Santana Volleyball: Welcome
"The highest compliment that you can pay me is to say that I work hard every day, that I never dog it."
- Wayne Gretzky
In order to tryout for volleybal all girls must be cleared through the finance office, so go pick up your clearacne packets in the front office from Sandi King. Inside the packet there is a form for a sports physical. Physicals will be offered Saturday, June 1 at 8am in the dance room at Santana. Cost is $20 and all proceeds are donated back to Athletics.
Check out the events tab to view the summer workouts, which starts in June. Times and dates are subjected to change, so please check the website throughout the summer.
To participate in the summer workouts, all girls must have an AAU card. (If you were on the 14-Local team for New Horizons you do not need to purchase a new card and same with Ashley L; all the cards are up-to-date). Read below on how to obtain an AAU card.
- Go to https://play.aausports.org/summary.aspx
- Click on "Add an Athlete"
- Fill in the information asked (Club Code: WWY968; Choose the extended coverage for $16)
- After submitting the information, please either email the AAU card to karen.adams13@cox.net or print it out and bring it to the first open gym.
- All athletes must have the AAU card to participate, no exceptions!
Closer looks are developed to help the girls understand each specific position on the court and know what their job is. This is open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors only. The girls are to come to their specific position only. They are not allowed to come to every one. For example, if you are a setter you only come to the setter closer look; do not come to the outside hitter or defensive specialist closer looks.
They start right at 3pm, so please come early to set up the net and stretch.
The 4 C's are the most important pieces of advice that will help you throughout your playing days. In order to perfect technique and develop in skill level, the following reminders must be made a priority to make your volleyball career successful and to make you the best teammate you can be.
Competitiveness - A good way to work on your competitiveness in practice is to go for every ball. Go into practice with this mindset.
Coachability - Listen and give your undivided attention to your coach at all times. If you don't understand something, don't be afraid to ask. Make sure you are on time and prepared for all practices and competitions.
Concentration - Focus on what is at hand. If you are working on a skill, try to be aware of what your body is doing. If you are playing in a game, try to keep your focus in the present.
Communication - To become a good teammate and help not only you, but your teammates as well, you must talk. Talking creates energy and makes practices and competitions fun.
