SYA-Bombers compete in the Hunt Country Classic.

The SYA-Bombers took the pitch this past weekend in the Hunt Country Classic Tournament in Warrenton VA. The Bombers selected to play in the Premiere division instead of the lower Classic division where most of the teams they played this season were playing. This meant that they were competing against a field of all higher ranked WAGS teams and their skills would be put to the test.
The first game on Saturday was an early morning game against ASC Radical. The game opened up with the Bombers pressing Radical hard for a score. It did not take long for the team’s efforts to be rewarded. Monica drove up the left side and passed to Dominique who dribbled cross the goal at about the 6 meter line before stopping about midway before cranking the ball back to the far left corner in a shot that left the goalie rooted in her tracks. The game became a game of control with neither team able to capitalize and score. There were two tense moments for the Bombers when hand ball penalties were called inside the box which allowed Radical to take penalty kicks. Both kicks were stopped by some superb play by the Bomber goalie Stephanie who was able to stop both shots with some heads up play. The game ended with the Bombers winning 1-0. The entire team played very well and kept the Radical at bay.
The second game of the day was an interleague game against SYA Inferno. The game was sure to be hard fought as the Bombers wanted to show their sister team that they were no pushovers. The Inferno opened the game by pressing hard and making a big effort to score any early goal. The Bombers held their own and regained their composure and started to push back on the Inferno. The game was a well fought match with the Bombers unable to take advantage of the breakaways and score. However the Inferno were able to get two lucky bounces and the game ended a 2-0 win for the Inferno.
Early Sunday morning had the Bombers playing the FASA Impact team. The game opened up with the Impact pressing hard. The Bombers had a few breakaways and held their own for the first half that ended 1-0 for the Impact. The second half was harder for the Bombers as the Impact were able to score three more times to bring the game to a 4-0 score at the end of the game. The Bombers played very well and fell to an experienced team.
The second game of the day and final game of the tournament was against the 1st place Blackwatch team. The Blackwatch team shutout the FASA Impact as well as the SYA Inferno, and beat ASC Radical 3-1. The Bombers opened up the game well and kept the Blackwatch honest and pressed them as hard as they were being pressed. The first goal of the game happened about half way into the first half when Megan dribbled up the side and passed the ball forward to Madeline. Madeline turned on the speed and dribbled straight up the middle passing the closing defenders and shot a scorcher of a kick past the goalie for the score. The Bombers had little time to rest as the Blackwatch came back and kept the Bombers on their side of the field. The Blackwatch were able to capitalize on a stolen goal kick to even the score at 1-1 at the half. The second half was a harder fight for the Bombers as the Blackwatch turned up the heat and kept the Bombers on their toes for the entire second half. They were able to score on some well placed long shots that brought the final score to 4-1 for the Blackwatch.
The Bombers played very well all weekend long and have nothing to be ashamed of. They were playing higher ranked and more seasoned teams and they held their own. The entire team played well and from a foot skills stand point were the equal of any of the players they faced.

SYA-Bombers defeat #1 McLean MPS 96 Challengers Gold to end the season!

The SYA-Bombers played their best game all season and defeated the McLean MPS 96 Gold team in an away game to finish up the Fall 2007 season with a bang. The bombers took on the #1 team in a game that was a must win for both teams.
The Bombers held their own in the first half and held off a hard charging McLean team. McLean pressed hard and were able to switch out most of their team in an attempt to wear down the Bombers. The Bombers played great defense and prevented McLean from scoring. The half ended with a 0-0 tie.
The second half was a different story. The Bombers were able to utilize their skills and keep the ball on the McLean half of the field most of the time. Monica, Michaela, and Madeline played great game up front and pressed McLean hard with many hard drives up the field supported by some great footwork and passing by Trisha, Briana, Lindsey and Mattison. About half way into the second period, Megan cleared a ball from deep in Bomber territory right down the middle, Dominique drove the ball straight up the middle with 2 McLean defenders closing fast. Dominique took her shot straight up the middle and shot past the goalie for the games first and only score.
After the Bombers scored McLean pressed hard to score and the ball spent most of the time on the Bomber half. The bombers were able to hold them off with some superb work from Stephanie, who was able to make a few great saves as goalie. The final minutes were spent infront of the Bomber goal with McLean trying hard to tie the game. The game was saved in these final minutes as the entire Bomber defense rose to the challenge, lead by some great clearing kicks by Emma and great work infront of the goal by Noelle.
The win by the Bombers moved them from 8th place to 6th place and moved McLean down from 1st place to 2nd place in the end of the season results. The win did much to instill confidence in the Bombers for their upcomming tournament and showed the league that the new Bombers team was a force to be respected.

