RICK RANKS THE SNF TEAMS GOING INTO WEEK FOUR
MW DB Anthony Cardone lighter moment

You’ll see the same ten schools listed here this week but there are some changes in position:

LARGE SCHOOLS (CLASSES AA and A)

1. MONROE-WOODBURY (3-0) - Crusader fans got quite a scare when Danny Scalo limped off the field last Thursday night. Now they know how opponents’ fans feel when they see the Purple Cru take the field. Next is Kingston.

2. WARWICK (3-0) - The Wildcats had little trouble with talented Kingston, a fellow spread team, last week. Now things get real serious as division play opens at Valley Central.

3. NEWBURGH (2-1) - Turnovers killed the Goldbacks last week at M-W. This week the ‘Backs shouldn’t be as charitable against defending A champ Cornwall.

4. CORNWALL (2-1) - The young Dragons are coming of age quickly. They’ll have nothing to lose in facing powerful Newburgh this Friday - and everything to gain with a strong showing. Of course Cornwall is looking for more than just a “good showing.”

5. KINGSTON (2-1) - The Tigers had #2 Warwick last week. Now they play host to #1 M-W. Double-yikes.

6. VALLEY CENTRAL (2-1) - With Big Mac back under center last week, the Vikings rolled over division foe FDR. This week they meet White and Babin, Inc.

7. PINE BUSH (2-1) - Wallkill will give the Bushmen a good tune-up for the important Kingston clash that follows.

8. MINISINK VALLEY (1-2) - After being shut out by M-W and NFA, the Warriors regrouped to topple Washingtonville in a divisional matchup.

9. WALLKILL (2-1) - Expected to have it easy with Goshen, the Panthers pulled had to claw a bit to scratch out a hard-fought 15-10 victory. Now Wallkill faces the powerful ground game of AA Pine Bush.

10. SAUGERTIES (2-1) - The Sawyers gave it a shot, but Cornwall was too quick. AA-II Washingtonville will challenge the Sawyers next.

SMALL SCHOOLS (CLASSES B-C-D)

We’ve got some changes here. Let’s see if the top dogs (devils and yellow jackets) can keep their lofty perches.

1. HIGHLAND (3-0) - The Huskies returned to their defensive roots last week in shutting out O’Neill’s potent offense, 12-0. This weekend Highland has an unwanted bye while independent B Onteora faces Dobbs Ferry which would have been a nice opponent for the Big Dogs.

2. SULLIVAN WEST (3-0) - These Big Dawgz took care of business by besting tough Millbrook by four TD. This weekend it’s another Class C showdown …

3. ELLENVILLE (3-0) - … Yep, the Blue Devils play host to the Bulldogs Friday night in another Class C showdown, this one between last year’s C finalists. Last week defending champ Ellenville had no problems with Spackenkill, winning 34-6.

4. ELDRED (3-0) - That the Yellow Jackets mean business this season was exemplified in last week‘s big win over Class C Liberty. Next they play Class B Spackenkill. Let’s see if they can hold onto this spot.

5. MILLBROOK (2-1) - The Blazers must shake off last week’s loss and look for a good performance against rejuvenated Class B Marlboro.

6. O’NEILL (1-2) - The Raiders need to get healthy fast against struggling New Paltz. A Class B victory here is a necessity.

7. MARLBORO (1-2) - The Dukes are back on the road and get Millbrook this week in a big non-league game for each squad.

8. BURKE CATHOLIC (1-2) - The Eagles flew into a big trap (game) last week and lost to pumped-up Marlboro which showed off its new field and lights. This week Burke has a big non-leaguer as it travels less than a mile to play Class A Goshen on the gridiron for the very first time. Gustafson Field will be jumpin’.

9. CHESTER (1-2) - Oh, those interceptions. The Hambletonians lost to Section One’s perennial D power, Tuckahoe, 26-6 last week. They’ll look to rebound against LMR in a non-leaguer. Coach Ron Stover knows his kids can’t just show up to defeat the Devilcats this year.
