THE FEARLESS FORECASTERS PICK WEEK NINE GAMES
O'Neill WR Patrick Doty
O'Neill WR Patrick Doty

RICK STONE (14-2 last week, 110-23 overall) SAYS: Okay, coaches. Here’s your weekly list of bulletin board material. Some of these non-playoffs games will be tough to pick as a few teams may have already packed it in, but here goes anyway. I’ll start with the playoff semi’s:

ELLENVILLE over Millbrook -- The Class B top-seeded Blue Devils won the first game, 40-0 … SULLIVAN WEST over Liberty -- This Class C 2 v 3 game could be one of the weekend’s most exciting … CORNWALL over Saugerties -- The A top-seed Green Dragons have kicked it up a notch since these teams met in week three … WALLKILL over Port Jervis -- As with most 2-3 matchups, this Class A contest should be a goodie. The Panthers are back at full strength … HIGHLAND over Marlboro -- The Huskies may not win by 41 this time but they’ll still win big in this B 1 v 4 game… O’NEILL over New Paltz -- This Class B 2-3 game will be a reversal of the early season 2-point win by the Hugies. A good matchup … MONROE-WOODBURY over Minisink Valley -- The Crusaders take their first step back to the Carrier Dome, but the Warriors will make them earn it … NEWBURGH over Warwick -- This could be another “game for the ages.” It is a shame that we must say good-bye to one of these outstanding teams.

Now for the non-leaguers where the question is, “Who’s in the mood to play?” Here goes: KINGSTON over Washingtonville -- The Tigers won’t pass up this golden opportunity to finish with a winning record in coach Collins’ first season. Meanwhile the Wizards are looking forward to the successful jayvee promotees joining the current juniors who’ll all suit up in ’10 …VALLEY CENTRAL over Middletown -- The Vikings also want a 5-4 record and some momentum to take them into a promising 2010 … TRI-VALLEY over LMR -- The Bears battle the Devilcats in a Sullivan County slugfest for bragging rights … PINE BUSH over FDR -- I could get this one wrong since the Bushmen have lost five in a row while the Presidents have won two straight. PB Pride is on the line … CHESTER over Pine Plains -- As one opposing coach said recently, “Chester sure can score, can’t they?!” … GOSHEN over Red Hook -- Each team has lost its last four games, but Goshen won the season’s opener at Red Hook, 3-0, in OT. The Glads are at home this time and have played a much tougher schedule. Will they give the loyal Gustafson tailgaters something to cheer about? ... SPACKENKILL over Onteora -- The Spartans get their third win while the rebuilding Indians finish zip-for eight … ELDRED over Burke Catholic -- The scrappy Class B Eagles will look to give the Class D Yellowjackets their first loss, but that shouldn’t happen. Eldred knows that Chester beat BC.

RICH ARNOTT was brilliant again last week going 16-0 for an overall record of 60-5. This week he and Rick must have been on the same page. Here are Rich’s picks:

ELLENVILLE over Millbrook – The state-ranked Blue Devils are toughened up even more after last week’s fight against Highland … SULLIVAN WEST over Liberty – A very close contest that could go down to the wire with the Bulldogs setting up a meeting with Ellenville for the Class C title … CORNWALL over Saugerties – The Dragons have a potent offense and the Sawyers could wear down … WALLKILL over Port Jervis – The Panthers will probably make adjustments from the loss to the Raiders two weeks ago plus have some key players returning so this could get interesting … HIGHLAND over Marlboro – Despite missing some players, the Huskies still play out as the favorite to advance to the state tournament … O’NEILL over New Paltz – Jon Diaz returns for the Huguenots but the Raiders get revenge for an earlier season loss and get Highland as a reward … MONROE-WOODBURY over Minisink Valley – If the Warriors play like they did against Warwick, with QB Kevin Freeman completing passes and Andrew Haelen eating up yards, the Crusaders will have a challenge … KINGSTON over Washingtonville – Coach Jeramie Collins sees his Tigers wrap up his first season at the helm with a win … VALLEY CENTRAL over Middletown – Fine QB Shane MacNamara leads the Vikings to victory one more time … PINE BUSH over FDR – But the Presidents have played good football the past three weeks … CHESTER over Pine Plains – Nice job by Coach Stover’s depleted troops in defeating Class B Burke … GOSHEN over Red Hook – A rematch from an early season encounter that the Gladiators won, 3-0, in overtime on a John Stephens field goal … SPACKENKILL over Onteora – The Spartans take this season finale in front of the home fans … ELDRED over Burke Catholic – The Jackets generate more than enough offense to buzz down the Eagles … TRI-VALLEY over LMR – The young Bears promise to get even better next season.
