Positive Coaching Alliance Clinics

The Scituate Little League conducted its first Positive Coaching Alliance clinics for Coaches and Parents April 5th.

The clinics were a huge success with over 225 attendees including over 190 coaches.

The clinics covered being a Double Goal Coach and a Second Goal Parent, where the two goals are Winning and Learning Life Lessons, putting an emphasis on achieving success with a positive experience for all involved.

Thank you to the Scituate Police Department for sponsoring this event.

Here is some feedback by coaches and parents who attended:

“I really thought the program was exceptional, from the structure of the slides/ideas/concepts down to the presenter.  It was certainly timely and very thought provoking.”

 “GREAT WORKSHOP. Thank you.

“Thank you and the team for providing an excellent coaches workshop this past Sunday. Learning some new ideas, reinforcing some old ideals and beliefs will be quite beneficial  for any of the newer coaches, assistants and for  myself.”

“I was impressed by the level of commitment from the board. I believe this program will be a big success in the long run.  I also believe this culture will spread to some of the other programs in town.”

“Hats off and thanks to ... the board for putting together the coaches’ clinic yesterday. I thought it was useful and picked up a couple of pointers/new techniques to use this year....the speaker did a nice job with the presentation.”

2009 Little League Rule Changes
LL Logo

Little League Baseball has made some significant changes to the rules for the 2009 season for all divisions of baseball.  The major change is in the pitching rules for all ages:

Regular Season Pitching Regulations

What is changed: The rule increases the maximum number of pitches a pitcher could deliver, and then be permitted to become a catcher in that day; Provides a second option for required rest.

The manager must remove the pitcher when said pitcher reaches the limit for his/her age group as noted below, but the pitcher may remain in the game at another position:

League Age                 Pitch Limit
17-18                          105 pitches per day
13-16                            95 pitches per day
11-12                            85 pitches per day

9-10                            75 pitches per day

7-8                              50 pitches per day

A pitcher who delivers 41 or more pitches in a game cannot play the position of catcher for the remainder of that day.

Little League Baseball also has given the local leagues two options for number of days rest for pitchers.

SCITUATE LITTLE LEAGUE WILL BE ENFORCING OPTION 1.  PLEASE NOTE THERE IS A "GAME REST" IF THE PITCHER PITCHES OVER 40 PITCHES.

Prior to the start of the regular season the Scituate Little League Board of Directors must choose one of the following pitching rule options to be used by all teams in the league or a specific division during the regular season. NOTE: The local league Board (or leagues involved in interleague play) may select option 1 or option 2 but may not pick parts of option 1 and option 2 to make a local league rule.

Option 1: - Selected by Scituate Little League for 2009 Season
Pitchers league age 16 and under must adhere to the following rest requirements:

  • If a player pitches 61 or more pitches in a day, three (3) calendar days of rest and a game (see note below) must be observed.
  • If a player pitches 41 - 60 pitches in a day, two (2) calendar days of rest and a game (see note below) must be observed.
  • If a player pitches 21 - 40 pitches in a day, one (1) calendar days of rest must be observed.
  • If a player pitches 1-20 pitches in a day, no (0) calendar day of rest is required.

NOTE: A player may not pitch in consecutive games. Exception – League Age 16 and under - A player may pitch in consecutive games if 40 or less pitches were delivered in the previous game.

Scituate Little League has also voted to suspend the "Game Rest" requirement at the beginning of the Playoffs.  That means as long as pitcher has the required days rest per above, the player may pitch in the first playoff game without a game rest.

Scituate Little League Field Improvements
Delivering

In a continuing effort to provide the best playing environment for all the members of the Scituate Little League community, the league has been working in the off-season to improve and maintain the conditions of the Little League fields.

Since last summer the league hired contractors to rework the infield at Greenbush and top dressed the St. Mary’s field.  Because of the drought last fall, not all the desired steps were able to be accomplished, but you will see an improvement at both sites.

In addition, we will be using improved infield mix at Cudworth and Hatherly/Purple Dinosaur to avoid excessive weeds in the base paths.  We will continue to assess advances and needed improvements in these fields as the Spring rolls around.  The league is continuing to evaluate, recommend and make improvements in all the fields for the players and will continue to do so during the current year. Volunteers are always helpful as much of maintenance of the fields is an on-going process.

Scituate Little League voted to renew contracting a Field Coordinator, who has been responsible for keeping the fields in “best of class” condition.
