Shetland Allstars Conclude A Terrific Season
The Santa Susana Shetland Allstars fell short in their semifinal matchup against the eventual World Series Champion Chino Hills team, 13-4. Manager Shawn Kaminkow reported that the Santa Su bats just didn't show up for this game, the boys' 10th game in 10 days. This was Santa Su's second Shetland World Series appearance in the three years since Pony started Shetland Allstar play. This is a remarkable achievement for the kids who are only 5 and 6 years old. We are very proud of you boys!

Shetland Wins Again, Advances To Final Four!
In a fine defensive effort, the Santa Susana Shetland Allstar team came back from a 5-0 deficit to defeat Pico Rivera 12-10 Sunday at the Shetland World Series being held in Chino Hills. Zach Kaminkow sparked the rally with a long homerun over the left field fence. The win guarantees that Santa Su will be one of four teams shooting it out for the Championship Monday night. The boys will play in a Semifinal game at 5:00pm Monday and, with a win, will play immediately afterward for the Championship. We'll be thinking about you guys tonight! Good luck!

Shetland Now 2-0 At World Series
The Santa Susana Shetland Allstar team defeated East Long Beach 18-16 Saturday to remain undefeated at the 2006 Shetland World Series in Chino Hills. In other action, Hart "A" was dealt their second loss to knock them out of contention for the title. West Hills, who beat Santa Su in the semifinal at the Region Tournament, also took a loss putting their record at 1-1. Only the top team of each of the four-team brackets will advance to single elimination play. With a victory over Pico Rivera tonight at 6:45pm, Santa Su will be assured of advancing to the final four. Good luck boys!

Shetland Comeback Falls Short - Play Today For World Series Berth
The Santa Susana Shetland Allstars, down 19-8 going into the bottom of the fourth, scored 11 runs to tie the semifinal game versus West Hills Monday. The big inning was highlighted by Zach Kaminkow's three run over-the-fence homer, his second of the game. West Hills came back to score 5 in the top of the final inning but Santa Su could only muster a single run in the bottom half falling 24-20 in a very exciting game at the Pony Region Tournament being held at Simi Youth. The boys will face off against Palmdale in a game to decide third place in the tournament and, more importantly, a berth to the 2006 Shetland World Series. Game time is 5:00pm, come out and support these great kids!!

Shetland Advances To Semifinals At Region!
The Santa Susana Shetland Allstar team swept a double header today at the Pony Region Tournament at Simi Youth advancing them to the semifinals tomorrow at 5:00pm. The boys will face off against West Hills, a rematch of the Section Championship game last week. In their first game yesterday, in sweltering heat on the artificial turf at Simi Youth, Santa Su defeated host Simi Youth 13-8 in a game that would eventually eliminate Simi Youth from contention for the championship. Later in the day, the boys lost to Hart "A", their only loss in the tournament. Today Santa Su defeated Newbury Park 16-6 in the morning game. By the time their 2:00pm game started, Santa Su knew that they could give up no more than two runs in order to win a tiebreaker against Simi Youth to decide who would advance to the semifinals. The boys came through defeating Lancaster 17-1, a difficult task in the Shetland division where the kids hit against the pitching of their own coach. Congratulations boys and good luck tomorrow!!

A Great Season For Pinto Allstars Comes To An End
The Santa Susana Pinto "A" Allstar team awoke this morning to find out that the help they needed, an Irvine victory over Palm Desert Friday evening, did not come to fruition, making today's final pool game their last of the season. Perhaps this news affected their performance as the boys were shellacked by the same Palm Desert team that ended their hopes the prior evening. The final score of 15-3 in 100+ degree temperatures and high humidity in no way tarnishes the fine season the kids had winning the North Valley Invitational, the Section Championship and finishing second at the Region Finals compiling a record of 11-4. Congratulations guys, we are so proud of you!

Pinto Allstars Need Help After Heartbreaker
The Santa Susana Pinto "A" Allstar team left it all on the field Friday but came up just short falling to Los Alamitos 6-5. With the game tied at three going into the sixth inning, Los Alamitos pushed across a run on a double by their star player Dominic Fletcher to make the score 4-3. With two outs and runners at second and third, a routine ground ball turned into big trouble when an overthrow to first base led to two more runs making the score 6-3 going into the bottom frame of the final inning. The boys were not about to give up without a fight. With Fletcher on the hill for Los Alamitos, Adrian Acosta led off the inning with a walk. This was followed by two strikeouts. Jake Zahorik came up and hit a 190 foot double to left center, scoring Acosta. Tyger Goslin then came up and lined a single to right center scoring Zahorik. Devin Myrick, representing the winning run walked. Anthony Acosta, the clean up hitter, came up and worked the count to 3-2. With the tying run at second and the winning run at first, the next pitch at the shins and off the plate must have been a perfect pitch as the Santa Su crowd was cheering the apparent walk to load the bases as the umpire rung up the strikeout for the final out of the game.

All hope is not lost! Los Alamitos will face their bitter rival Irvine Saturday at 5:00pm in their final pool game. If Irvine wins as expected tonight and can beat Los Alamitos on Saturday, and Santa Su wins their final pool game tomorrow, the bracket winner will be decided by fewest runs allowed by the three teams tied for the lead with 2-1 records. Santa Su has allowed 7 runs to Irvine and 6 runs to Los Alamitos for a total of 13. Los Alamitos allowed 7 runs to Palm Desert and 5 runs to Santa Su for a total of 12. Irvine allowed a total of 8 runs to Santa Su with two games to go. It seems like a silly way to determine a championship appearance, but it is what it is and the boys are not done competing! Let's go!

Santa Su Wins First Game At World Series
The Santa Susana Pinto "A" Allstar team pulled off a come from behind victory over South Region Champion Irvine 8-7 Thursday at the Pinto World Series in Garden Grove. Santa Su trailed 5-0 after two innings and trailed 7-5 going into the top of the final inning. In the top of the 6th, Cole Plutchak and Cole Nivens both drew walks to lead off the inning. Jake Zahorik followed with a 2 run double tying the game at 7-7. After advancing to 3rd base on a wild pitch, Zahorik scored on an errant throw of a fly ball by Tyger Goslin to put Santa Su ahead 8-7. In the bottom of the 6th, with Goslin pitching, Irvine had runners at 1st and 3rd with one out. With the infield in, Irvine's pinch hitter stroked a line drive to the right side which was caught by second baseman Cole Plutchak who threw to 1st base to double up the runner and ice the game for Santa Su. The boys will play Los Alamitos at 1:00pm tomorrow in a key pool game.
