TAKING A LOOK AT TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS

I thought it would be interesting to take a look at the number of championships our Section Nine teams have won over the years throughout their different leagues. So I went to this site's "Section Nine History" page and gathered the information that we have at our disposal. This list is not complete, of course, and we'll take any new information sent our way. Some schools are relatively new at football and don't have as many titles. Others, like Port Jervis or Newburgh, have had great championship success over the years.

Let's take a look at old league titles and sectional championships only. Remember we're NOT counting division or conference crowns here. "DUSO" stands for Dutchess-Ulster-Sullivan-Orange League, "OCL" stands for Orange County League, "UCAL" is Ulster County Athletic League, "MHAL" is Mid-Hudson Athletic League, and "WSL" is Western Sullivan League. "Little Three League" refers to the small village league that included Goshen, Walden, and Warwick. Let's go through the list alphabetically and by divisional class.

    Kingston - 12 DUSO Championships, 1 Class AA Championship ... Middletown - 14 DUSO, 2 Class A ... Monroe-Woodbury - 6 OCL, 7 Class AA, 2 Class A ... Newburgh - 17 DUSO, 5 Class AA ... Pine Bush - 2 UCAL, 2 Class A.

    FDR - N/A ... Minisink Valley - 2 OCL, 1 Class A ... Valley Central - 1 OCL (formerly "Walden" which won 1 OCL and an estimated 13 Little Three League) ... Warwick - 10 Little Three League, 8 OCL, 2 Class A, 1 Class B ... Washingtonville - 1 OCL.

    Cornwall - 3 OCL, 5 Class A ... Goshen - Estimated 15 Little Three League, 7 OCL, 1 Class B ... Port Jervis - 10 DUSO, 10 OCL, 4 Class A, 1 Class B ... Rondout Valley - 5 UCAL, 2 MHAL, 1 Class A, 4 Class B ... Saugerties - 1 MHAL, 1 Class B ... Wallkill - 3 UCAL, 1 Class A.

    Burke Catholic - 1 Class B ... Highland - 4 UCAL, 1 Class B, 6 Class C ... Marlboro - 1 UCAL, 3 MHAL ... New Paltz - 5 UCAL, 1 MHAL, 2 Class B ...O'Neill - 1 Class B, 2 Class C (formerly "Highland Falls" which won 3 OCL) ... Onteora - 4 UCAL, 2 MHAL, 2 Class B.

    Ellenville - 1 UCAL, 2 MHAL, 2 Class C ... Liberty - 2 UCAL, 1 WSL, 1 Class C ... Millbrook - 2 Class D ... Pine Plains - N/A ... Spackenkill - N/A ... Sullivan West - 2 Class B, 2 Class C (formerly "Delaware Valley" which won 7 Class D) ... Tri-Valley - 6 WSL, 2 Class C, 2 Class D.

Chester - 4 Class D, Eldred - 2 Class D ... Livingston Manor/Roscoe - Won 3 Class D between the two schools prior to the union, won 12 WSL prior to the union.
