Friday, June 27 Summer Lacrosse Camp Info Choosing the best lacrosse camp can be tricky and a little overwhelming. This page will be used to allow parents/players to provide feedback on the camps they attended. You need to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the Camp you are getting ready to shell out anywhere from $450 to $650 dollars on. Generally speaking, having attended a variety of DI and DIII camps, the key areas you should be focusing on are the quality of coaching, the quality of the living environment (lodging / eating), and the type of instruction that your camper is looking for. For example - if you are looking for specific Goalie instruction, then you wouldn't get much out of a general summer lacrosse camp. You'd want to attend a specific Goalie instruction Camp such as Bill Pilat's Goalie School. If we collectively were looking for a team camp - to teach a greater number of players how to work with each other to gain the best insight on how to work as a team, then there are specific camps for that as well. Here's a sample of feedback I'd be looking for on the camps: We tried a DIII Camp in Maryland at Washington College. This school produces a top 10 DIII Men's Lacrosse program, and is in a very nice setting on the eastern Shore of Maryland. The Camp itself was poorly organized. The instuction was typically led by the Washington College players or other local college players who were young, and in some cases not particularly good role models. The actual coaching staff from the team had brief and rare encounters with the campers. The daily activities were poorly organized and I don't believe my boys received any valuable instruction at all. They campers were lodged in dorms that were not air conditioned (it was July ~ 95 degrees) and the rooms were in fairly shabby condition. The food was plentiful, but fairly poor quality and the kids tended to eat chicken nuggets or pizza for nearly every meal. The bathrooms were poorly maintained and were in very bad shape after a few days with un-supervised boys. I would say that it was a fun, goofy environment for them - but they learned very little overall. Two thumbs down - a waste of 550.00. Grandma/Grandpa Washington didn't get their money's worth.
