GREG MOYNAHAN ANNUAL HOME RUN DERBY RESULTS
GregMoynahan

Saturday August 15, 2009

The Greg Moynahan Annual Home Run Derby, held on August 15th, was an enormous success.

The Derby Winners were:

Age Group   Home Run Derby Winner
9-10 Year Old            Jack Huggins
11-12 Year Old  Ryan Gunther
13-14 Year Old  Jack O'Donoughe
15-16 Year Old  Jordan Jenkins
17+ Year Old  Matt Stewart

The Greg Moynahan Memorial Committee would like to thank everyone who came out in support of the Homerun Derby.  It was a great day that took a lot of hard work from a lot of people including the Scituate 14 year old District team helping to set up food and drink at the High School then breaking everything down at the end of the day.  They worked hard all day to keep everything moving.

At Greenbush Field the fathers and coaches help pitch while the kids enjoyed an endless supply of Double Bubble.  Jack Huggins impressively won the 9 and 10 year old age group and Ryan Gunther dominated in the 11 and 12 year old age group.

At Scituate High School, burger, hot dogs, sausages, popcorn and drink were consumed in ample supply and enjoyed by everyone.  Friend of Greg, their parents, and High School kids looking for community service hours all worked through the heat to make this event possible.

On the JV Field Jack O'Donoughe won the 13 and 14 year old age group putting the ball way over the fence.  Later in the day in the 15 and 16 year old age group, Jordan Jenkins and Chuckie Connors (Hingham) were in a battle that went to an impressive third round.  In the first round Connors hit 12 homruns, in the second he hit 15 and in the third he hit 9 homeruns.  Jenkins hit 13 in the first round, tied Connors with 15 in the second round, and with only two outs he was able to surpass Connors with 10 homeruns.

On the Varsity Field in the 17+ age group five people went into the finals.  Matt Stewart took the victory hitting an impressive 24 homeruns.

The Greg Moynahan Memorial Committee would like to thank everyone who made this day possible:  The Holly Family, The Hayden Family, PJ's Country House, The Satuit Bowlaway, Harbour House of Pizza, Boston Sword and Tuna, Levin Family Dentistry, Riva's, Belsan's Bait and Tackle, A-Script Career & Writing Services, Widows Walk, Scituate Country Club, Christina and Greg Cook, Jim Simpson, Kevin Dooley, Abby Kazlousky, Brian Greenberg, The Boston Red Sox, Maria's Pizza, Jack and Maureen Gill, JL Murphy, Bruce Beagley, Nancy Collins, Scituate 14A District Baseball Team, The Scituate Little League and all the parents and players who came out in support.

Scituate Little League Field Improvements
Delivering

In a continuing effort to provide the best playing environment for all the members of the Scituate Little League community, the league has been working in the off-season to improve and maintain the conditions of the Little League fields.

Since last summer the league hired contractors to rework the infield at Greenbush and top dressed the St. Mary’s field.  Because of the drought last fall, not all the desired steps were able to be accomplished, but you will see an improvement at both sites.

In addition, we will be using improved infield mix at Cudworth and Hatherly/Purple Dinosaur to avoid excessive weeds in the base paths.  We will continue to assess advances and needed improvements in these fields as the Spring rolls around.  The league is continuing to evaluate, recommend and make improvements in all the fields for the players and will continue to do so during the current year. Volunteers are always helpful as much of maintenance of the fields is an on-going process.

Scituate Little League voted to renew contracting a Field Coordinator, who has been responsible for keeping the fields in “best of class” condition.
