The SYA Copperheads are a U17 premier travel team representing the Southwestern Youth Association (SYA) based in Centreville, VA. In addition to a demanding National Capital Soccer League (NCSL) Division 1 Fall schedule, in which the Copperheads finished third, we also placed second in the 2008 U17 Boys Virginia State Cup. The Copperheads continue our tough schedule this Fall and Winter, competing in some of the nation's top college showcase tournaments. On the schedule is CASL, PA Classic and Tampa Sun Bowl College Showcase Tournaments, as well as winter league play in Columbia, MD.
The Copperheads play a highly-competitive, attractive style of soccer, while encouraging creativity and self-expression. Our program has a heavy focus on preparing our players to compete with top NCAA Division 1 soccer teams. The team is professionally trained and coached by Irving and Michael Williams. Each coach has over 30 years of playing and coaching experience at the youth, collegiate, and professional levels. The coaches are committed to develop players for ODP, high school, college, and beyond in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Our club, Southwestern Youth Association (SYA), is unique in our development of players and teams, reproducing systems used in European Premier Clubs. modeled after the premier clubs in Europe. Players are exposed to top level training throughout all ages, with an ultimate goal of producing top players who peak at older ages, not just creating strong athletic teams at younger ages. Many former SYA players are members of college programs are all levels, as well as participants of US Women's and Men's National Team programs.
