STAFFORD BRASIL: Team History

A young group of seven year-olds formed a Classic League Team in August of 2002.   After polling the players for suggested team names, one young player suggested Brasil knowing that they recently won the world cup. The team voted for the name much to the dismay of their coach from Argentina. Team Brasil was born.

Under the patient and technical guidance of Rick Thoroughgood, this young team grew and improved throughout the season. After a fun and winning season the team entered their first tournament in November 2002. They won the championship!

That was the beginning.

The players and families worked well together and started down the road of travel soccer. The player’s skills and teamwork improved throughout the year. Other classic teams expressed interest in U9 challenges.

Rick’s expertise and experience laid the foundation for building two U9 travel teams in the Fall of 2003. The teams were accepted into the NCSL division as the first U9 boys teams from the Stafford Soccer Club (SSC).

20 players & families dove into travel soccer with gusto in the Fall of 2003!

Stafford Brasil has developed a love for soccer, a focus on technical skills, and exceptional teamwork among both their players and their parents throughout the U9, U10, U11, U12, U13 and U14 seasons.

Stafford Brasil continues to bring in professional training expertise and focus on age appropriate soccer skills. The collaborative nature and support between the individual players is evident both on and off the field. The dedicated parents continue to enhance the travel soccer experience for both the players and their families.
