best records against Magnet of any Senior Class. The 5-0 win tonight was the largest margin of victory against Magnet. This is also the first year Magnet has not scored against Shreve. Tyler S., Christopher, Logan, Will T. and Austin are doing an amazing job on defense. Everyone played well tonight. If we can keep this up, we can go all the way to the end and win the whole thing. Congrats to all of you, great game.

J V is 2-0 in Cancelled Parkway Tournament
It looks like the only thing that can stop the young Gators from winning another tournament is the weather. After two decisive wins Friday night, the Parkway JV Tournament was cancelled due to rain. At 5:30 on Friday Shreve played a very outmanned Minden team. Within the first three minutes it was 3-0. At the half is was 5-0. Ten minutes in the second have the game was over due to the 7 goal mercy rule. Coming back at 9:00 the Gators faced Parkway. This game was pretty much the same as the last time, with Shreve blanking the Panthers 3-0. If I'm not mistaken this leave the team with a 11-1-0 tournament record this year. Not Bad, Not bad at all. Great job guys.

Gators Escape Neville with 1-0 win
Not our best effort tonight. Basically after having the week off with two easy wins, the Gators were just not into this game. From one end to the other, it was uninspirational. Will Monsour had a nice goal when he intercepted a Neville pass, but other than that, there were no highlights. The good news is, Great teams can win, even when not at their best. We did that. We return to District matches Monday night against Magnet and again on Thursday with Byrd . We need a great effort, a good crowd and a lot of enthusiasm. I know these two games will bring out our best. I'm confident we will get back on track and close with another District Championship.
Practice Sunday at 3:00.

Neville over Girls 2-0
The girls played well, they just needed some more shots on goal. Neville scored in the 7the minute on a scramble in front of the goal. Beth took a hard hit, but continued to protect the goal with the dedication we have come to expect from her. In fact Neville second goal came from outside the 18 right over her reach.
I admire our girls spirit. They always play with determination and they never give up. Keep it up. You never know when that attitude will pay off!

Girls Defeat Southwood 6-0
The game started going our way very quickly. Moving the ball through the defense, Caydence Leber scored within the first two minutes of play. The next goal felt like a flashback from last season when Caitlyn Abney delivered a perfect pass to Caydence, who slammed it into the back corner of the net. Kaitie Garret got the third goal of the night. She slammed a soft pass from Lacey McCoy at the goal which was deflected by the goalie, but Kaitie was there and proves that you should always follow your shot. Caydence scored the fourth on a breakaway. The fifth goal went to Caityn Abney on shear perseverance! It was a beautiful moment of soccer. And finally, Lauren Barnett took advantage of another shot deflected off the goalie for number six. Defense easily dealt with all challenges. Way to go Lady Gators! Keep shooting.

Gators put the Hurt on Southwood
The Gators faced a very overmatched Southwood Cowboys tonight. The score was 9-0, but could have been 20-0. Many times Connor and Will pulled away from shots that were sure goals. It was obvious the team had to make passes and runs before they could take a shot. Except for Zach Kahre. He was told to shoot early and shoot often. Unfortunately, his aim was off just a little. Finally, he scored on a penalty kick. Now we get a day of rest and travel to Neville to take on a top 10 Div 2 team.
Goals - Cassel - 2, Edwardes - 1, G. Gray - 1, Monsour - 2, Price - 1, Randel - 1 Kahre - 1 Assist - G. Gray - 1, J Gray - 1, Randel - 1, Wagnon - 1

Girls lose to Airline 2-0
The Lady Gators repelled shot after shot, but Airline finally put one in the net late in the first half. Their second goal came early in the second half. Let’s face it, if your opponent is taking 20 shots for every one you take, they are going to come out on top. It's time to get some shots on goal!
Tuesday, January 12
Boys Teams Hammer the Vikings.
Varsity - This game was pretty much like the last time we played Airline. The Vikings are young and inexperienced and it showed tonight. They had only one real shot on our goal and it was saved by Zach Kahre. Austin played keeper in the 1st half and saw no real action as the Vikings rarely got into our defensive third. The offense moved the ball at will and seemed to score whenever they wanted to. The final was 7-0. Goals by Dylan Cassel - 1 Mat Edwardes - 1, Chris Hammond -2, Sean McCullough -1 & Connor Randel - 2. Assist - Will Monsoour - 2, Hayden Price - 3, Connor Randel - 2.
J.V. - This game was also dominated by the Gators. Michael White got the 1st Goal off of an assist from Chris Morton. Alex McCarney got # 2 on a shot from outside the 18, on a nice pass from Kenny Chism. Kenny and Alex swapped places on the third goal as Kenny scores from Alex's throw in. The final goal was scored by Daniel Banks from a Chism corner kick. Game ends 4-0.
Varsity plays tonight at Hedges - 6:00 and the JV have the night off.

Gators put a Goose egg on the Panthers
Varsity - This game started like a prize fight with the Gators getting a feel for the Parkway defense. Ball movement was good and we had a few nice shots, but nothing special. After 24 minutes, Christopher Lawrence had, had enough. He came from the defensive side of the field, gathered the ball around 30 yards out, and took it to the goal for the first score. That started the onslaught. Jordan Gray had a free kick from the left side at 28 yards out and nailed it, untouched into the net. This made it 2-0 at the half. One minute into the second half, Hayden Price sent a long crossing ball from left to right and it met Gabe Gray on the other side. Gabe took a couple of steps and scored the 3rd goal. At the 67th minute, Neal Usry had a great pass to Austin Wisby, who took one hop into the air and put it in the goal with a nice one touch effort. It was nice to have Hayden back on the field recovering from his broken wrist and Austin got some good time on the field and out from his usual keeper position. Zach Kahre took over at keeper in the second half and did a good job saving the only two shots he faced. Shreve completely dominated this game as expected. Everyone played well, defense got another shut out and the offense left the Panthers worn out. Next week we have 3 games in 4 days. Get rested and get ready guys. Good job tonight.
J.V. The young Gators also pitched a shutout tonight. And as the Varsity completely dominated their game, so did the J.V. It didn't appear that way in the first half, as each team remained scoreless. The Gators moved the ball well and had some chances, but just couldn't capitalize. The second half was a different story. Not sure what the coaches told the team, but they must have listened. In the first 15 minutes of the second half, Shreve scored 3 goals to put this one away. Kenny Chism got one with a beautiful volley inside the 18, Michael White and Michael Ritz also got one apiece, mostly on clean up duty, putting in deflections, in front of the goal. That's called "cleaning up the garbage."
If you have not watched a J.V. game you need to come early or stay late. They are a really good team. Probably, the best I have seen in my 4 years of Shreve soccer. I believe the future is in good hands. Great job guys. ( Thanks parents for your input)

St. Pauls All Tournament Team Selections
Congratulations to Austin Wisby, goalkeeper, for being the Captain Shreve representative on the St. Pauls Invitational All Tournament team. Good Job, Austin !!!!
Wednesday, December 30
Gators Do Well at St. Pauls Invitational.
How do you not break bracket and consider youself as having done well? Here's how. You play in what was considered the toughest bracket, by far. You play the #2 team in Div 2, the # 9 and # 3 team in Div 1. You play while missing 3 starters and having only 4 subs. If you survive, you did well. We more than survived.
Game 1 - Defeated St. Louis for the 2nd time in 10 days 2-1. The fields were to say the least, soft and mushy. It really slowed us down. However, Will Monsour was able to get two balls into the St. Louis goal for the 2-1 victory. We allowed one goal on a corner kick. As the ball crossed in front of our goal, Austin made a great effort to push it away. Unfortunately, a St. Louis player was standing where the ball was directed, he kicked it in for their lone score.
Game 2 - Defeated Fountainbleu 2-0 This field was worse than the first one. But, 6 minutes into the game, Connor Randel got a goal. He was assisted by Mat Edwardes who headed a ball to Neal Usry, who inturn passed to Connor. The next 60 minutes went by with not much happening. We moved the ball around some and got some shots, but nothing concrete. With about 5 minutes to go, Connor had some nice dribbling and punched in the insurance goal. Mat again was there with the assist. Austin had 3-4 really nice saves and the defense kept Fountianbleu shut down for most of the game to perserve the shutout.
Game 3 - Tied Brother Martin 1-1. This is a game we had to win to advance. Both teams go into this game with a 2-0 record. The 4th tiebreaker, which is fewest goals allowed, went to Brother Martin. We had allowed 1 and they had allowed none. So it's win or go home. This game was played at Hunter Stadium which has turf like Hedges. It was a good game, but this is where we were hurt by having only 15 players. Not to menntion Will was running on one good leg. He was hurt in the Fountainbleu game, and only after a Dr. Wisby ice pack, was he able to get the swelling down. It was a fairly even game with neither team getting a lot of quality shots. At the half it was 0-0. With 19 minutes to go, Connor was fouled in the penalty area and received a penalty kick, which he converted. Ten minutes later, Brother Martin was able to score, as they got behind the defense and slotted one in between Austin and the post. Game ended and we headed home.
All in all, it was a good tournament. Great total team effort. With finals next week, the games we have scheduled will be postponed and rescheduled. This will give us time to get healthy. It looks like we will have Sean and Hayden back and Will should be healed. We will finish District and look toward the playoffs. Good Job Gators.

