SALINE VOLLEYBALL CLUB

The SalineVBC is a non-profit organization and a registered club sports program affiliated with USA Volleyball, the Amateur Athlete Union, and the Michigan Junior Volleyball Association.  The primary mission is to promote competitive youth volleyball in Saline.

OBJECTIVES for USAV/AAU teams:

1.      Provide girls who attend Saline Schools the opportunity to participate in a travel and tournament quality competitive volleyball program at a reasonable cost and value when compared to other local clubs.

v     Cost includes five-six regular tournaments plus the State Championships during the period from February to early June. Tournaments are all day Saturday or Sunday affairs. Two home tournaments are scheduled each season.

v     Age divisions are 12U, 13U, 14U, 15U, 16U, 17U, 18U.   v      The Club will offer one team practice from January through February and two team practices in March-May. Teams normally consist of 10 to 12 players.

2.      Provide multi-activity girls who play spring school or travel sports with the opportunity to maintain their volleyball skills and not fall behind their classmates who only play volleyball. The Club agrees that school athletics participation takes precedence over club activities.  The Club believes the commitment to volleyball should be relatively equal to that of other travel sports or activities.

3.      Provide a feeder program of skilled volleyball players for the high school volleyball program.  AAU/USAV volleyball experience helps prepare players for school team tryouts.

REGISTRATION:  Players should bring a completed registration form to tryouts. Registration forms will be available at the Community Ed office, Saline Rec Center, or downloaded at www.eteamz.com/SalineVBC.

TRYOUTS2010 Tryouts/Team Placements are scheduled for Sunday, November 22nd.  The Club is open to residents of the Saline School district. Ability shown during tryouts, Community Ed Youth Fall Leagues, the Saline Recreation Center 4 on 4 League, and the Middle School seasons are used to place players. Those observations plus attitude, schedule availability, & player positions are criteria used by the evaluating coaches. In a policy change: for girls 13’s and older, registration does not guarantee a place on any team.

COMMITMENT:  AAU/USAV practices begin in January and tournaments begin in February/March and run all day on Saturdays or Sundays. Players are expected to attend practices and play a minimum number of tournaments to be determined by the coach. Tournament locations can be throughout Michigan, including but not limited to:  Ann Arbor, Battle Creek, Dearborn, Grand Rapids, Mt Morris.  Two local hometown Saline tournaments are planned.  The two day AAU State Championships are in Grand Rapids. The 12 and under “States” are a one day affair at UM Dearborn.

COST:  Fees are $350 to $450.  ($575 & $775 for teams that attend a National event.)  Fees include registration, gym costs, administration fee, tournament entry fees, coach’s fee, game t-shirts, etc.  Additional hotel costs may be incurred during state championship weekend.

COACHES:  The club policy is to use experienced, paid coaches, some of which are qualified parents.  The club is dependent on volunteerism.
