Handout: AAU Tryouts

Wednesday, March 4

Hello all players and parents,

Here are some helpful tidbits about our team and it's philosophy..

Shooting Stars Basketball and our AAU program are about development and learning at a "high school prep"level. Most players play for their travel teams, very few get to play for the varsity thigh school team or even an elite AAU team. We are a MetroWest Mass based AAU. Most of our players play baseball, soccer, lacrosse or some additional spring activity, but we manage to make it all work. We will practice from the end March until the end of May, playing in 6-7 tournaments. Individual teams can do more if the players and their families decide to do so.

Our program has also grown to include summer day camps, an overnight camp as wel as fall skills clinics and a full blown fall AAU program. Our coaches are also available for individual instruction upon request.

Game time philosophy. Each player will have to use practice time to earn hisor her minutes. With that said, why would you put your daughter or son on one of our teams if he/she isn't going to play in the games? The game time will be fair but not even. Each team's philosophy will be discussed prior to the start of the spring season.

Practice philosophy. Each player will receive 3 hours of practice time each week. We wil spend 50 to 60 percent of this time working on individual improvement. The players will be treated as players, not as guards, forwards, etc. Everyone will learn basic and advanced fundamentals.

Goals for each team.
A. Help each player improve every practice
B. Provide fair game minutes for each player
C. Have a ton of fun!!

Good luck to all our players - Coach Leip - or
