Recreation Update Nov 15, 2009

As we are only one month away from seeing 2009 end, so much has happened in recreation this year.  We have seen all of the programs grow, many teams take part in travel play, U10 girls won the championship, many make it to the final four in Soccer and football (finals not yet determined when this was written), and the purchase of new equipment for most of the programs.  This year Soccer has purchased 4 new state of the goals, Basketball has 4 new table top scoreboards, Track has brand new uniforms for 2010, Babe Ruth has a brand new pitching machine for 2010, and rec cheerleading has new uniforms for 2010 and new mats via a donation from VFW.   Other programs will be looking to enhance their equipment in 2010, like softball, football, wrestling and lacrosse.   It is an exciting time to be in recreation football.

Recreation is moving towards enhancing itself overall too.  Kickball was a huge success and we look forward to its second year. I am currently investigating a Summer recreation program for all Saddle Brook resident children to take part in.  Thinking of offering many different events to help raise money for our Recreatoin Center, like a ski trip or Casino night, etc....  We are also investigating a Theater group for children.  This is a great avenue for children to become a part of a group with out the stress of sport competition and open up their creativity.  Of course, we are also looking forward to start work in the new recreation center.  Final drawings look to be done and now its up to the engineers to get us thru the next step.  We really hope we have your support on this one. It is something we need for our children.

In 2010, we will have an even better FIELD OF HORRORS event and Trunk or Treat event.  This was so successful that one has to wonder how it will be topped next Halloween season. I can assure you that I have heard the organizers talking and it will be different, bigger, and better than this year if you can imagine that.

Well, I hope you are all on board with what recreation has to offer our youth.  This has been a great year for me and a learning one too.  There were things we did right and some that may have been wrong, but overall I think its been pretty positive.  Recreation is about the kids and will ALWAYS be about the kids.  I look to them for insight and ideas on what we can do to better the program.  Their ideas and thoughts are different from us as parents.  Their interest may not be the same as ours, which doesn't make it wrong all the time.  They wanted Kickball and we delivered.  That was a great time we had this summer.  I am looking to get feedback from them on future items too.  I will be meeting the commissioners to review their programs this week and next individually to see what we have to do to improve their programs.  Tell your children to give them some feedback on what you thought and hopefully we can come thru for you.

As always, you can email me at anytime with questions or ideas at sbjrlacrosse@hotmail.com .  Also WE NEED VOLUNTEERS to make it all happen.  Contact me if there is something you think Recreation can do and how you can help with it.  Don't just sit on the side and say this should be done or that should be done.  Come and be a part of your children's recreation life and volunteer.  That is what make it successful.

Field of Horrors - The COMMUNITY BECAME ONE !!!!!!!!!!!!

Just wanted to thank everyone who came down and particpated in our "Field of Horrors" event and "Trunk or Treat" Event. We made alot of money for our Recreation Center with your generosity!!! The whole thing started on a warm July evening  with the first meeting regarding the event and the building of  the structures began right after Labor day. I am very grateful  to everyone who worked it that made it successful. Thank you  to Lou D'Arminio for allowing us to put an event like this  together and all his help to make sure this went off without a  hitch. A special Thanks to Sean Miller, The entire Ebel
family, The entire Nasello family, Rob Digiovanni, Fran O'Brien, The entire Pallota family, Tom Iadarola, and Lori Rauth. They all went well above the norm for volunteering time to make this
event huge. They were there every weekend and most nights doing the building, painting, and preparing the maze for your enjoyment. So Many have Thanked me, but its not me who made
this happen, it was this group. What an amazing job they did. Please say Thanks to them when you see them if you enjoyed the experience.

There are so many people to say Thank you to and I apologize for not listing everyone. When you have 50-60 people helping every night, it is hard to list everyone.

I don't know about you, but I really felt a huge sense of "Community" these past few days. With all of the stuff that is happening in the world now, it was nice to just forget about all of it for a few days. Saddle Brook came together to make something special. It seems like its been a long time since that has occured. I stood and watched all come in expecting to have fun, and then watched as they left saying it was "beyond what they expected" or "this was amazing". There was no bickering, no issues, no rumor discussions,etc.... It was all about what was happening at the moment and how ths was just the start of us being a stronger community.

THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF IT!!!!!!!