Gators Defeat St. Thomas More 4-1
St. Thomas More came to town looking for a game, they found one. After only a couple of days off from Showcase, the Gators played on some weary legs this afternoon. With the wind in their face Shreve started a little sluggish. STM got the first goal in the 25th minute off of a free kick. 4 minutes later Will Monsour tied it up with a nice shot of his own. At the half it was 1-1. The second half was played with a little more speed and the wind at our backs. 6 minutes into the 2nd half Will took a pass from Chris Hammond and scored his second goal of the day. At the 54th minute Johnny Reisz got a goal on a nice long shot for the far right side. He got an assist from Mat Edwardes who received it from Freshman Kenny Chism. The young Freshman got his 1st varsity assist. One of many to come for him, I'm sure. The second half belonged to the Gators with STM getting very few opportunities. Will closed out the scoring with a 3rd goal and his hat trick, again assisted by Hammond.
Nice game all around considering the team is still recovering from those 5 games over the weekend. Next stop is Covington on the 28th & 29th for the most prestigious tournament in the state. The St. Pauls Holiday Invitational. Good Luck Gators !!!!!!!!!

Latest Poll Results
Week 5 of the Coaches poll have our Gators in the #2 position and the same holds true in the LaPrep opinion poll. Jesuit is # 1 in both polls and rightfully so. In the ESPN FAB 50 National Poll, Jesuit is ranked # 6 and Shreve is # 40. But, that is before the Showcase Tournament. We should move up to the mid 30's or better. Great job Gators !!!

Gators go 5-0 and repeat as Louisiana Showcase Champions.
Game 1 - Shreve defeats St. Martin 3-0 to begin the tournament. St. Martin came into the game as the #1 ranked team in Division 3. The boys had an adequate game, nothing special, but we got the win. The field was wet and slippery which may have had something to do with it. Austin Wisby had his best game so far with 7 saves, 3 of which were true goal stoppers. Neal, Sean & Will M. scored the 3 goals. Will M and Mat Edwardes each had an assist.
Game -2 The Gators started Saturday on a high note, playing much better than the night before. Playing against a top rated Div 2 team, Shreve comes out with a 2-0 win. Neal and Connor traded goals and assist between each other to seal the win. Everyone got a chance to play and gain that experience that will be neccessary at the end of the season.
Game-3 Shreve finished the third and final bracket game with a fairly easy 2-0 win over New Iberia. The defense continued to play very well with their third shutout of the tournament. Connor got both scores with an assist form Neal and the other was a defelction off the post from a Jordan Gray shot. Semi finals against Acadiana.
Game-4 Semifinal. Typically if you score a couple of goals in your 4th game of a tournament and win, your satisfied. But that wasn't the case in this game. Acadiana handed the Gators their only loss during the Dutchtown tournament. Revenge was on their mind. Acadiana talked trash before, during and after the game. All we had to do was say (scoreboard) Shreve trashes Acadian 5-0 and advances to the final. Will Monsour had 3 goals and an assist. Connor scored and Neal scored from Jordan's corner kick.
Game-5 Final. Going into our 5th game in less than 24 hours, the Gators were draggin a little bit. That went away once they saw the quality of the competition, that being the host team, St. Louis Catholic. St. Louis was by far the best team we played in the tournament. In the 15th minute, St. Louis scored on a classic cross and one touch goal. Pretty goal for them, not much we could do. However, 10 minutes later we did the same thing when Neal passed to Connor. Goals scored, game tied. The second half was pretty even and the score remained 1-1. We had one 5 minute Golden Goal overtime period and then pk's to determine the winner. The question was, who was going to get that goal, us or them? Exactly one minute later, questioned answered. Monsour sent a long crossing ball to the far left post, Neal was in perfect position for the trap and one touch into the net from about 5 yards out. Victory is ours. Gators repeat as Showcase Champions.
Summary - After a disapointing Dutchtown Tournament, we needed a good showing in this one. That's just what we got. We did not play a bad game, some better than others, but all were good. The offense did their job and got the goals we needed. Neal and Connor were awesome up top accounting for most of the goals, but that's their job and they did it well. The midfield had a great tournament. Advancing our attack as we transitioned from defense, Sean and Jordan were there usual self, nothing flashy, just getting the job done. Chris Hammond continues to get better and better. He does a great jop in his wing position and is constantly sending balls into the middle giving us opportunites for a goal. Will Monsour was exceptional in these 5 games, he contolled the middle third and helped keep constant pressure on the opposing defense. Working with Neal and Connor he got 3 or 4 goals himself. The bench strength we have this year is some of the best we have had in a couple of years. Mat Edwardes and Johnny Reisz lead this group with Tyler Wagnon, Gabe Gray, Dylan Cassel and Kenny Chisum falling in right behind. When called upon, they all go out and give their best. They all were a big part of this tournament. Who have I left out, oh yeah, the Stonewall Defense. One word - FANTASTIC. Logan Calhoun, Tyler Smith, Christopher Lawrence and Will Terracciano were awesome. 1 goal in 5 games - Wow. Time and time again they turned back the opponet. Rarely did the other team get off a clean shot, but when they did Austin Wisby was there to make the save. Austin is fiquring the keeper position out and is gaining confidence every game. Shreve is now 12-1-1, but we have a lot of work ahead of us in the next 2 weeks. St. Thomas More visits on Tuesday and then off to the biggest tournament of the year at St. Pauls in Covington. Great job to the players and coaches, let's keep it up.

Boys Varsity and JV defeat Byrd
The Varsity came to play tonight against arch rival Byrd. After a few minutes of feeling out the Byrd defense the first score came at the 7 min mark. Will Terracciano sent a 20 yard pass to Chris Hammond who 1 touched it from 2 feet off the ground just under the goal. 2 minutes later, Connor took a short pass from Will M. and sent a hard shot dead center over the Byrd keeper. In less than 10 minutes it's 2-0. Things slowed down a little the rest of the half and ended at 2-0. The second half started strong with Neal Usry taking a long pass from across the field and had a great left foot rocket from 6 yards out. The assist was again from Will M. Mat Edwardes finished off the scoring with a close range shot in the 70th minute. He was assisted by Neal. Over all our effort was good. This could have easily been 6-0 if a few close shots had gone in. One in particular was a missed PK by Logan. Now we know why he plays defense. Good job guys.
The JV had a game that was close in score, but not in play. A reliable source tells me that we were a little sloppy in the first half but maintained a 60/40 possession time. Shreve had a few quality shots but just couldn't score. The second half was more of the same but in bigger doses. Possession went to 80/20 with Byrd not truly crossing mid-field until the last 15 minutes of the half. The Gators finally got a score from Chris Morton off of an Alex McCarny assist to get the win at 1-0. The defense played a solid game limiting Byrd to very few opportunities. Mark got his first start and made the most of it with a solid game. Michael White, Alex and Kenny Chism all three continue to play well and lead the offense. All round good game for everyone.

Shreve Girls getting better with time!
The Gator defense took a beating, but the half-time score against the Lady Jackets was a testament to their determination. Despite predictions that they'd walk all over us, Byrd led by only 1 goal.
The second half saw the Lady Gators run out of steam. In the end, the relentless pounding took its toll, and the Shreve girls lost to Byrd 5-0.
Beth Girard was once again fearless in the goal. The center-mids made a big difference in the game. Kudos to Caitlyn Abney and Caydence for turning up the pressure!
We'll start connecting those passes in the offense soon, then watch out! Good job ladies.

Girls hang tough against Magnet
The final score may have been 6-0, but the girls stepped up their game and gave us a glimpse of their capabilities. For the first time this season, we saw the Lady Gators come together as a team. Kudos to Beth Girard in the goal. She was fearless and made save after save. The defensive line, Emily, Natalie, Hannah, and Lari, started to work as a unit. Keep up the talk and the hustle!
Great effort ladies!

