Jr "C"s pick up tie in Jr "C" action
Elora- Our Jr "C" Vets picked up a much needed point on sunday night at the Elora Community Center tieing the (3-2-2) Fergus thistles 4-4 in O/T. This was a nailbiter and a denfensive battle all night long. The 2 teams didn't score in the opening frame then Quinn Fraser finally broke the goose egg for the Vets in the opening minute of the second on a great individual effort to get him the ball from Captain Dave Irons. The Thistles would tie it up a few minutes later before Tyler Sheppard would again put the Vets up 2-1 on the powerplay from Bret Snell and Mark Hall. The Thistles would tie it on a give away in the last minute of the second. The third saw the Thistles go ahead but only to see Mark Hall of the Vets rip one in the top left corner to tie it back up again with assist to Dave Irons. The Thistles on a 5 minute powerplay finally connected with just over a minute left in it to again regain the lead 4-3. Pete Bannon on a great individual effort split through to tie the game once again with just over 3 minutes left for the Vets. The Vets Tyler Greer almost gave the Vets the win as he ripped one off the crossbar with just 2 seconds left in regulation time. A 10 minute overtime period wouldn't settle the score either as neither side could score however Vets goalie Darryl Estier who was outstanding all game stopped the Thistles on a breakaway inthe last minute of overtime to secure a point for the Vets.
The Vets do battle once again with the Thistles in a rematch at the Bunker this coming friday (June 1st) at 8pm....should be another great game.
