  Welcome

Saturday, December 10
RESPECT,HONOUR AND PRIDE ..... VETERANS LACROSSE.

Welcome to the Shelburne Veterans website.  The Vets were founded in the winter of 1998 with our first game being played in the summer of 1999. Two of the original founders  Barry Trood and  Mark Early are still with the club which is now heading into our 14th year on the floor in 2012. The "Veterans" nickname was chosen to honour all of our Canadian War Vets who have served our country so well over the past 100 years. Thanks to them our country is free and continues to be so.

Thank a Vet they are truly our real heroes!

Our first player ever signed was "Cody Jamieson" who was a PeeWee player at the time and  continued playing until 2007 with our Intermediate team until he went overage in 2008. Cody was a member of our Ontario Champion Intermediate "C" team that won in 2005 and was also a member of our Bantam "D" team which also won the Vets first Ontario title back in 2000.  Pete Bannon Jr. scored the Veterans first goal ever with Luke Burke having our first assist on that goal.  Both were members of our Tyke team back in 1999 in what was a 13-2 loss to Arthur that opening game. Peter and Luke are still playing lacrosse for our Jr "C" Vets. Both would also play big parts in leading their team to a Ontario Tyke championship the following year 2000.

Our club has won 7 provincial championships as follows:  2000 Bantam "D", 2000 Tyke "D", 2001 Novice "D", 2004 Midget "C" , 2005 Intermediate "C", 2010 Tyke "C" and 2010 Novice "C".  We have also been provincial finalists 9 times as well including 3 in our first year of operation in 1999 to 2011 with our Tyke and Novice teams being Ontario finalists.

Our PeeWee team toured Saint John , New Brunswick in 2004 winning the Fundy Riptide tournament while also playing 2 games against the N.B. provincial team.  It was a great great trip for all the players and staff.

In 2006 Daniel Craig of our PeeWee Vets team became our first player to make the Ontario Provincial team.  This was quite an honour for Daniel as well as for our club. Daniel was the only player from a "C" rated center to make the team that year and has been the only Vets player to do so.  In 2011 Daniel continued to shine as he was Shelburne's first ever player to be drafted into Jr "A" league going 3rd overall by the Barrie Lakeshores.  He didn't disappoint as he was second in team scoring and was top goal scorer in his rookie year! Well done Daniel!

Our club won the OLA award in 2000 for the club that best promotes the game of lacrosse in the province.

The year 2008 marked our clubs 10th year anniversary and what better way to mark the development of our club then see our club be awarded a Jr."C" lacrosse team in the newly formed OLA Jr."C" lacrosse league. In 2008 there were 5 teams and now in 2011 the Jr "C" Vets are now one of 18 teams in the league with the other teams being Caledon, Center Wellington, Innisfil, West Durham, Peterboro, Kingston ,Clarington, Nepean, Gloucester, Kahnawake, Cornwall,Brockville, Halton Hills, Mimico, Wilmot and Huntsville.  These are our local players so give them your support. Its a great place for your child to watch and learn the game!  Make a point of taking in the action this summer!

In other news former Vets female player. "Hanna Early" daughter of our former VP Mark Early who showed her talents while she played Vets box lacrosse with the boys through the years but it crossed over to the the women's field game as she was selected for Canada's under 19 team tryouts for 2010.  Hanna is just an excellent athlete and we're all so glad she has been rewarded for her hard work in lacrosse over the years.  Another female grad from our box lacrosse program is our President's daughter "Iris Bannon" who has also show her talents with a lacrosse stick after playing box lacrosse till she was 14.  Iris made the womens team Ontario squad. Iris is also a excellent athlete and shows playing lacrosse against the boys made the change into girls lacrosse that much easier!  Kudos to both Hanna and Iris you done yourself proud!

Barry Trood our founder was nominated by the Tri-Towns Lacrosse Club (Haileybury/New Liskard )and was awarded the "Mr Lacrosse Award" from the OLA for the person who best promotes the game of lacrosse in Ontario for 2009.  This is the OLA 's highest honour Award and was much appreciated by Barry. In 2011 Mark Early was awarded the top coach in Zone 4 at the OLA AGM. Mark has been coaching in our system since our first season in 1999 and has coached numerous championship teams...congrats to Mark!

The 2012 Vets executive will see a new President leading the club.  "Sondra Doolittle" takes over from Bobbi Jo Bannon who has been President since 2008. The club has only had 3 presidents since its first season with Barry Trood serving from 1999 to 2007.  Sondra looks to keep the Vets great track record in place in the 2012 season and she will continue  working towards excellence in lacrosse in an enjoyable enviroment for all our players and their families.  If you can help out please let Sondra know .....remember they are your kids and you can make the difference.  Good Luck in 2012!
