Saturday Games (Faller Field, Middletown)

RICH ARNOTT'S NICKEL AND DIME SNF RANKINGS AFTER WEEK ELEVEN

Class AA/A

1) CORNWALL - The Dragons take over our top spot after a commanding performance against John Jay Cross-River, beating the Section One Class A king by three touchdowns on Friday night. Old Section Two nemesis Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake will try to prevent Cornwall from reaching the Syracuse Carrier Dome. BH-BL ended the Dragons season in this state semifinal contest all three times they met (2009, 2011, 2012), but the Dragons are hoping the fourth time is the charm this Friday night at Faller ... 2) NEWBURGH - Five straight Class AA titles is a great accomplishment within the ranks of SNF, and this Goldback program gets better and better. New Rochelle is a monster and just had too much this time around ... 3) MONROE-WOODBURY ... 4) PINE BUSH ... 5) NEW PALTZ ... Dimeback) GOSHEN.

Class B/C

1) MARLBORO - Frustration through three quarters yielded to fourth quarter satisfaction for the Dukes, who rallied for a 27-19 win over Section One champion Ardsley. Marlboro can now admire the four Class B regional championship trophies it has won, but first must learn about Section Two opponent Glens Falls. The Dukes are 0-3 in state semifinals and this will be no Saturday afternoon piece of cake at Faller ... 2) O'NEILL ... 3) BURKE ... 4) CHESTER - With all said and done, the Hambletonians have acquired an SNF Class C title in the repertoire. The newest project is Dobbs Ferry, who defeated them in the regular season these past two years and ended this state tournament run. Think Chester will give up? ... 5) SPACKENKILL ... Dimeback) PORT JERVIS.

8-Man Commentary

Congratulations go out once again to QB Keegan Streimer and the Tri-Valley Bears upon completion of an outstanding journey into the world of 8-Man football. T-V accepted the idea of using this style and excelled to the tune of winning the league title and sectional championship honors. The Bears just missed making a late-game comeback against Section Four 8-Man champ Notre Dame-Elmira, dropping a close 38-36 contest in the state regional. The entire community of Grahamsville got behind the team and were rewarded with an amazing season.

CORNWALL BEATS JOHN JAY CROSS-RIVER TO WIN CLASS A STATE REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP - BURNT HILLS NEXT UP!

Friday Games

Cornwall 35, John Jay Cross-River 14 ... Notre Dame-Elmira 38, Tri-Valley 36.

BOO NA-NA MAKES HIS REGIONAL FORECAST

Boo went 5-0 in the SNF championship game picks but now the picture is slightly less clear against far and away opponents. He is 127-30 so far this season. "NEW ROCHELLE - These Huguenots know how to find the end zone so I would suggest that NFA moves it from Mahopac to another state. So if the coach wants to borrow my pick up truck ... CORNWALL - The Dragons have played a quality schedule this season to help go against the tough matchups that John Jay Cross-River has handled. Plus, I hear they're letting teams sign NFL free agents for the weekend ... MARLBORO - Ardsley is still a slight favorite in my humble opinion but I'd like to apply the SNF home-team discount with my savings card ... DOBBS FERRY - Chester does not want to fall behind right out of the starting gate because the Eagles will win by more than a nose ... NOTRE DAME-ELMIRA - Our 8-Man champion Tri-Valley team has nothing to lose and will hope that the Section Four Crusaders aren't distant cousins to our MW bunch down here."

RICH ARNOTT'S NICKEL AND DIME SNF RANKINGS AFTER WEEK TEN

Class AA/A

1) NEWBURGH - The Class AA five-peaters move on to the regionals where big dawg New Rochelle awaits across the Hudson at Mahopac. Get your popcorn ready! ... 2) CORNWALL -  The Dragons get through the SNF portion of their schedule unscathed. Now the Section One entity is John Jay Cross-River, who beat Rye by a touchdown to win their respective Class A championship. Along the way, JJ C-R handled quality programs like Somers and Our Lady of Lourdes ... 3) MONROE-WOODBURY - Another solid season for MW ends in the championship game. Next up is the era of little bro, Anthony Campione at QB ... 4) PINE BUSH - QB Haakon Meland rushed for 843 (7 TD) and Xavier Martinez toted the rock for 775 (11 TD) to complete their stellar Bushmen careers ... 5) NEW PALTZ - The Huguenots can go into 2019 with much more confidence at the Class A level thanks to their excellent playoff showing, great coaching, and some tough athletes ... Dimeback) GOSHEN - Some returning seniors along with QB Matt Giordano next season are WR/OLB Logan Mullane, WR/DB Elijah Price, and OL/DL Kevin Rudolph.

Class B/C

1) MARLBORO - With seven Class B championship teams this decade, the Dukes promise not to rest on their laurels. The Ardsley Panthers went 9-0 this season and knocked off Putnam Valley by five touchdowns in the Section One Class B final. This looks like a good Saturday night matchup at Dietz Stadium ... 2) O'NEILL - Senior James Tehui Matautia (928) and sophomore Hector Borgos (946) combined for 1,874 yards with 11 touchdowns apiece ... 3) BURKE - Senior Solomon Hemingway accrued 961 rushing yards to complement sophomore QB Jackson Hoovler's 1.074 through the air ... 4) CHESTER - Ron Stover won his 150th game as coach in the Class C title-winner, the first 29 of which came at Section One's Sleepy Hollow. Dobbs Ferry is in the way of the Hambletonians moving further into the state tournament ... 5) SPACKENKILL - Dhyquem Lewinson and Nasir Milligan were quite the backfield force for the Spartans this season, with each scoring a baker's dozen worth of touchdowns ... Dimeback) PORT JERVIS - Sometimes one year can make the difference with team chemistry and the Raiders hope to gel with offseason football work.

