COACH’S KUDOS: “We played a good game. They (Spackenkill) scored two late TD's on our second defense. Our o-line and d-line played awesome! (DE) Cory Bilyeu’s return to the d-line made it even tougher.” --- Sean Keenan, Millbrook head coach. INSIDE INFO: (1) Disappointed by the team's lackluster performance in its week one 7-6 loss to Saugerties, the Port Jervis coaching staff decided to go live during practice and hit - hit - hit to get ready for Middletown. That probably hadn't been done since the legendary Al Chase roamed the practice field at Port. Seriously, full-contact practices are always a bit of a gamble; but our insider told us, "Port was a team with a purpose Friday" and credited the week of hard practice. Consequently, the Red Raiders regained possession of the Erie Bell. This week PJ will be idle since it had been scheduled to play at Rondout Valley which canned its varsity season. ... (2) Valley Central quarterback Shane MacNamara hurt his shoulder in the first half against Wallkill in week one and missed the Kingston game. Macnamara's coach, Ron Introini, says that Big Mac will be back this Friday when the Vikings travel to FDR to open their AA-II season. ... (3) The odds are decent that Monroe-Woodbury will be the #1 Class AA team when the NYSSWA announces its first round of state rankings this week. NOTE TO NFA GRADS AND FANS: A reunion is being held for all former Goldback football players at Homecoming 2009 during the weekend of October 16-17. A tailgate party, reception and cookout/BBQ are all planned. Please contact Tony Galietta at tgalietta@ordner.com or by calling (678) 478-6750 for further details.EXTRA POINTS (from long-time correspondent Rich Michaelis): "(1) Colgate won 23-13 Saturday. Former M-W all-state QB Greg Sullivan's passing line was 12 x 23 x 148. He also had 18 carries for 113 yards. Greg now over 1,000 career passing yards. Saturday he threw for TD’s of 37 and 35 yards. (2) Dundee of Section Five has opened the season with wins by the scores of 71-0 and 70-8. Last year they won a game 89-6. But they always get conked in the regionals. (3) Auburn (remember them) and Central Square had a basketball-type score with Auburn winning, 74-32. Plus Victor beat Greece Arcadia, 11-9! That’s a new score for me." |
