SHARKS WRESTLING CLUB
Welcome to the Sharks Wrestling Club where excellence in wrestling is defined through respect, dedication, determination, sportsmanship and team work as well as individual physical skills. The Sharks Wrestling Club is a non-profit organization and a member of USA Wrestling which is the National Governing Body for the sport of Wrestling in the United States and its representative to the Olympic Committee. Our purpose is to provide both mental and physical instruction to children in kindergarten through eighth grade in the art of Wrestling. It has been our experience that the art of Wrestling not only develops a child’s physical stature and increases their self esteem and mental well being, but provides a significant advantage to the individual should they continue Wrestling in high school and college.
The Sharks’ season is scheduled to begin with our first practice on November 1, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. in the varsity wrestling room at Maine East High School and continues through the beginning of March 2013. Practices are generally held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Maine East, as well as an alternate practice at Maine West High School on Wednesdays at the same time. Tournaments are usually every Sunday beginning the first week in December with dual meets or practices held throughout the season usually on Mondays or Wednesdays. Tournament locations will vary from week to week, depending on who the host is. Tournaments cost $5.00 each, however they are optional, but we do recommend that you participate in them. In addition, the Sharks host their own tournament, which is scheduled this year for December 16, 2012 at Maine East, and participate in duel meets throughout the season. Our season ends with a state tournament where the best of the best compete, just like the high schools.
If you are interested in wrestling for the Sharks or are just curious about wrestling, you can register through January 31, 2013, but our set registration dates are October 16 and October 18, 2012, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Maine East Varsity Wrestling Room, at Maine West on October 24 in B-wing gym 6:30 to 7:30 or come to a practice (Enter through the back of the school near the field house and trophy case and go up the first set of stairs). The cost of the program is $100.00 along with a $25.00 check for a uniform deposit and all first year wrestlers must supply a photocopy of their birth certificate to verify age. This money will be used for the registration as well as a pizza party, awards at the end of the year, and T-shirt for participating in the program. If you have any questions about the Sharks please contact Michael Conrad at (847) 769-2922.
HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!