Boys Varsity beat Magnet & J.V. loses a tough one.
A big rivalry game with Magnet. 1st place in District is on the line. The first 20 minutes was pretty even with played being spread all over the field. In the second 20 minutes, Shreve begin to take control. We did not score in the first half, but we were oh, so close. The boys took 12 shots in the last 20 minutes of the half and 3 came from inside 10 yards. Magnet keeper made a good stop on one and we misfired on the other 2. But momentum was going our way. The second half started the same as the first half, but it didn't take 20 minutes to get it in gear. At the 56 min mark, Sean was deep in the Magnet left side and sent a ball toward near post, Connor took it from there and sent it over to far post where Chris Hammond was waiting. With a great chest ball, he sent it into the goal. Magnet seemed to show some spark for about 10 minutes and made some solid runs toward our goal. Most of their shots were from far out and those that did sneak through, were cleared by the defense or saved by Austin. With 5 minutes to go, Will M. took a pass from Connor and sent in a 23 yard shot to secure the game. Overall, we played a good game. Logan and Christopher Lawrence combined for 9 cleared balls, while Tyler S. and Will T. made great runs down the sides and keep the Magnet defense off balance. The mids, Sean, Jordan and Will M. moved the ball well from one end to the other constantly setting up runs for Connor, Neal and Chris. Austin continues to be solid in the goal. Only 4 goals allowed in 8 games. We take on C.E. BYRRRRRRRD on Monday, lets get another one.
Thanks to all of the students who braved the weather- you are appreciated. We hope to see you Monday. 7:45 at Hedges.
The JV had a tough game, not only with temps in the 30's but apparently a blind ref. According to parent reports, both teams played well and hard. It was a clean, hard fought game. Magnet scored at the end of the first half on a volley from the top of the 18. Midway through the second have, Alex McCarney scored off of a Kenny Chism free kick after it bounced off of the goal post. Toward the end of the game a corner kick was taken by Magnet and was knocked away by keeper Zach Kahre. In the process, he was knocked down as the ball was cleared out. After the ball reached midfield, the ref blew his whistle and stopped play. Everyone, including Magnet fans assumed he was calling a foul on the player that knocked Zach down. But what he did was call the corner kick ,a goal. No one can explain why he did that. No one including the Magnet players could figure it out. A minute later he blew his whistle to end the game. WOW !! Magnet "wins" 2-1.

Boys Varsity defeat Loyola / J.V. pull out a tie.
The Varsity went into this game with Loyola looking to avoid a "trap" game before the showdown with Caddo Magnet. Fortunately, they didn't have that problem, 7 minutes into the game Jordan hammers one in from about 20 yards out. ( 1-0 ). 12 minutes later, Connor gets goal # 2 with an assist from Jordan (2-0). First half ends 2-0. At the 52nd minute Loyola scores from way out on what look like a long pass, but with the help of a strong wind, it blew in right under the cross bar. ( 2-1) Shortly after, Neal Usry gets a goal off of a Randel assist and then we closed out the scoring when Connor put a backwards header into the net off of a Chris Hammond throw in. Final score 4-1. The team played pretty well most of the game. Midway throught the second half Loyola picked up some steam and had us on our heals for about 10 minutes. We came out of it and took back control of the game. We had control most of the game and came away with a favorable result. We are doing better but we still need to get rid of the ball quicker in the attacking third. We are allowing the opposing defense to catch up and even the numbers. Once that jells, we will be very dangerous. The defense continued to be solid.
The JV came out a little sluggish this time against Loyola. Coming off a 4 game weekend, may have had them a little leg weary. We did not move the ball quite as well but overall played a decent game. Ten minutes into the game, Loyola scored on a high goal from 20 yards out. It was just over Zach's fingers as he stretched to knock it out. Play just went back and forth for most of the game with each sides defense clearing out each others attack. We scored in the 47th minute off of a Chism corner kick and a McCarney one touch into the goal. A very well executed set play. Overall we moved the ball around pretty well. Kenny, Alex, Michael White. Dylan Cassel and Michael Ritz kept it moving. The defense was led tonight by Chris Schimberg, Cadden Smith and Dillon Gaddie. For the most part they kept Loyola at bay. When they did get through, keeper, Zach Kahre was there for the save.
Overall, good night for the Gators.

Boys J.V. Clean House in Bossier
The Boys JV continued their successful season by winning the Annual Bossier JV Tournament. The swept the competition going 4-0.
Game 1 - Defeated Byrd 2-1 Goals were scored by Richard Gill and Michael White. Game 2 - Defeated Airline 4-0. Goals by Gabe Gray, Michael White, Alex McCarney & Dillan Gaddie. Assist by Gabe, Michael W. Alex Game 3 - Defeated Loyola - 3-0. Goals by Michael Ritz, Michael W. and Gabe. Assist came from McCarney, Game 4 - Defeated Ruston 1-0. Even though the Gators won, it was very frustrating. We had numerous shots on goal and just couldn't get them in the net. Alex finally got one in after and assist from White and Ritz. On the other hand the defense played well keeping the Ruston penetration down to a minumum. Very few shots made it to our goal.
Great job guys. Two tournaments - 1 second place and 1 - Championship - Not bad at all.
Thanks to the parents who contributed their notes.

Shreve's Gator Cup Re-Cap
The Gator Girls faced Loyola on Friday evening in their first game of the Gator Cup. Loyola scored first, but we answered them with a goal of our own. Scoring off a cross from Caydence Leber to Hilary Prevot and Caitlin Fitzgerald, I'm not sure who's boot actually put it in the goal, but it was great to see them all there on top for the first goal of the season. The score stayed tied for the best part of the game. In the final minutes, Loyola scored twice. The final score was 3-1 Loyola.
The girls played DeRidder on Saturday morning. They worked hard, but came up short. DeRidder wins 2-0.

Boys Varsity and JV defeat Airline
The Varsity was expected to dominate this game and they did, by defeating Airline 6-0. Everyone on the team got to play at least an entire half, many played positions they wouldn't normally play. Everyone got in some good practice last night. Scoring came often in the first half with 3 goals in the first 10 minutes. I'm not going to described them all, but I have to mention the bomb that Austin Wisby put in from about 45 yards out. It looked like a missle and I'm not sure the Airline keeper ever saw it. Goals were scored by Gabe Gray (2), Jordan Gray (1) Christopher Lawrence (1) Will Monsour (1) and Austin Wisby (1). Assist were by Mat Ewardes (1), Jordan Gray (2) Connor Randel (1) and Tyler Wagnon (1).
The Junior Varsity expected a tough game against Airline and that's what they got. Play in general was pretty even, going back and forth, but Shreve was able to get a few more penetrations into the Airline defense. Kenny Chism did a good job distributing the ball from midfield, while Richard Gil, Michael White and Alex McCarney made some good runs and quality shots. As a result, about 10 minutes into the game Alex scored a goal and put the young Gators up 1-0. Throughout the game, Airlines keeper made some nice saves on what looked to be sure goals. The defense played well, allowing keeper Zach Kahre to touch only a couple of balls. Shreve scored a nice goal in the 42nd minute. Kenny sent a corner kick into the goal area and Michael Ritz put a nice one touch past the keeper. Shreve prevails 2-0. Nice job guys.

Girls lose to Airline 2-0
The girls started strong. They possessed the ball and made some good passing combinations. Airline scored late in the first half on a passing combination that bounced off the heels of one of our defenders. Airline's second goal came off a corner in the second half.
The Lady Gators need to clear that ball out of the defense and find someone up-top who can put the ball in the back of the net! Coach knows that and appears to be moving the girls around to find the right combination. She just didn't find it last night!
On to the Gator Cup this weekend. Volunteers are still needed so please email me at gatorsoccer@bellsouth.net if you can help. See you there!

Latest Boys State Ranking
I'm not sure how you can go 1-1-1 in a tournament and rise from # 6 to # 2 on the LaPrep poll. Some voters must now know what we already knew, the potential of this team is amazing. We just have to show it on the field.
Jesuit # 1 Shreve # 2 St. Pauls # 3 Dutchtown # 4 Lafayette # 5
The coaches poll dropped us from #2 to #3. They voted St. Pauls # 2. Still showing us respect even after this weekend.

Dutchtown Tournament Updates
Friday started slow but finished strong. Here is the abbreviated version.
Game 1 vs Acadiana. Played this game very sluggish. Ball movement was not as crisp as it has been. not alot of enthusiasm for this one. The Rams slip one in with 2 minutes to go and we lose 1-0.
Game 2 vs Menard. Much, much better game. We came to play and to make up for our first game. 20 minutes into the 1st have we took a 3-0 lead. Made it 4 by half time. Matt cleared the bench and everyone got to play and we also scored an addl goal. Menard got a goal on a long kick that floated into the net. Caught most everyone off guard. It just floated over Austins fingertips. Stats -15 shots taken - Connor socores 4 and Will M. gets 1. Will also had 3 assist. Johnny Reisz and Jordan Gray got 1 assist each. Austin had 3 saves. We win in the morning, and we advance to semis.
Game 3. vs Dutchtown. Tied 1-1. Disapointing to say the least. Not only did we tie the game, we lost Hayden for a couple of weeks, with a broken arm. We did not jell as a team. When we play together, we play very well and hard to beat. We out possessed every team we play, but we are quickly learning goals win games, not an over abundance of possession time. Our goal is worth mentioning as it came from a defensive player. Tyler Smith. He bombed one in from about 40 yards into the upper right corner. It was a beautiful thing. This teams needs to find it's identity and when they do, they will be awesome. This one is behind us, onto Monday night to open district against Airline.