8-Man Commentary

Congratulations to Tri-Valley as they hold on to defeat Pine Plains/Rhinebeck to win the premier 8-Man Section Nine championship. The Bears advance to an intersectional clash against Section Four champ Notre Dame of Elmira. The Crusaders beat Lansing, 38-20, to guarantee their appearance this Friday night in Binghamton. Tri-Valley's only loss this year came at Pawling in overtime, but the Bears won a three-way divisional tie-breaker to get league honors.

RICH ARNOTT'S NICKEL AND DIME SNF RANKINGS AFTER WEEK NINE

Class AA/A

1) NEWBURGH - Bill Bianco has the multi-talented Goldbacks in the program's 18th Class AA final, looking for a fifth consecutive crown and 11th overall since the classification started in 1996. Opponent Monroe-Woodbury has also won it 10 times ... 2) CORNWALL - It's the Class A postseason and the Dragons mean business. After handily disposing of Minisink, 41-0, Eric Holzapple's charges try for eight straight sectional championships and a 14th in 16 seasons ... 3) MONROE-WOODBURY - The Crusaders and NFA Goldbacks will meet for the sixth straight time to decide the heavyweight champ. From 1998-2013, the Cru Crew took AA honors 10 times, including seven in a row from 2004-2010. MW last held the trophy in 2013 ... 4) PINE BUSH - The Bushmen could not keep up with MW this season, but there's no question they played the best teams that SNF had to offer in 2018 ... 5) NEW PALTZ - According to our records, Tom Tegeler earned his 100th coaching victory in the Class A semifinal win against Goshen. What a ride this season! NP lost three-of-four games to begin the season, but has rebounded to produce two playoff gems against Warwick and Goshen to set up a challenge agianst Cornwall in the final ... Dimeback) GOSHEN - The Gladiators had a wonderful season. The program earned the A-II championship, the school's first league title since 1994. Not only that, but the County-Seaters finally got by ancient rival Warwick for the first time since 2003. Also remember that QB Matt Giordano will return for his senior year, trying to add to the 2,518 passing yards and 27 TD passes he accumulated to pace SNF in 2018.

Class B/C

1) MARLBORO - "The decade of the Dukes?" Marlboro never won a sectional championship until 2011, when they began a run of five straight Class B titles and six-of-seven. Coach Brian Beck looks to add another in his first season at the helm, and O'Neill will play the adversary Friday night at Dietz Stadium ...  2) O'NEILL - The Raiders lost on opening night to Saugerties and it took the section quite a while to notice them after that. Coach John Catano got things squared away and O'Neill went on to beat Burke in the B-II showdown. Now, fresh off dispatching Port Jervis in the semis, the Highland Falls Gang gets an opportunity against top dog Marlboro for Class B glory ... 3) BURKE - The Eagles certainly did not duck any opponents in 2018, playing three Class A teams and the current Class B finalists. Where does it all lead going toward 2019? ... 4) CHESTER - Coach Ron Stover helped to formulate the program more than 15 years ago, and has made room for nine Class D trophies along with six state regional crowns. The Hambletonians would love to add a first Class C hardware memento to join those accolades in Chester's case ... 5) SPACKENKILL - The Spartans gave up a 20-point lead to Chester in the divisional contest. They get a second chance on Saturday afternoon at Faller Field in the Class C championship game ... Dimeback) - PORT JERVIS - The Raiders made a late-season surge to earn a spot in the Class B semifinals. The young players can use this season's experience to vault ahead toward better results when SNF resets in August.

8-Man Commentary

Tri-Valley put up a 72-spot on the Roosevelt HS scoreboard against Roscoe/Livingston Manor/Downsville to clinch an invitation to the inaugural 8-Man championship game. In the second game of the doubleheader, Pine Plains/Rhinebeck found out how difficult it is to defeat an opponent twice in one season, but got it done in an exciting 40-38 overtime victory against Pawling. The T-V Bears handed PP/RB its only setback of the season, 22-12, so we get a rematch this Saturday at Dietz Stadium for all eight marbles. Also in week nine we got to see Eldred complete the season with a three-game winning streak, lighting up the board with 54 points against Sullivan West. Last but not least, we send out our congratulations to Dominick Scanna and his Fallsburg Comets, who beat Dover for the team's first win since knocking off Livingston Manor in 2012 as an 11-man squad.

CHANDLER TOTH COMPLETES FANTASTIC VALLEY CENTRAL CAREER

Valley Central coach Ron introini reports that senior quarterback Chandler Toth has accumulated a grand total of 5,598 career passing yards and 58 touchdown passes through three seasons as field general of the Vikings offense. Both of these totals are Section Nine Class AA records, with the yardage count finishing second all-time to Cornwall graduate Mike White. The TD pass total registers as third greatest in SNF history after White and Chester alumnus Vinny Aloi, respectively. As a sophomore in 2016, Toth garnished his highest single-season yardage mark at 2,273 to go with 18 TD aerials. As a junior, the yardage count was 2,129 to go along with his best individual yearly TD pass mark of 24. Kenny Gray held the previous Valley Central career leads with 5,276 yards and 50 touchdown passes from 2013-15.

  EVELYN KIM BOOTS PAT

Warwick's Evelyn Kim successfully kicked a PAT on Thursday night during Valley Central's non-league victory. She is believed to be the first female place-kicker to do this in Section Nine since Melissa Geyer of Washingtonville made 17-of-20 extra points in 2003. See our website game summary from a Washingtonville at Warwick AA-II game from exactly 15 years ago to the day (posted the following day, 10/26/03), by clicking on our 2003 season link. Geyer made one more PAT the following Saturday in the Class AA semifinals.
