Half hearted Golcar offer little
Golcar (138 for 7) lost to Scholes (140 for 3) by 7 wickets
Scholes First’s travelled to Golcar expecting a stiff challenge from the team that lost the Premiership to Honley on the very last day of the season last September, but Ash Pamment’s men seemed to have one eye on the Sykes Cup semi-final the following day, and with four regulars also missing, they were never at the races as Scholes cantered to a six wicket victory. Once Mott had Whitwam caught at second slip by Khan for only 16 in the midst of an excellent 12 over spell, the stuffing was knocked out Golcar, and they soon slumped to 64 for 7, as the relentless Alsop skilfully secured another four victims. Ex Scholes stalwart Pamment dug in for the duration however, scoring 6 runs from his first 56 deliveries as several members of the crowd fell into a coma, but there was method in his doleful display of doughty defence, as he and the more enterprising Smith (35*) ensured another wicket didn’t fall and Golcar reached the utopian heights of 138 for 7 from their 50 overs, with Pamment undefeated on 42.
With the storm clouds gathering Scholes raced to 60 without loss off the first 14 overs, as Smith showed a welcome return to form with an enterprising 37, which was cut short by some wily umpire manouvering by the always competitive Jack Horner. Shahnawaz promoted for the slog lasted two balls, and when Noble was bowled for 25 by a Whitwam jaffer, Scholes hearts were slightly a fluttering. Khan and Latif survived a testing opening on a turning pitch, but soon accelerated to win the game for Scholes in the 27th over, with the former undefeated on 30 and the latter 37*.
Scholes easily beat Slaithwaite in the 20/20 cup on Tuesday night after posting a huge 240, and will play Kirkburton at home this Friday in the semi final. The final of the Under 15 Cup will also take place at Scholes this Sunday afternoon as they take on either Green Moor or Thongsbridge.
