LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL FIELD RENOVATION

San Juan Capistrano Will Have One of the Best Fields in Southern California

The San Juan Capistrano Little League is renovating one of its original fields that has hosted baseball games since its origin in 1952.  The field renovation work will include removing the existing grass and replacing it with new sod, replacing the infield with new infield mix, building a new pitcher's mound, installing a warning track around the perimeter of the field, resurfacing the pitcher's bullpens, and constructing a pad for a second batting cage.

The Little League is making improvements to another smaller field adjacent to the large field.  The improvements at this field will include a new outfield fence and re-seeding of the outfield. In addition to field renovation work, the Little League is making improvements in its player development program, which will benefit all of the players and coaches in the league.

The Little League field renovation work began on September 30 and is expected to be complete by the end of October.  The field will be ready for the spring Little League baseball season beginning February 2010.  "This is an exciting time in the San Juan Capistrano Little League. When the field is complete, our players will have the opportunity to play on one of the finest fields in Southern California", said Mike Morales, President of the San Juan Capistrano Little League.

The field renovation work has been made possible by many years of fundraising efforts by the San Juan Capistrano Little League families, key leadership from recent past Presidents - Ken Crane, John D'Ornellas & John Miles,  and generous contributions from local companies over the years.  Major contributions for the field renovation work being done now are coming from Dave Clark of Cuesta Construction, Mario Aroz of Alta Contracting, Valley Crest Landscape Company, Nash Elliott of Custom Landscaping, and Bill Barkshire of Barkshire Laser Leveling.

The Little League will continue its fundraising efforts to complete the construction of the batting cage, support its player development program, and offer additional benefits to the players in Little League.  "Strong community support remains a key component of our program.  If individuals or businesses are interested in sponsoring various elements of our program, they can get more information on our website", said Justin Crotty, Vice President of the San Juan Capistrano Little League.

Currently, registration is open for the San Juan Capistrano Little League.  The registration period closes on November 1st.  Registration for the spring season can be done on site at San Juan Capistrano Sports Park on October 10th from 10am to 2pm, at the "Old Majors" baseball facility in historic downtown San Juan Capistrano on October 24th from 10am to 2pm or on-line through the San Juan Capistrano Little League web site at www.sjcll.com .