SYA-Bombers win at home against ALEX Lightning!

The Bombers took the pitch at a chilly Kincheloe field to take on the ALEX Lightning in the seventh game of the fall 2007 season. The two teams were evenly matched and for the first half the battled back and forth but neither team was able to score before the half was called. The second half went much better for the Bombers and they were able to break away numerous times in an attempt to score only to have the play called back in what can only be described as a very close offsides call. Lightning responded with a drive of their own and a high shot on goal that was a sure score until the goalie Stephanie made a great save and was able to just get her gloves on the ball and push it over the goal. The Bombers responded shortly afterwards with a centering shot that Emma was able to get a shot on goal with that was blocked by a defender towards Monica who was then able to drill the ball into the net scoring the games winning and only goal. The Bombers were able to hold off the Lightning by keeping the pressure up and the ball on their half until the game was called. Both teams played a good game and the Bombers continued to show the desire to win and the skills they have been working on all season.

SYA-Bombers hold tough to a 0-0 tie in Sunday's game.
The SYA-Bombers returned home on Sunday to face the FCSC Blackwatch at Kincheloe field. The Bombers came out strong and kept the ball at the opponents end of the field for most of the first half but were unable to capitalize by the time the half was called. The second half was more fluid with the ball spending equal time on each end of the field. The Bombers had a few breakaway runs toward the opponents goal but a good defense prevented a goal. The game ended with a Bomber corner kick that was high and infront of the goal. A Bomber headed the ball towards the goal but the ball just flew over as the whistle was sounded. The Bombers played well with a renewed vigor and desire to win.

SYA-Bombers come up empty in their first away game.
The SYA-Bombers took the pitch against the Herndon Power on Sunday for their first away game of the season. The SYA-Bombers could not seem to get their game going and from the start things did not go well. The Herndon Power were able to capitalize in the early part of the first half and scored two quick goals. These two quick goals set the tone for the rest of the game. The Bombers were able to hold them off until just before the end of the half when the Power brought the game to 3-0. The second half went much like the first with the Power scoring on a fluke penalty kick and a last minute goal brought the game to and end with the Power winning 5-0 and the SYA-Bombers stiffing there resolve to work harder this next week in practice.

SYA-Bombers get their first win of the season!

The SYA-Bombers recorded their first win of the season with a win over CYA Galaxy. The teams were well matched and the game hung in the ballance for the entire 60 minutes. The bombers pressed the Galaxy the entire game and scored the games only point around the middle of the first half. Dominique centered the ball from the right side to Emma, who was well covered she then passed to Stephanie, who was able to fire a shot past the goal keeper, for an impressive team effort. The Bombers were able to hold off the Galaxy for the rest of the game.
The entire team played well with everyone doing their part. Madeline, Emma, Mattison, and Noelle all played a solid game up front as strikers and kept the pressure on the Galaxy. Lindsey, Stephanie, Michaela, and Trisha held the middle ground and used their skills to keep the ball on the Galaxies half of the field. Dominique and Briana held up the backfield with Meagan anchoring the field from the centerback position. Monica had and impressive game holding down the goalkeeper position and made four or five critical saves that could have easily turned the tide in the game.
Overall it was an exciting game with all the girls playing their heart out and never giving up.

SYA-Bombers start off the new season.
The SYA-Bombers started off the new fall '07 season with a game on sunday against the ARL Dynamo. The game was played under a hot September sun at Field of Dreams and both teams looked forward to the start of the new season.
Shortly after the start of the game ARL Dynamo was the first to score with a centering kick from the right. They were able to follow that score up with another off a stolen goal kick to bring the score to 2-0 halfway into the first half. Just as the first half was ending the Bombers were able to score off a long shot from Emma who took a feed from Mattison. This brought the score to 2-1 at half time. The second half was well contested with numerous goal attempts that were just outside the goal from both sides. However just before the final whistle, Dynamo was able to increase their lead to 3-1 with another well centered pass and shot on goal.
The SYA-Bombers started the season off with a heartbreaking loss and the hopes of a better second game this comming sunday.

The team faced the Herndon power in their first match on Saturday, and played well to a 1-1 tie when the final whistle blew. The second match was against the VYS Hurricanes. The Bombers played well in the brutal heat of the day but ended up falling 3-0 to the team that went undefeated in the tournament. The third and final match was on Sunday against BRYC Fusion. The Fusion took a 2-0 lead before the Bombers scored on a well shot penalty kick. The Bombers were the next to score off a corner kick bringing the score to a 2-2 tie. As the final minutes were ticking down the Fusion scored a third goal to cap off a hard fought match.
The SYA-Bombers played well in their first tournament and showed some of the foot work and skills that they had been working on all summer.
