RICK STONE SAYS: I wrote enough in yesterday’s rankings column, so I’ll try to keep it brief here. The golf course beckons. (Note: Rick was 13-3 last week to make his overall record 96-21.)
PORT JERVIS over New Paltz -- The Class A Raiders have more depth than the Class B Raiders … NEWBURGH over Kingston -- The proud but wounded Tigers will give it all they‘ve got, but that won‘t be enough to stop NFA from claiming the #2 seed in AA-I … MONROE-WOODBURY over Pine Bush -- The Bushmen have managed to give the powerful Cru a respectible battle the last couple of seasons, but their chances of repeating that are very slim this year. Like Kingston, they’re missing key personnel … VALLEY CENTRAL over Washingtonville -- Wizard coach Don Clark has a rebuilding project on his hands and with the jayvees doing well, things should start to look up in ’10. But VC will own this one … CORNWALL over Wallkill -- The young Dragons have matured quickly and will earn the Class A top seed with a win over veteran Wallkill … HIGHLAND over Ellenville -- What a great matchup of unbeaten and state-ranked teams from different divisions! The Battle of Ulster. Trench warfare at its best. Somehow the Huskies will win by one. 7-6, maybe? … BURKE CATHOLIC over Chester -- With the Class D Hambletonians playing short-handed, the Class B Eagles must grab this opportunity to get their second win … MILLBROOK over Pine Plains -- The Blazers beat their Dutchess neighbors and grab a playoff spot … MIDDLETOWN over Saugerties -- The disappointing Middies need to snap their three-game losing streak. They can’t afford to be overconfident or the Sawyers will spank ’em … WARWICK over Minisink Valley -- The game for the top seed in AA-II will see the Warriors challenge the Wildcat passing attack, but in the end relentless Warwick will win by a couple of scores … ELDRED over Livingston Manor-Roscoe … The Yellowjackets should have a happy Homecoming, remain unbeaten and garner the top seed in Class D … SULLIVAN WEST over Tri-Valley -- The Bulldogs tune up for the playoffs … LIBERTY over Spackenkill -- Liberty is about 99% assured a playoff seed but with Spackenkill still in the hunt, the Indians won’t take anything for granted … FDR over Red Hook -- The Presidents look to win their second in a row while Red Hook is trying to snap a three-game losing streak … O’NEILL over Goshen -- These teams have had two common opponents this season; and the Raiders, who are starting to get things together, were a little more successful. Look for a close game … BOGOTA, NJ over Marlboro -- The Dukes are 2-0 on their new home turf, but 3-3 Bogota plays a little tougher competition. Look for a close game.
Now we call upon RICH ARNOTT for his prognostications. Last week Rich was 12-4 for an overall record of 44-5.
PORT JERVIS over New Paltz – Great job by the Raiders in surprising Wallkill last week. Now they’ll take on a quality Class B challenger on the road as a tune-up for the playoffs … NEWBURGH over Kingston – The high-flying Goldbacks wrap up the regular season with a win over their long-time rival and get set for the AA-II champ in the semis … MONROE-WOODBURY over Pine Bush – After a very good 2008, the Bushmen have struggled this season and the Crusaders will complete an extraordinary sixth straight perfect regular season … VALLEY CENTRAL over Washingtonville – The Vikings just missed a playoff spot this year but will finish with a second AA-II win … CORNWALL over Wallkill – The Dragons are rolling right now just as the big games approach. The Panthers suffered a big setback against Port Jervis last week which may hurt more psychologically going into this game than anything else … HIGHLAND over Ellenville – This marks one of the best regular season games of the year in Section Nine as state-ranked B and C teams collide. If the Huskies’ defense holds true to form, they could growl this one out … CHESTER over Burke Catholic – The Hambletonians will still miss a few players so this could be a stretch going up two classes … MILLBROOK over Pine Plains – The Blazers will finally find some offense after a rough two-week drought … SAUGERTIES over Middletown – This should make for a good matchup as the Sawyers prepare themselves for Cornwall in the Class A semis next week … WARWICK over Minisink Valley – The winner here takes the AA-II title and top seed billing against the AA-I second seed in a semifinal at Middletown’s Faller Field. The Warriors have a solid defense presented with the challenge of dealing with perhaps Warwick’s best offense ever at 41 ppg … ELDRED over LMR – The Jackets will clinch the regular season Class D crown with a Homecoming win at Glennette … SULLIVAN WEST over Tri-Valley – The Bulldogs may have a bit too much bite for the Bears this year … LIBERTY over Spackenkill – Good work by the Indians last week in shutting down Millbrook and playoff-bound Liberty can now look toward another Class C win in front of the home town contingent … FDR over Red Hook – Errol Evans has had an excellent couple of weeks and will look to lead the Presidents to another win … O’NEILL over Goshen – The Raiders have gotten things going lately and should have enough to beat struggling Class A Goshen … BOGOTA, NJ over Marlboro – The 3-3 Buccaneers defeated league foe Pascack Hills by a touchdown, which beat O’Neill by 22 points, who knocked off the Dukes by 30.