Boys defeat Vanderbilt 2-0
What a test for the Gators tonight, I give them an A+. The first half was fairly even with the Gators spending a little more time in their offensive end of the field. It was primarily a defensive 1st half. We had good ball movement but just could not capitalize on any opportunities. The best shot of the game came in the 35th minute and it was from a Vanderbilt player. It just so happens the best save of the game came at the same time from Austin Wisby. Vandy took a shot from about 18 yards and it was headed inside the left post. Austin got a hand on it, and sent it away from the goal. The half ended at 0-0. The second half was outstanding. Shreve came to play and did not let up for 40 minutes. The Vandy keeper had his hands full as we sent 14 shots at him. If you keep shooting, eventually they will starting hitting the net. At the 20 minute mark, Jordan sent a ball up the middle to Will M. who then passed it on to Connor who got around the keeper for an easy tap in. With 5 minutes to go Connor took a ball that came from the defense ( sorry I don't know who sent it ) and made a sweet pass to Neal, who put it in for the insurance goal. Everyone that played, played very well. I have to give kudo's to the Juniors whom as a whole did not play a lot last year. They came up huge tonight. Will Terracciano, Christopher Lawrence, Hayden Price and Chris Hammond are getting the job done. They will be a big reason for our success this year. Logan is doing a great job at anchoring the middle of the defense and Tyler Smith is taking care of business on the left side. With an occasional run down the sidelines, Tyler will be dangerous this year. The mids did a good job being patient and not forcing the ball, They contolled the tempo and made solid passes to our forwards. Will, Jordan and Sean, are as good as it gets in the midfield. The tandem of Connor and Neal were solid. Get use to hearing that - Connor and Neal - they are the real deal. In my 4 years with Shreve soccer, I have not seen a team move the ball as well as we do or play defense the way we do. This is a complete team and we control our own destiny. Congrats to all of the players and coaches. Now on to Baton Rouge. GOOOOOOOO Gators

J.V. Boys take 2nd Place in Southwood Tournament
Congratulations to the J.V. Boys for a successful 1st tournament. Second Place, not bad, not bad at all.
Game 1 Defeated Byrd 3-0. Goal by Kenny Chism & Michael White. 1 Byrd Own Goal
Game 2 Tied Parkway 1-1 Tough game, several yellow cards and one red.
Game 3 Lost to Magnet 2-1 Michael Ritz got the goal from an Alex McCarney assist. Dylan Cassel has a huge block on a PK, to keep Magnet at 2 goals.
Game 4 Defeated Airline 3-2 Best played game of the tournament. Airline led by two goals most of the way, but the Gators come back to win 3-2. Michael White had 2 goals and Colin O'Quinn had one. Kenny Chism got an assist. The offense came together after halftime and worked very well together. The defense had a great game, shutting down Airline in the second half allowing Shreve to take the lead and keep it.
Thanks to the several parents that contributed to the above. If any corrections need to be made, let me know.
Great Job Guys !!!!!!!!!

Gator Cup Volunteers still needed!
Captain Shreve Girls’ Soccer Program is still in need of volunteers to work shifts at the Gator Cup on December 3, 4, and 5. We need to cover the Ticket Gate, Concessions and T Shirt sales during the entire course of the event. A schedule of the shifts is provided below. Each parent should plan to work at least one shift at Gator Cup. We need over 50 shifts covered. Please send an email to gatorsoccer@bellsouth.net with the shift (or shifts) that you would like to work and your preferred area. Please do your part. The Gator Cup is our only fundraiser and allows us to keep the soccer fees as low as possible, so the financial success of the Gator Cup is very important to the Captain Shreve Girls’ Soccer Program. Thanks for your help with the Gator Cup!
Please note the number of volunteers needed inside the parenthesis.

Both Boys teams win opening games tonight.
The Varsity game out on the attack tonight and kept it up most of the night and defeated Loyola 2-0. Their ball movement was the best I've seen in a couple of years. We had numerous shots on goal but you have to give the Loyola keeper credit, he made some tremendous saves. This easily could have been a 6-0 game. Of course, if field goals were allowed, it was 26-0, as we sent 8 thru the football uprights. The defense played particulary well especially considering they were running an unfamiliar flatback 4 system. Logan Calhoun, Tyler Smith, Christopher Lawrence and Will Terracciano, worked together very well from the very beginning. Having those four in the back allows Will Monsour to move to midfield where he is such an asset. Working with returning Seniors, Jordan Gray, Sean McCullough and Juniors, Hayde Price, Chris Hammond, our midfield is solid. Being a new keeper, I'm sure Austin Wisby feels good having this defense in front of him.. Austin was not tested very much, he had two shots against him and handled them easily. Austin gets his 1st shutout and begins his assualt on Matt Greens record. The scoring kicked off on a Will Monsour. PK in the first half and a late goal in the second half by Freshman Neal Usry. Neal was fed the ball by Connor Randel in a 3 on 1 breakaway. Chris Hammond was the 3rd and was at hand should Neal have missed. You can tell Connor and Neal will be a duo to reckon with. We had a very positive start and it looks good for 2009/10.
Congrats to the JV team as they also defeated Loyola. THeir score was 1-0. Alex McCarney got the lone goal on a Loyola keeper bobble. Kenny Chism made a fake attempt at the score which allowed Alex to get the touch and the goal. I got to see the second half, and I was impressed with the team. This may be the best JV team we have had in a while. The JV also moved the ball pretty well and also played solid defense. As they learn each other a little better during the season, I can see them being one of the better JV teams in Caddo/Bossier. Great start, keep it up guys.

Boys Fall to Jesuit in Finals
What a great game and what a great atmosphere. Pep Rally, Tail Gateing and great fan support, but it wasn't enough to defeat the Jesuit Blue Jays. The Gators fought with all their heart for 80 minutes, but in the end, came out on the short end of a 3-1 score. The boys knew they could win this game all week long and it looked like we just might do that early in the game. At about the 10 minute mark, Brennan got a pass off to Will and after a couple of touches, Will scores from the right side. The Gators were pumped and playing well. Jesuit tied the game with about 7 minutes to go in the 1st half with a nice double header off of a corner kick. The second half started with much of the same intensity as the 1st half. About 20 minutes into the half Jesuit scored on a nice pass and run. Then again 10 minutes later, they put the nail in the coffin with goal # 3. But even with that, the Gators never quit. The one thing I hoped for, was if we lost, there would be no excuses. I wanted the boys to play their best game. I believe that's what they did. Jesuit was the better team in this game, but at another time, we can beat them. In the paper today, one of the Jesuit players called the Gators their toughest competition all year, "by far". Of our 3 losses, 2 came from the State Champions. In the box below, the question is asked, how does this team compare? That easy, all future teams will be compare to the 2008/2009 Gators. This is the best team in Captain Shreve history. What a great group of Seniors we had this year, led by Captains Jeff Putnam and Kevin Rakel. Brennan Randel, Matt Green, Chris Rakel, and Sam Fell were all tremendous in their efforts this year. Their contribution to the soccer program over the last 3-4 years has been outstanding. They will be sorely missed next year. Seniors, your coaches, parents and school are so proud of you and your leadership. We all wish you the best where your future takes you. Next year, can we make it back? You bet we can. We have a great Junior class coming up and a very talented Sophomore group. Juniors, led by returning Captain Logan Calhoun, along with Will Monsour & Jordan Gray, this team will get off to a solid start. With Tyler Smith,, Sean McCullough, Jonathan Reisz, Austin Wisby and Tyler Wagnon, look for this team to make another run for the State Championship. The Sophomores will be a tremendous asset as they look to help fill the 5 starting spots that are lost after this season. The Sophomores will be led by Connor Randel and Christopher Lawrence. What a great year these two had. Connor is one of the best in the State now and Christopher had a tremendous playoff run. From your parents, we are all so proud of each and everyone of you, thanks for allowing us to take the ride with you. What a great season !!!!!!!!!!!!

Once again, congratulations to our Gators. Job well done !!!!!!

WE'RE GOING TO THE "SHIP"
The State Championship, that is. What a great effort by our Gators as they defeated St. Pauls 4-1. After the start we had last week, I was scared the entire game. After the start we had this week, I was never concerned, not even down 1-0 at the half. Because, their goal was a flukie deal, and we were making quality possession plays and had quality opportunities. In the 54th minute, what I have to consider the most amazing goal I have seen in a long time was Brennan just being a beast inside 8 yards. He controlled the ball for at least 10 seconds against 4 defenders. Got knocked down, got up and still put a shot in the back of the net. That was the inspiration the Gators needed. After that, St. Pauls didn't have a chance. Coach Matt made the decision to swap Will and Kevin and this turned the game around. I beleive Kevin is a natural sweeper and Will is a natural mid, they both were amazing tonight. In the 59th minute, Will sent a ball from the left side, that was deflected by a defender, to the center at about 25 yards out, Jordan made a couple of touches and sent one into the upper right 90. Score 2-1. In the 66th minute, Will set a pass up to Brennan for his 2nd goal. Three minutes later, Will and Brennan hooked up again for the goal and a comfortable 4-1 lead. I felt comfortable at 2-1 because of the way the defense was playing. Logan had one of his best games of the year, helping shut down the St. Pauls left side attack and also had several ball clearing kicks, to keep the ball away from the goal. Kevin did as expected and was steller with his play. Christopher Lawrence and Tyler Smith shared duties on the left side. Sophomore, Christopher, showed there are great things ahead for him. He had a really good game tonight. The midfield did a much better job of moving the ball and winning some 50/50's they had lost in previous games. Sam, Jordan Jeff, Chris R. & Sean moved they ball around very well setting up some good chances. Matt Green was steady in the goal catching every shot St. Pauls sent his way. He came off the line several times and had some very timely "punch aways". This was our best game since that 9 day run back in December. If we come out and play the same next week, we have a chance. Jesuit is very solid and on paper are the best team in the state. But we don't play on paper, we play at Indy. That's our home, that's our destiny. Afterall, I never saw a Gator lose a fight to a BlueJay. GOOOOOOOO GATORS !!!!!!!!!

