We are going to have a fantastic time in the Tee Ball division, and I hope all players enjoy themselves and have a wonderful youth sports experience. For almost every player this will be their first youth sports experience.
We will work hard, but will not forget to smile while we're doing it. Youth sports help youngsters develop life skills such as sportsmanship, teamwork, and the ability to overcome adversity. One of my favorite quotes is something I found last year after my 10U team lost several games in a row: "Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm." Sir Winston Churchill said that.
Once I posted the Churchill quote to our team page -- and started having batters rub Mr. Magoo's head before stepping up to the plate -- we won 5 games in a row.
Softball and baseball are games filled with failure -- most of the guys we see on television fail 7 out of every 10 times at the plate. Some, more. The games help teach how to deal with failure.
But who expects to fail? We've already had fun, and we're only beginning. I look forward to our time on the dirt, and for what each player will learn in the weeks ahead. Let's PLAY BALL!
