The Iowa SWAT 12U Ladies took to the fields at Prairie Ridge Sports Complex in Ankeny Iowa to compete in the I-Club Summerfest Tournament July 10th-12th.  The Tournament is traditionally held in conjunction with the annual summer festival held in Ankeny.

The Ladies played outstanding softball on Championship Sunday.  On the road to victory, SWAT played five consecutive games, back to back, in claiming the Championship.  The first game of the day was a pool play game against a combined team from Ottumwa between the Elite and Diamond Dawgs programs.  After going down 4-1, SWAT battled back to a 4-4 tie in the last inning.  The game would end that way as the Tournament moved to bracket play.  SWAT entered the field as the No. 8 seed of the 14 teams playing.   SWAT made quick order of Johnston Purple, 7-0.  They then faced the No. 1 seed Ames Cyclones.  SWAT got the bats going and got good pitching.  SWAT beat Ames 5-2 to move to the semi-final.  There, Frozen Ropes Fury out of Omaha Neb. awaited SWAT.  SWAT got out to an early 4-0 lead and held on for the victory 4-1.  In the Championship game Iowa SWAT met up with the Ottumwa Team again.  SWAT got out to a commanding 4-1 lead.  In the final at bat, Ottumwa loaded the bases with two outs and down 4-2.  SWAT made a bang, bang force out at 1st to end the game and claim the Championship !!!  SWAT played error free softball in the final two games and were paced by a combined no-hit pitching effort from April Walker and Bryce Holmgren in the Championship Game.  GREAT, GREAT JOB LADIES!!!!!  The Championship was well deserved !!

Iowa SWAT 12U now looks forward to the highly anticipated USSSA 12U B WORLD SERIES IN Kansas City, MO. July 20-26th.

Hope to see you in KC !!!

IOWA SWAT 12U TAKES RUNNER-UP IN THE "A" BRACKET OF THE URBANDALE 4TH OF JULY CLASSIC !!.......

The Iowa SWAT 12U Ladies took to the fields of Urbandale over the 4th of July Holiday weekend to compete in the traditional Holiday Tournament.  SWAT 12U went a perfect 4-0 in pool play, with victories over Johnston Gold, WDM Panthers Orange, ADM and Urbandale Red.  They entered the "A" Bracket as the No. 2 seed.  In the semi-final SWAT really brought their bats and defeated Johnston Gold by run rule in the 5th inning, 11-3.  The game featured alot of highlights, capped off by a two run, out of the park homerun, hit by April Walker.

In the Championship Game SWAT matched up with the No. 1 seed, WDM Panthers Black.  The game was very tight throughout, with alot of tense moments and great softball plays from both teams.  In the bottom of the 6th, the Panthers had the winning run on 3rd base with two outs. A hard hit grounder was hit up the middle and richocheted off of April Walker's leg and into the hole at Shortstop.  Alaina Glenn had to change direction and made a great effort getting to the ball and throwing to first, however the throw was late and the Panthers pushed the runner from 3rd across, winning the game, 4-3.

The SWAT ladies played OUTSTANDING the entire weekend, making their coaches and parents very, very proud!  SWAT 12U now looks forward to the I-Club Summerfest Tournament in Ankeny, July 10-12th.

Iowa SWAT competed at the Johnston Classic June 5th thru 7th in Johnston, Iowa.  The SWAT ladies went a perfect 4-0 in pool play, getting an impressive come from behind victory over the very tough Storm Softball, 3-2, in their opening game.  SWAT reached the final on Sunday with a victory over the host team Johnston Jaguars Gold, 4-3.  That setup the highly anticipated showdown with Altoona Rams Black for the Championship.

Both teams were on the field and ready for the first pitch when severe weather and heavy rain came to the fields.  Given the late time of the day and the severity of the weather, Johnston's Tournament Director decided to call the tournament and awarded both SWAT and Rams Black the Championship in a shared venture.

IOWA- "Softball with Attitude!"-MISSOURI
Monday, May 11
Iowa SWAT meets Missouri SWAT at USSSA May Madness in Ankeny IA...........

Iowa SWAT thought they were the only "Softball with Attitude" around.  Guess again.  Missouri SWAT, also "Softball with Attitude", brings a pretty mean and exciting brand of softball to the Diamonds as well.  As the May Madness Tournament in Ankeny progressed, both Iowa, and Missouri, SWAT, began to rack up the runs and victories along the way.  As bracket play began on Sunday, Missouri entered as a #1 seed.  Iowa as a #2.

As Missouri SWAT looked on and waited too learn who their opponent would be in the Championship, Iowa SWAT squeaked out a close, hard fought win, in the semi-final against Johnston Gold, 2-1.  Once Iowa reached the final, the unique matchup some were hoping for became reality......Iowa SWAT vs. Missouri SWAT, for all the marbles.

The game began with both pitchers looking strong.  Missouri went up 1-0 after the first, Iowa came back in the second and tied it, 1-1.  Missouri went up 2-1 in the top of the 3rd, Iowa answered in the bottom half, 2-2.  Neither scored in the 4th inning.  Iowa played great defense and held Missouri in the top of the 5th.  Iowa came up for its last at bat in the bottom of the 5th.  Paige Dickel led off with a walk and stole second.  Bryce Holmgren came to bat. On a 2-1 pitch, Bryce hit a hard drive to the right side at the second baseman, moving Dickel to 3rd.  Haylee LaMasters came to bat.  Haylee hits a line drve at the 2nd Baseman, without hesitation, Missouri's 2nd Baseman stabbed the drive and fired to 3rd, picking off Dickel for a double play.  Inning over, regulation over...onto International rules.

Missouri had first turn.  They moved their runner to third on a bunt resulting in the first out.  Bryce Holmgren then struckout the next batter, making two outs.  Next batter hit a hard grounder to Haylee Lamasters at 3rd, who scooped it and fired to 1st for the out.  Iowa holds.  Paige Dickel now has the chance to redeem herself, starting at 2nd base for Iowa's turn.  Kassidy Spurgin drives a grounder to the right side which moves Dickel to 3rd with one out.  Alaina Glenn steps to the plate.  On a 2-1 count, Glenn hits a deep flyball to right field.  Missouri makes the catch, Dickel tags and races home for the winning run, scoring without a play at the plate.  Great Game......Great Teams.....Great fun.

At the conclusion, in great sportsmanship, Missouri SWAT asked to meet with their opponents and take a group photo of both teams.  We obviously agreed.  All the girls accepted their awards together and posed for the pic while exchanging small talk.  A great scene for sure.

Missouri SWAT hails out of St. Joseph's, Missouri, a suburb of Kansas City. They are also setup very similar to the program at Iowa SWAT, not connected to a school program and bringing girls together from different locals around the Kansas City Area who love to play softball at a high, competitive level. Who would have thought.

Great Job Missouri SWAT.  Hopefully we'll see you at the World Series in July in KC......