Boys Advance to State Semi Finals
The Gators got all they wanted and then some, from Brother Martin, but in the end, found a way to pull it out. The bad news is this was not our best effort of the season. The good news is, this was not our best effort of the season, and we still won. We have seen much better from this team and I believe we will see it again in the next two games. The first half started with a scare has Brother Martin missed a prime opportunity in the first 30 seconds. For the rest of the half, it was just a game of who was going to miss the most chances. The first half ends 0-0. Of course we all know how well Shreve plays in the second half so we were all confident. Didn't happen. Brother Martin came out strong and put pressure on us for 30 minutes. But, finally things started to click and Brennan got a ball over to Connor at about the 20 and after a couple of moves Connor put in a left footed goal from about 15 yards out. At this point the Gators stiffened and did not allow the Crusaders to score. Overall, not our best game but it was a good effort. Champions, never quit. Good Job, Keep it up and WHO'S NEXT.

Boys Advance to Quarterfinal Round
The Gators bounced back from the sluggish first round game with a 7-2 win over Ruston. Shreve maintained control for most of the game. The defense wasn't quite as stellar as they usually are. We let up a couple of times when Ruston was in front of our goal and allowed them to score one gaol in each half. On the positive side, the offense played well. We moved the ball around with good passes and put our guys in position to score. It all started in the 9th minute as Brennan took a hard shot from the left side, the keeper could not hold on and Chris Rakel put the rebound in for the 1-0 lead. Ruston scored in the 14th minute, but 1 minute later, Connor and Brennan hooked for the second goal. Connor with the assist and Brennan with the goal. The third goal was another Brennan shot from 20 yards out off of a Kevin Rakel assist. Brennan got his "hat trick" on a nice dribble and shot. 1st half ended 4-1. Early in the second half Will Monsour and Sean McCullough hooked for a nice goal. Will with the assist and Sean scoring. Chris Rakel got in on the act again, this time sending a ball to Brennan for his 4th goal. Finally Jordan Gray was able to score from an assist from Sam Fell. The offense needed this effort tonight, everythiong from here on out will be tough games. Good news is, as long as we are playing, we will be at home. Next up is Brother Martin. Should be on Monday. Once that's finalized, I'll post the information. Great Job Gators, keep it up.

Regional Second Round set for Ruston
The second round game is set for Thursday Feb 12th in Ruston. Game time 6:00.
Friday, February 6
It was ugly, but it was a win.
The Gators may have underestimated South Lafourche today, but they got lucky and won the game anyway. There really were no highlights other than Brennan getting a goal in the 38th minute. S.L. packed the box with what sometimes seemed like 14 players. They never blocked our shots, they just got in the way. When we passed the ball and moved it around, we did ok, we got in trouble trying to dribble through all of their players. We were fortunate to advance. We will travel to Ruston next week. You can be sure they will try the same thing. Hopefully we will be prepared for that scenario. I'll post the date and time once it's finalized,
Let's go Gators, now is not the time to relax. Put it in overdrive from here on out.

Boys finish strong at end of regular season !!
With all regular season games complete the Gators finished in a great position to make a run at the State Title. Based on strength of schedule, Shreve finished in 1st. Shreve - 19.16, Jesuit- 18.59, Dutchtown - 16.88, Caddo Magnet- 16.76 & Catholic - 16.25.
In the State Rankings - 1st Jesuit, 2nd - Shreve, 3rd - Lafayette, 4th - Catholic, 5th - Caddo Magnet.
The playoff brakets will be out tomorrow and I'm sure Galen will be in the know and post it as soon as it's available. Shreve should come out as the overall # 2 seed with Jesuit being # 1. If the boys continue to take care of business and play the way they are capable, they will be in the finals on February 28th. Guys, let's don't have another Woodlawn. Take care of business, like you know how to do. Go Gators !!!!!!!!!!!
Monday, January 26
DISTRICT CHAMPIONS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whether the Gators are 9-1 or 10-0, they are undisputed Division 1, District 1 Champions. The out come of the Byrd forfeit decision will determine our final District record. By taking down Caddo Magnet for the 2nd time this season, IT DON"T MATTER, the Boys are Champs. Magnet has 3 losses in the last 40 + games and Shreve gave them two of them, although, tonight didn't start off that great. In the 7th minute Magnet crossed the ball to a wide open player and he scored from 8 yards out. We weren't exactly playing our best at this point, or for the next 20 minutes. In the last 10 minutes of the 1st half, it got better. Will M. and Kevin switched spots and it was like magic. Kevin was his usual self at sweeper and Will help the midfield increase the pressure. That paid off in the 32nd minute when Jordan sent a long cross to the left far post and Brennan collected it for the score. 7 minutes later Chris Rakel sent a pass to Brennan for the 2nd goal and a 2-0 halftime lead. The second half was evenly played for a while but you could tell the Gators begin to take over the game. The midfield continued to press and the defense continued to shut down the Mustangs. In the 50th minute Sam sent a long cross from the left to the right and Brennan got it. He made a rocket shot from 25 yards out. The Magnet keeper made a great effort but missed the ball. The ball hit the cross bar and then bounced off the keepers back and dribble into the goal, before anyone could get to it. We had some very close balls on our end but Matt came up big several times and the defense decided they were not going to let Caddo score. End result 3-1 Gators and may I say one more time - DISTRICT CHAMPIONS. You can't say enough about these guys - 10 District Games and 2 goals scored. Matt, Logan, Will and Tyler have been magnificant. Jeff, Sam, Jordan, Chris L., Sean & Kevin have been steady at the various mids and the best tandem in Louisiana soccer, Brennan and Connor have been awesome. But without support from the rest of the players, this couldn't happen. Mat, Austin, Hayden, Will T. Chris R. Chris H., Tyler W. & Johnny, do what's asked of them when they are on the field. Congratulations guys, your Coaches and Parents are very proud of you.
Wear your yellow uniforms to practice on Tuesday for team pictures.

Congratulations to our guys!!
The girls are proud to congratulate the boys on their District Championship. Tonight's game proves that you are the best. We will be supporting you all the way to finals!
The girls ended district play with a 4-0 loss to Magnet. Despite the loss, it was nice to see the progress the team has made since that first game. Thanks for a great season Ladies!

Girls Beat Southwood 2-0
Both goals came in the first half. The first was from Ashleigh Fitzgerald, who stepped the ball between two defenders and around a third to pass the ball into the net. The second was on a nice bit of teamwork from Caitlyn Abney and Hilary Prevot. Caitlyn slide the ball out right to Hilary who placed it right back at her feet for the goal. The second half was scoreless. The girls did a much better job at making runs, connecting passes, and taking shots than in past games. Good job, girls!

Gators defeat Cowboys 5-0
The Gators took another bite out of the Southwoood Cowboys with a 5-0 win. Scoring quickly and often in the shortened 1st half, Shreve took a 4-0 half time lead. In the 2nd half a lot of positions were switched around and ball control was the name of the game. We scored 1 goal for the 5-0 victory. The dynamic duo of Green & Wisby combined in the goal for another shutout. Goals - Brennan - 1, Connor - 3, Jordan - 1 Assist - Connor - 1, Brennan - 1, Christopher L. -1, Sean - 1, Kevin- 1, & Will T. - 1.
District Championship is on the line Monday night against Magnet. Let's have another great turnout.

Boys Lose a Heartbreaker to Byrd
It had to come to an end sometime, better now than the playoffs. The Gators undefeated District streak ended tonight with a 1-0 loss to the Yellow Jackets. This was Byrd's biggest game of the year and they were out to avenge their early season loss to Shreve. Byrd outplayed the Gators in the first half. Not that Shreve played bad, Byrd was just more intense and aggressive toward the ball. That proved to come to light on a defensive misque and a Byrd attacker was in a full sprint and intercepted a drop pass to score the lone goal of the game. Byrd went into a defensive game, and that's when Shreve kicked it into gear. The last 25 minutes the Boys pressed the attack and had Byrd on their heels. We made many shots on goal, several of which just missed. We had 3-4 shots inside 5 yards and that may have been to close. There was not much room for the guys to get the shot off at any angle.. I must admit, the Byrd keeper played a fantastic game, and came up big on several of our shots. I learned a long time ago, it's not about the failure, it's how you react to failure. We have 3 District games left and we still control our own destiny. Put this one behind you boys, there are great things ahead.

