A Big Thanks to Parents and Boosters

The Eagles are blessed with the good fortune of a great high school baseball facility.  A successful program and great facilites cannot be possible without the un-ending support of parents and boosters.  Improvements to the facility such as the new brick walls and nets between the stadium and dugouts, the painting of the stadium, and improvements still to come are only possible because of your time, talent, and resources.  A big thanks to all of you that have helped, and we ask for your continued support.

We had a great turnout on Saturday, February 9.  All of the sponsorship outfield signs were put up, and the handrails around the concession stand look great.  Thanks to all who came and helped.  The field and stadium are looking great.

Eagles Earn Berth to State Tounament with Victory Over Morgan City

The Eagles earned a berth to the Louisiana 4A State Baseball Tournament with a 10-7 win over Morgan City.  The Eagles have reached the 4A State Tournament in each of the last three years, the only school in Class 4A to do so.  The tournament will be played on Thursday and Friday, May 8th and 9th at Fair Grounds Field in Shreveport.

In the Morgan City game, the Eagles scored 3 runs in the second to take an early lead on a double by Beau Boudreaux, an RBI single by Jordan Landry, an RBI double by Jared Landry, and an RBI single by Ross Barbier.

Morgan City cut the lead to 3-1 in the fourth, but the Eagles extended it to 7-1 in the fifth. Brandon Snow singled and Scott Fabre stroked his fifth homer of the year with a towering shot down the left field line.  Two more runs would score in the inning on a single by Drew Milligan, an RBI double by Corey Wilson, and another RBI single by Jordan Landry.

Starting pitcher Kyle Blancaneaux continued to hold Morgan City down, allowing only 1 run on three hits though six innings.  In the seventh, the Eagles padded their lead to 10-1.  A single by Milligan and a double by Wilson put runners at second and third.  Boudreaux was hit by pitch to load the bases.  Two runs would score on bases loaded walks to Brady Radosti an Cody Galle.  Radosti scored the third run of the inning on a wild pitch.

Despite a 9 run deficit going to the bottom of the seventh, Morgan City would not end their season quietly.  A base on balls was followed by 4 consecutive hits to score three runs, and prompted Coach Doug Faust to replace Blancaneaux with Boudreaux.   Three more runs would score on 2 Eagle errors before Boudreaux got 2 ground outs.  The rally and game ended when catcher Cody Galle threw out a runner at home on a wild pitch with Boudreaux covering.

The Eagles collected 12 hits on the day, with Barbier, Wilson, Milligan, and Jordan Landry each getting 2.  Blancaneaux picked up his 8th win of the season and second of the playoffs.  He allowed 6 runs, 4 earned, on 7 hits, 4 walks, and 4 strikeouts on 6 plus innings of work.

Eagles Top #1 Seed Neville to Advance to Championship Game

On May 8, 2008, the Eagles faced off with #1 seeded Neville Tigers in the semifinals of the LA Class 4A baseball tournament at Fair Grounds Field in Shreveport, LA.  It was the third consecutive year in which the Eagles reached the semifinals.

The two teams each scored a run in the first inning.  The Eagles scored when Scott Fabre singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch, then scored on a Drew Milligan single.  Neville would tie the score in the bottom half with an unearned run on a single, a wild pitch, and a throwing error.

While starter Kyle Blancaneaux was quieting Neville's bats with 1 hit though 3 innings, the Eagles took a 6-1 lead with a 5 run fourth.  Corey Wilson singled with one out, and Beau Boudreaux was hit by a pitch.  After a strikeout for the second out, Jared Landry walked to load the based.  Steve Daigle then walked to push the first run in.  Two more runs would score when Ross Barbier hit a sharp chopper to first that was misplayed.  A walk to Brandon Snow caused Neville to replace their starting pitcher.  Scott Fabre greeted the replacement by lining a 2 run single up the middle.

Neville cut the lead to 6-4 in the 5th with a single, walk, and a three run homer, but the Eagles continued to put pressure on the Tigers with 1 run in the sixth and 2 in the seventh.  In the sixth, Barbier singled with two outs and went to second on a passed ball.  Snow reached on an infield single before Fabre singled again to score Barbier.  Blancaneaux would shut down Neville in the sixth.  In the seventh, Milligan and Wilson led off the inning with singles.  Todd Condoll replaced Milligan and stole third.  He scored on a Jordan Landry sacrifice fly. Pinch hitter Sean Connors walked to put runners at 1st and second, and Daigle singled in Wilson, giving the Eagles a 9-4 lead.

Neville was not yet done.  In the bottom half of the seventh, Blancaneaux opened the inning with 2 walks, causing Coach Doug Faust to replace Blancaneaux with Boudreaux. Another walk, 3 wild pitches, and a single put the score at 9-8 with no outs.  Boudreaux would then retire the final 3 batters to secure the victory.

Fabre, Milligan, Wilson, and Daigle each had 2 hits for the Eagles.  Fabre had 3 RBI's and Daigle had 2.  Blancaneaux allowed only 5 hits though 6 plus innings to a team hitting over .400 as a team for the season.  He picked up his 9th win of the year, and his third win in the playoffs.

Eagles Shut Down By Zachary

The Eagles, the #5 seed, faced off with the #3 seed and defending state champion Zachary Broncos in the 2008 Louisiana Class 4A state baseball championship at Fair Grounds Field in Shreveport, LA.  The Eagles were looking for the school's first state baseball championship and also looking to avenge a semifinal loss to Zachary in 2007.

Zachary took an early 2-0 lead in the first on a walk, a triple, and a single.  It would turn out to be all the runs they would need as the Eagles could not find an answer to Zachary's pitching.  Zacahry would score 4 unearned runs in the 4th and 1 run in the sixth for the final 7-0 margin.

The Eagles could muster only 1 hit by Scott Fabre for the night.

The Eagles finished their oustanding season with a 26-14 record and their second state runner-up in the past three years.  Congratulations for all that has been accomplished.
