Slaughter in the sunshine
Micklehurst (72 all out) lost to Scholes (73 for 1) by 9 wicketsAt least Saturday afternoon brought more glad tidings in the shape of another six point haul over hapless Micklehurst, to keep Scholes a healthy five points clear at the top of the Premiership. Sad to say that the devastating loss of two thirds of their first team due to financial difficulties looks like condemning Micklehurst to certain relegation, and it would be kinder to draw a veil over Scholes’ emphatic nine wicket win. The home side were dismissed for a paltry 72, with Blomely making a defiant 41, as they collapsed faster than the Labour party vote from 35 for 1, as the skilful Alsop conceded a mere 10 runs in his 15 overs and amassed another five victims, and Khan’s fine run with the ball continued as he took 4 for 8 in four overs of spin. Victory was achieved in the 18th over for the loss of Smith for 21, with skipper Noble undefeated on 30.
Scholes II’s also sit proudly at the top of the Premiership table following a resounding if somewhat hollow 225 run victory over a sadly depleted Micklehurst XI. It soon became clear that the visitors had roped in a few favours to field eleven men for this fixture, as mid off sent three texts and took two calls in the first ten overs of the Scholes innings, the last of which he answered when the bowler was in his delivery stride. Louis Sykes (78) was the only man to remain focused in the face of some awful bowling, although it should be said that Downend’s 4 for 34 in 11 overs was exceptional amongst the carnage, as Scholes were all out for 299 in the final over. The visitors soon plunged to 1 for 3 and ultimately fell for 74, as Josh Brook plundered 4 for 30 and new signing Floyd showed some pace and promise with his 2 for 10 off 4 overs.