Girls: Huntington Forfeits and Bryd Wins
Huntington was a no-show at the game on Saturday. The girls will record an official 1-0 victory.
Monday's game at Independence saw a 6-0 Byrd victory. The girls worked as a team and fought hard to keep the Jackets out of the goal, but had no shots on goal themselves. This team needs to work on connecting passes, making runs on offense, and getting some shots on goal! Remember ladies, you can't score if you don't shoot!

Boys JV Win Parkway Tournament
On a cold Friday night the boys JV came out hot by defeating Airline 5-0. Saturday morning was a bit of a downer as they lost to Bossier 3-0. Things got better in the afternoon with a 4-1 win over Parkway. This win put them in the semi-final against Byrd. In a classic game both teams battled to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation. In the 10 minute overtime, neither team could find the back of the net, so they remained at 1-1. In the PK shootout, no one came up bigger than Zach Kahre as he put down 3 of the Yellow Jacket shots. Shreve was able to put 3 in the goal for a 3-1 advantage. Shreve then went on to play in a rematch against Bosser in the final. Play went back and forth for most of the 1st half with Bossier having a little more possession time, but in the last minute of the half Hayden Price scored off of an assist from Chris Rakel. The 2nd half was a defensive game played fairly even, but Bossier was able to get a score with about 10 minutes left. This game ended regulation tied 1-1. Shreve moved the ball around quite nicely in the overtime period and with 30 seconds to go Chris was wiped out in the box right in front of the goal. Zach came up the field to take the potential game winning shot. He made a good shot but it was blocked by Bossiers keeper. Fortunately, he was flagged for leaving his line to early and we got a second chance. This time Chris Rakel took the shot and made it happen. The Shreve JV are now Tournament Champions. Zach Kahre is named Tournament MVP.
Great job guys !!! This was the first JV game I have been able to watch and it was a lot of fun. All of you did very well.

Girls lose to Airline 4-3 in overtime
The girls had a great start. The opening play resulted in a goal from Ashleigh Fitzgerald on a cross from Caydence Leber. A few minutes later, Caydence had a beautiful shot from the left side that curved right into the corner of the goal. The third goal came toward the end of the half on a pass from Caitlin Fitzgerald to her sister, Ashleigh, who placed the ball on the head of Caydence for a great header into the net.
Then the second half began. The wind picked up and so did the Airline offense. The half was all about them as they put three goals past the defense. The end of the second half saw a tie at 3-3. Airline kept possession throughout most of of the game and overtime was no exception. They scored at the start of the second overtime. The Lady Gators tried to even it up but were unable to score. Our girls worked hard and should be proud of themselves. Airline wins 4-3.

Boys notch 20th win
The Boys came out smokin tonight against the Airline Vikings. In the 4th minute Kevin has a nice assist to Brennan to get things going. In the 7th minute Brennan assist Connor and then again soon after the dual Athletes of the Week put it together for their second combo of the night. The scoring continued until the final score was 7-0. The shutout streak remained in tack, but not without a couple of anxious moments. The defense and Matt came through to keep it alive. Big test comes on Monday, as we take on Byrd. The Yellow Jackets will be out to get even with us for their early season loss. We will need to be at our best. Keep it up Gators.
Goals - Brennan - 2, Connor-2, Sean-1, Mat - 1, Will T. - 1
Assist - Kevin - 2, Brennan - 2, Connor - 1 Sam - 2, Sean - 1

Boys Shutout Southwood 6-0
The boys recorded their 13th shutout of the season with Matt and Austin combining time in the goal. Austin started the scoring with a strong 1 touch shot from far left side. He was assisted by Sean. The first half ended 1-0. The second have had 5 goals scored from 5 different players. Goals were by Brennan, Will M., Chris H., Will T., and Logan. The assist on all of the goals came from Sean -2, Kevin - 2 & Connor -2. Southwood was a little better than Huntington, but overall this was another practice session. Good Job guys. Airline is tomorrow at Tinsley at 6:00. It's supposed to very cold so be prepared.

Girls Defeat Southwood 1-0
There wasn't much organization or team work, but the girls did manage a win over Southwood with a goal from Hilary Prevot. The girls need to pull it back together before their game against Airline on Thursday.
Monday, January 12
Girls Defeat Huntington 10-0
All the girls got some play time. Ellen got a chance to come out of the goal and score a couple of goals (one with an assist from a Huntington player) for a change! And for those of us in the stands, we had a chance to enjoy the humor of one Huntington fan. He may not know much about soccer, but he definitely supports his team.
Goals - Caityn Abney-1, Caydence Leber-2, Hilary Prevot-1, Lauren Barnett-1, Abbie Martin-1, Ellen Lockhart-2, Shelly Gonsoulin-1, Laken Matthews-1
Assist - Caityn Abney-1, Hilary Prevot-1., and one I missed! Who assisted on Laken's goal? As with the boys game, most goals were without assist.
Monday, January 12
Boys Defeat Huntington 7 - 0
This game was not much more than an easy practice. Huntington tries hard but they don't have much in the way of soccer players. But I give them credit, they play as best they can with what they have. Mat got the first of his 3 goals in the 1st 20 seconds and that's pretty much how the game went. With the exception of Sam, none of the Seniors played, all of the Sophomores played and the Juniors filled the gaps. Final score 7-0.
Goals - Mat Edwardes - 3, Connor - 1, Austin - 1, Sean-1, Logan - 1
Assist - Connor - 1 Chris H - 2, Sam - 1 ( if I missed some, please let me know ) Most goals were without assist.

Lady Gators Make a Mark on Magnet
This mornings game against Caddo Magnet provided an element of surprise when the Lady Gators scored on a break away! The end of the first half was just in sight, the Lady Mustangs had scored their third goal, and things were looking a bit hopeless. Caydence Leber broke away from her position on defense and moved the ball down the left side. Out sprinting Caddo's defense, she passed the ball into Hilary Prevot. Hilary and the goalie both scrambled for control as Ashleigh Fitzgerald followed through and scored the goal. Caddo doesn't allow many goals, so it felt really good to be one of the few teams to score on them. Final score 6-1 Magnet.

Gators 3 Caddo Magnet 0
What a great atmosphere for high school soccer tonight. A crowd of 700 + saw the Gators defeat Magnet 3-0. The first 10 minutes was made up of mostly Magnet controling the ball in our defensive end of the field. We would get a couple of opportunites but got turned away. In the 13th minute, Connor got loose on the left side of the Magnet penalty area, as as he got close to the goal he took a shot that came off the keeper, Jeff Putnam came straight up the middle to put a 5 yard shot into the net for a 1-0 lead. Play went back and forth the next few minutes. In the 17th minute, Magnet got what look like a sure goal, but Matt Green made an absolutely awesome save at the bottom right front post. One minute later Connor made a nice pass to Brennan who had 1 v 1 with the keeper. We all know who won that matchup, Shreve goes up 2-0. Much of the rest of the first half played out like the first 10 minutes, with Magnet controlling the ball, but the Shreve defense kept turning him away. At the half, it's 2-0 Gators. The second half started again with Magnet controlling possession for most of the next 40 minutes. Problem is they got only one or two shots off inside our 18. Most of there were shots were long range, that went high or wide, those that didn't were stopped by Matt. As time wound down, Connor and Jordan put the icing on the cake with Jordan getting the assist. Connor scores in the 75th minute. The only question now, is can we get the shut out? The defense was not to be denied, they turned away every Magent shot and finshed off with a 3-0 win. The defense was fantastic tonight. Logan, Will and Tyler each had a great game. They had much help from the midfield particulary Kevin, Jeff & Sam. Jordan and Sean patrolled the sides waiting on their opportunites to get a ball and start the transition to attack. As usual, the Randels did their thing and kept up the attack. Once they got behind or even with the Magnet defense, they were off to the races. Christopher Lawrence, Jonathan Reisz and Mat Edwardes came in and mixed it up pretty good, giving a break to some of the starters. Overall, this was not our best game, we have seen better, but what counts is they boys played with a lot of heart and pride. They put it all out there until the end, and they were rewarded for their effort. The job is not finished, there is much ahead of us. Celebrate this great win and let's get back to work on Monday.
Great job Gators !!!!!!!!!!!

