Sheldon Distance Carnival
Friday, April 27th, 2012 @Sheldon H.S.
We welcome Teams or Individuals(of all skill levels).
The Sheldon Distance Carnival has a fast track that has produced lots of PR’s. This year, we're going to make the Meet even more athlete oriented, by providing more awards(see below). Since this is one of the last opportunities for many athletes to earn awards this season, we're going to be generous with awards. We're also hoping to add a few more surprises by Meet day. We want our Distance Carnival to be an enjoyable experience for athletes to remember.
The 3rd annual Sheldon Distance Carnival will be held under the lights, on our Mondo All-Weather track. The first High School event will start at 5:00pm, and Jr. High School will start at 4:30pm, rain or shine.
The Frosh/Soph Girls, Frosh/Soph Boys, Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys, will have unlimited entries in each division for the 800m, 1600m & 3200m.
The 4x800m & Distance Medley Relays will be run in 3 divisions: Frosh/Soph Boys, Varsity Girls & Varsity Boys, with unlimited entries in each division. Athletes competing in Frosh/Soph individual races will be allowed to compete on Relays in the Varsity division.
Jr. High School events will be the 800m & 1600m, with unlimited entries.
MORE AWARDS THIS YEAR!!!!!! 2.5 inch Medals
The 1st place finisher in all 1st heats of the High School individual races will have their choice of a Distance Carnival Champion t-shirt or a medal. One t-shirt per athlete.
Medals to the next 5 finishers in the 1st heat of all individual High School races.
NEW THIS YEAR: Medals for the 'top 6' finishers in all 2nd heats.
NEW THIS YEAR: Any individual heat with 15 or more athletes will receive medals for the 'top 8' finishers.
Medals to the 'top 3' teams in all relays.
Jr. High School: medals to the top 6 finishers in ALL heats.
There will be restrooms, but no locker rooms available, so athletes should come to the meet dressed to compete.
We will again provide music, and have a snackbar. Unique Distance Carnival t-shirts(long-sleeve and short sleeve) can be purchased at the snackbar.
There will be plenty of free parking.
$3 General admission, children 10 & younger are free.
High School entry fee is $140 per team ($40 per division), or $8 per athlete.
Jr. High School entry fee is $25 maximum per school, or $3 per athlete.
Please make checks payable to Sheldon High School Cross Country.
Checks can be hand delivered on the day of the meet, or mailed early to: Sheldon High School, 8333 Kingsbridge Drive, Sacramento, CA 95829, c/o Glenn Rogers, Cross Country Coach.
High Schools please enter your 'intent to participate' on Athletic.net, and email the following information to xccoachrogers@aol.com to confirm your entry:

4. Which divisions you will participate
There is no pre-entry required for individuals or relay teams prior to the meet.
Athletes will be seeded at the meet.
Spikes must be ¼ inch or smaller to compete on the Mondo track. We will have ¼ inch pyramid spikes for sale at the snackbar(8 for $1). Athletes will be allowed to compete in training shoes or racing flats.
Athletes are asked to check in with the clerk 20 minutes before their scheduled event. The Clerk will be located on the infield. Race tags will be provided for each runner in the individual races, and for the anchor leg on relays. Each race tag must indicate the athlete's name & school. We don't plan on making 'calls' for each race, so athletes should be ready for their events on schedule.
Warm-ups will be allowed on the infield.
We will have monitors at each gate leading to the infield, for movement control across the track, to avoid interfering with races that might be in progress.
All races will have a waterfall start, and a cross country style finish chute.
