Welcome to Learn to Skate for Hockey!
("LTSH", for short)
This is the very beginner program for young children intersted in playing hockey, but with no prior experience. The recommended age for this program is 4-6 years old. This program is designed to develop a solid foundation of skating ability and basic stick-handling in a fun and exciting atmosphere. Learn the basics of skating, including:
While there are no prior skills required, it is always helpful to the children to have had some prior experience on the ice, so that they are more comfortable during the beginning sessions and can participate more enjoyably in the exercises and activities throughout the program. There is a limited quantity of FREE loaner equipment available for your use while participating in the Learn to Skate for Hockey program, including helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, shin guards, pants, hockey socks, AND jersey. You are responsible for providing your child's own skates, mouthguard, stick, and sport jock. Equipment will be distributed during the weekend of October 17th - more details available soon. There will be an introductory session and Open House on October 25th, 2009, from 10:00-11:30am, at the Schenectady County Recreational Facility. You can meet the instructors, ask questions, and players and family can skate for free!(No equipment is required, however young or inexperienced skaters should wear any sort of helmet). Free popcorn for the kids! There will also be a brief orientation meeting at 11am in the lobby for any parents wishing to help out on the ice during the season. No prior coaching or hockey experience is required. The 2009 session will begin on Friday, November 6th and runs for 17 sessions through March 12th. Classes will meet on Fridays 6:00-7:00pm at the Schenectady County Recreational Facility. Online registration will be open in mid-September.