# 2 Gators Blank the Panthers
The # 2 ranked Gators overcame a sluggish start to defeat the Parkway Panthers 7-0. It took the Gators 27 minutes to get their first goal, but once they found that rhythm, the onslaught began. The team played well once the effects of the week long lay off wore off. It’s hard to come off the stretch this team has been through and turn it on right from the start. Once they shook off a little rust, they took the game over and ran away with it. Everyone saw a lot of playing time and that’s what this team needs. The more experience we can get, the better off we will be when the playoffs begin.
Goals - Brennan – 2 Will M.. -2 Connor – 1, Hayden – 1, Tyler W. – 1
Assist - Connor – 2 , Brennan – 2, Will M. -1, Jeff – 1, Chris H. -1
Monday, December 29
Gators Ranked # 2
In week 6, The Gators are ranked #2 behind Jesuit. This is the reason Coach Smith plays the tournaments we do. Tough competition brings out the best in this team. It is paying great dividends thus far.
Mid Season Stats -

Assist - Jordan - 8, Brennan - 7, Connor- 5, Will M.-5, Christopher L.- 4, Sam - 3, Sean - 2, Mat - 2, Kevin, Jeff, Tyler S. Will T. & Austin, - 1 each

Boys have accomplished a lot in 8 days
These last 8 days have been an amazing experience watching these young men come together as a team. The big question was - "could they come together as a team and rid themselves of the attitude that keeps slowing them down." I can tell you, the answer is yes. They are home today, battered and bruised, but what a ride. 8-1-0 in the two toughest tournaments in the state. They played 6 top 5 teams - Tuerlings, Clinton, Lafayette, Vanderbilt, Fountainbleu & Jesuit. They beat 5 of them. This team became the #3 team in the state as a result of the St. Louis Tournament. Could they maintain that status after St. Pauls? They will certainly maintain , and I won't be surprised if they go to #2. ( We will know by tomorrow)
What can you say about the best 1-2 punch in the State. It's just a fact, Brennan and Connor can do it all and they put together runs that not many teams can stop. The midfield of Sam, Jeff, Jordan, Kevin & Sean, continually make the transition from defense to the attack. They are tiresome in getting the ball up top. Brennan and Connor may get most of the goals, but they couldn't do it without our mids. The defense has been fabulous. In this 9 game stretch they have recorded 6 shutouts and allowed 4 goals. They are on pace to set a Shreve record for shutouts. Tyler, Will M. and Logan and been a wall for Matt. When a shot did get through, Matt was always there to get it. The bench has been a huge key to the success so far. Doing a tremendous job is Christopher Lawrence in the midfield. Hayden Price and Mat Edwardes have seen a lot of time and have done very well, also at the mid position. Will Terraciano and Johnny Reisz have been valuable coming in on defense and Johnny sometimes in the midfield. Austin Wisby has been playing well at the right mid position sending in nice crosses to the forwards, Tyler Wagnon and Chris Hammond have seen some action in the midfield and are doing their part as well.
This team is headed full steam ahead in the right direction. If they can keep it together and I believe they will, there is a State Championship Game looming on the horizon. They should settle for nothing less. THEY CAN BEAT ANY TEAM IN THE STATE.
Great Job Gators, We are very proud of you.

Boys lose in Semi Final at St. Pauls
The Gators finished a brutal 9 game / 8 day stretch with a heartbreaking penalty kick loss to the # 1 ranked team in the State, Jesuit. Jesuit went on to beat Magnet for the tournament title.
Bracket game #3 was against Vanderbilt. It was a battle back and forth the entire game. The defense played great and the mid field and forwards never gave up. Finally, in the 52nd minute, Brennan put a corner kick 6 feet off the ground right in front of the net, Connor got his head on it and drove it past the keeper for the games only score. Shreve wins 1-0.
Semi Final. After surviving the hardest bracket in the tournament, Shreve has the task of facing soccer power Jesuit. We had 17 on the bench, they had 32 ( not kidding). Jesuit scored in the 1st 3 minutes on a fluke chip over the defense and keeper. Not to be deterred, the Gators kept attacking. In the 13th minute, Connor was taken down in the box while on a breakaway. Brennan scored the goal on the PK. The next 67 minutes was a war. It was very physical and Shreve gave back everything they received. In the end it went to penalty kicks and the exhausted Gators came up a little short.
Congrats to the Gators, take a well deserved rest.

Boys begin St. Pauls 2-0
It wasn't the prettiest day of the year and also not our prettiest soccer of the year, but a win is a win. The Gators begin the St. Pauls Invitational at 2-0 after defeating Fountainbleu 2-0 in the 1st game and Baton Rouge 1-0 in the 2nd. In the 1st game it took 66 minutes to put one in the net and Brennan did so on a spectacular shot. From 40 yards out near the left sideline he put a rocket into the upper right far corner of the goal. No one laid a hand on it. 3 minutes later Conner gets the ball all alone in the right hand side of the box and which a few moves gets past the keeper for goal #2. Against Baton Rouge we scored in the 43rd minute when Sam sent a ball to Connor at the left side of the net on the goal line and dropped it to Brennan at 8 yards out. A nice one touch gave us our only goal. It wasn't the best display but the boys found a way to win. A win tomorrow against Vanderbilt puts us in the semi finals. That will be a tough final 4. Good luck boys.

Boys ranked # 3 in the State
The new rankings have just come out and after the Showcase win, the Boys are now # 3 in the State Rankings and # 1 in the Power Ratings. Basically that means, they have played the toughest schedule thus far in the season. Keep it up boys, great things are ahead.

Boys win Louisiana Showcase 5-0-0
After the strong effort against Clinton, the Gators could not find their game against St. Martin. The 1st half ended 0-0. After an "inspiring" halftime speech by Coach Smith, the team came out strong. Two minutes into the second half, Will Terracciano assisted on a goal scored by Brennan. Jeff Putnam scored later off of an assist by Conner. St. Martin got one goal late to end the game at 2-1. The boys seemed to play down to the competition this game, however they finish the # 1 seed and advance to semis against University.
Semi-Final. The boys found their game again and out played University most of the game. With 2 quick goals by Brennan in the 6th and 9th minute, University was on their heels most of the game. Will M. and Connor assisted Brennan on his goals. In the 53rd minute Gabe Gray put in his first varsity goal on an assist by Mat Edwardes. The entire team played very well in this game which allowed most of the starters to get plenty of rest going into the final against Lafayette.
Final - According to the Tournament Director, this is the matchup they hoped to see. Both teams were in their 4th game of the day, but you not could tell by the way the Gators played. They capped off a great weekend with a 2-0 victory over annual state power Lafayette and the Showcase Championship. Connor score a goal in each half, off of an assist by Jeff and Jordan. It would be too difficult to point out individual play for this tournament. Except for one bad game, the offense was incredible and very fast, the midfield move the ball like we all knew they could and gave our guys the opportunity to score. The defense allowed only 4 goals in 5 games and played awesome. I will point out what an outstanding tournament Matt Green had. He saved several goals that I thought were sure things. Congratulations to the team and coaches for a job well done.

Parkway Tournament: Shreve Girls take 2nd
The girls began the morning with a 2-0 win over Airline. The first half saw numerous shots on goal with a strong wind working against the girls. In the second half, Ashleigh Fitzgerald converted a corner kick from Caydence into the first goal of the match. These two teamed up a bit later when Ashleigh made a solid pass that Caydence easily slipped past the goalie. Shreve's win sent them to finals against Parkway.
The girls played well in the finals, but had a hard time getting near the goal. Parkway won 3-0 leaving Shreve with the 2nd place trophy. Way to go girls!

Show Case Day 2
The boys did not play as well as light night, but they played well enough to defeat Clinton 3-2. Brennan started it off in the 6th minute with an assist form Jordan, to Connor and then to Brennan. Matt made a great save in the 12th minute. A one handed dive to the lower front right corner to knock one away. Shreve got goal # 2 on a long pass from Christopher to Connor. It looked liked the Gators relaxed for just a minute and that's all it took for Clinton to get there 1st goal. At the half it's 2-1. In the 36th minute, Brennan passed to Connor for his 2nd goal. 3 minutes later, Clinton got through for their 2nd goal. It went back and forth for the next 10 minutes has the Gators held on for the win. The semi final is in sight. A win or tie will guarantee that 4th game.

Parkway Tournament: Day Two
There was no fight in the Shreve girls tonight and Parkway came away with a 4-0 win. Hopefully, the girls will re-group and come ready to play on Day Three.
Friday, December 19
Boys Start Showcase with a 4-0 win.
The boys played very well today as they defeated Teurlings in game 1 of the Louisiana Showcase Tournament. They showed how good they can be, when they all work together.. Connor started the scoring with an assist from Will M., who was standing in at sweeper today. Connor made a nice chip over the keeper. Connor struck again off a pass from Christopher L. Connor took the pass and goes 30 yards and beats the keeper. Christopher and Connor struck again in the 2nd half for the 3rd goal and put the icing on the cake. Mat Edwardes got # 4 with 5 minutes left in the game. It was a very nice all around effort, both offense and defense were solid.

Parkway Tournament: Day One
Thursday night the girls found the back of the net! The Parkway JV spent the first few minutes trying to push past the midfield, but were finally forced into playing a game of defense. Shreve's first goal came from Hilary Prevot off a pass from Caydence Leber. That got the mid's ready to score! Sarah Ditt had a nice run up the far side to convert a pass from Caydence into the second goal of the night. The second half saw a nice pass by Hilary put in by Caydence. It was then Lauren Folsom's turn to maneuver herself into position to score off the pass. After hitting the cross bar, time after time, Caydence finally converted a long ball from Shelly Gonsoulin into a dash past the defense. Final score 5-0.

Boys defeat Airline 5-0
The Gators chalked up District win # 2 and are now 2-0 in District and 7-1 overall. This game was a huge step up from last week. The team started off very well and very crisp. We dominated the first 20 minutes beginning with a Brennan Randel score in the 2nd minute. Brennan was assisted by Tyler Smith. Brennan hooked up with Connor for the next two goals, with Brennan getting 2 assist and Connor the 2 goals. At the half Gators are up 3-0. Everyone saw action tonight and the reserves made it a quality effort. In the 49th minute, Tyler Wagon gets his 1st Varsity goal on a header off of a Jordan Gray corner kick. Ten minutes later, Chris Hammon collected his 1st goal of the year off of a Mat Edwardes pass. His 1st Varsity Assist. Speaking of first, Austin Wisby gets in as keeper during the 2nd half. Airline had only one legit shot on goal, a hard shot from 12 yards out. Austin punched it out for the save. That same ball rebounded off of an Airline attacker and Logan clear it from in front of the net. This may have been the best effort of the year for the team. The defense turn back every Viking challenge and the offense work well together. Everyone played well and had quality time on the field. Total team effort. Let's carry this onto Lake Charles for the Showcase. Go Gators!!!!!!!!!!!

Girls lose to Airline 2-0
I have said it before, and I will say it again. The Varsity Girls don't give up! Despite missing two starting players, our girls shuffled around and made a go of it. Both of Airline's goals came in the first half as our girls tried to adjust. The girls held strong in the second half and we had a couple of shots on goal. One shot, from 18 yards out, looked like it was going to curve right into the top corner. A beautiful shot that hit the cross bar! As much fun as it is to see Emily Watson in the midfield and Caydence Leber in defense, we look forward to the re-match with a full roster. Go Gators!

Boys down Ruston 4-1
Mediocre - of moderate or low quality, value or performance. Ordinary, SO-SO.
That pretty much sums up tonights game. Although, you always like to get the win, even if it's ugly. Tonight was very mediocre. With a game Thursday and again on Monday, the Gators need to get it together or the next two tournaments are going to be extremely tough. We have flashes of brillance and great play, but far to often we are mediocre. We are not representative of a top ranked team. Hopefully, the boys will have two good weeks ahead of them and we can bring it all together in Lake Charles. They have the ability, the skills, and the talent, they just need to put it all together in the form of a team.
Of course, this is just one person's opinion.
Goals tonight were 2 by Brennan, 1 by Connor and 1 by Christopher Lawrence. Assist were from Brennan with 2, Sam with 1 and Will with 1.
Next up is Huntington at Cargill, 6:00 Thursday night.
Sunday, December 7
Boys ranked 6th in latest poll.
The boys have been voted # 6 in the latest poll. 1 - Lafayette, 2- Magnet, 3 - Jesuit
4- Catholic, 5 - Dutchtown & 6 - Shreve.

Shreve Varsity Girls hang tough at the Gator Cup
The Gator Girls followed their win over Loyola on Thursday with a hard fought game against DeRidder on Friday. The game ended in a 1-1 tie. Shreve's goal came from Hilary Privot with an assist by Caydence Leber.
Saturday morning began with a game against Tioga. Hilary began the scoring by dribbling past the defenders and into the net. Less than a minute later, Emily Watson put the ball at Caydence's feet for the second goal. At the top of the second half Caydence scored twice more with assists from Hilary and Caitlyn Abney. The final goal of the game came from a nice combination of passes from Caitlyn to Emily to Beth Girard who neatly scored the goal. Final score 5-0.
The Girls then moved on to the Semi Finals where they faced Caddo Magnet. The first half saw the girls give up 5 goals to Magnet, but not a one in the second half. Way to hang tough girls! Magnet wins 5-0.
Friday, December 5
Girls Varsity beats Loyola 2-1
The Shreve girls took the field ready to put the ball in the net. And that's exactly what they did when Caydence Leber dribbled around the defense and scored the first goal of the evening. Unfortunately for Loyola, Caydence scored her second goal of the night, on a PK, after a hand ball was called in the box. Loyola retaliated at the top of the second half, scoring their only goal. With some nice passing combinations from the midfield and a defense that held strong, Shreve came out on top with a 2-1 victory.
Tuesday, December 2
Varsity Girls never lost their fighting spirit
The Varsity Girls never lost their fighting spirit in their 1st District game against Byrd. Every time this young group plays they work better as a team. The girls made very few scoring opportunities for themselves in this game, but the defense stood strong through the first twenty-five minutes of play until Byrd scored against a scrambling defense. Byrd scored twice more in the next ten minutes, ending the first half. Ellen Lockhart made some exceptional saves throughout the game, but the team was playing to close to the goal at the top of the second half and Bryd was able to score. Ellen took advantage of a stop for an injury to get her team organized. It worked. They held Byrd back until the final three minutes. Final score: 5-0. Some stand out players in this game were Shelly Gonsoulin, Caitlin Abney, and Ellen Lockhart. Keep that fighting spirit girls!

Boys Varsity Shut Out Byrd
In the 1st District game of the season the Gators defeated Byrd 2-0. The 1st half was scoreless and looked very much like the Catholic game last Saturday. We moved the ball around a lot but had very few quality shots. We had two nice tries that the Byrd keeper jumped on for the saves. Others flew over the cross bar as the wind lifted them up and out. Toward the last 10 minutes of the first half, Shreve begin to control the game a little more, but the half ended 0-0. The second half begin and we continued to maintain control. Finally in the 67th minute, Jordan Gray made a pass up the middle to Connor Randel, who put it in the net for a 1-0 lead. This seem to energize everyone and we begin to play a lot better. The midfield with Will Monsour, Sam Fell and Jordan played both sidesof the halfway line very well and kept Byrd from gaining any momentum. The defense with Kevin Rakel, Logan Calhoun and Johnny Reisz did a great job keeping the ball from getting to Matt. On those that did make it through, Matt came up big and had some huge stops. Johnny was starting his 1st game as a defender, and seemed to be a natural at it. In the 78th minute Brennan converted a PK for the final goal and a 2-1 win. Congrats to the Gators, on to Ruston.
Sunday, November 30
Boys lose in Semi Final to Catholic.
It was wet and sloppy on Saturday afternoon as the Gators took on the Catholic Rams. The Rams have a good team and it was a competitive game for the entire 60 minutes. The Rams got a score 5 minutes into the game with a breakaway up the middle. They had a nice through ball to an attacker on the run. Good play on their part. That one goal is all that was needed as the game remained scoreless the rest of the way.
Tuesday the 2nd is a big District Game with Byrd. Come out an support your Gators.
Saturday, November 29
Boy Beat Rummel, Advance to Semis
The boys shutout Rummel on Saturday morning 2-0 to complete bracket play in the Dutchtown tournament. In the 29th minute Sam Fell had an assist to Connorfor the score just before half. The second half was a good game with play being even between the two teams. Rummel had a few chances and so did the Gators. With about 5 ninutes to go n the game, Rummel took a free kick from the Gator 30, Jordan cleared the ball to Brennan at mif field, and he took it the rest of the way. He eluded the keeper in front of the goal for the soft tounch into the net. Shreve wins 2-0. Shreve went 3-0 in bracket play and will advance to face 4th ranked Catholic Baton Rouge in the semifinals on Saturday afternoon.

Dutchtown: 1st Day Results
The boys had a successful start to the Dutchtown Tournament today. In the first game the Gators defeated East Ascension 3-2. The Gators controlled most of the 1st half with several scoring opportunites but only capitalizing twice. At the 15 mminute mark, Will M., sent a nice ball from midfield up the middle to Connor. Connor received at the 18 and dribbled into the 6 yard area and scored easily. 2 minutes later Kevin Rakel took advantage of a strong wind and sent a ball from deep on our defensive end to Connor. Again, he dribbles up close and scoresgoal # 2. !st half ends with Gators up 2-0. The 2nd half was more balanced as EA came out and scored in the 41st and 50th minute. The defense relaxed a little and EA took advantage. In between their 2 goals Brennan scored on a nice drop pass from the goal line by Jordan. Brennan took the pass at the PK mark and touch it into the goal. Game ends 3-2
Second Game against STA was not competitive. Shreve wins 4-0. By end of the ist half it was 3-0 and STA only crossed our 30 twice. Everyone got good playing time in this game. Brenna scores 3 goals and Will M got a PK. Assist came form Jordan, Austin and Christoper Lawrence.
We have Rummel at 11:30 Saturday and the semi at 1:30. If successful the final is 5:30.
