Spring Township Athletic Association: 2010 Spring Season Divisions
Player must reside in the Wilson School District. This includes girls from St. Ignatius.
This is a girls league for K and 1st graders. This is an instructional, non-competitive league based on grade - NO EXCEPTIONS. Teams will be organized based on requests to play with friends, no guarantees.
This league will play and/or practice 1-2x/week. Practices will be 1.5 hours long and focus on developing fundamental skills (throwing, fielding, batting) and basic knowledge of the game. Games will be 1 hour long and be preceeded by 30- 45 minutes of skills instruction and practice. Girls will hit off of a tee initially and will be introduced to coach pitch.
Instr T-Ball (Boys) --- Commissioner - Haniff Skeete
Kindergarten - Instructional T-Ball
Player must reside or attend school in the Wilson School District.
This is a boys league for Kindergarteners. This league is not based on age; all participants will be in Kindergarten. No exceptions!
This is an instructional league that plays on Sundays. Sessions are comprised of a one hour instructional session followed by a NON-COMPETITIVE 1 inning, 30 minute game.
Players will receive instruction on hitting, fielding, throwing and the basic rules of baseball. All players will hit off of a batting tee.
T-Ball (Boys) --- Commissioner - Joe Strause
This is a Boys league for 1st graders.
Player must reside or attend school in the Wilson School District.
This league is not based on age, all participants will be in 1st grade. No exceptions!
This is an instructional league that plays throughout the week. Approximately three times per week. Games are separate from practice sessions and are NON-COMPETITIVE 1.5 hour games.
Players will receive instruction on hitting, fielding, throwing and the basic rules of baseball. Coach pitching will be introduced along with hitting off of a batting tee.
Little Dawgs (Girls) - Commissioner - Joe Marx
This is a Girls league for 2nd - 3rd graders.
Player must reside in or attend school in the Wilson School District. This includes girls from St. Ignatius.
This is an instructional, recreational, non-competitive league based on grade, no exceptions. Teams will be organized based on requests to play with friends, no guarantees.
This league will play and practice 2 times per week. Practices will be separate from games. Games are non-competitive with duration no longer than 2 hours. Girls will pitch modified fast pitch in the games with some coach pitching to keep the games moving along and to give players a good opportunity for success with hitting. (Please refer to league rules for further explanation)
Players will receive instruction in development of fundamental skills (fielding, throwing, and batting), be introduced to pitching modified fastpitch and learn basic knowledge of the game and rules.
Big Dawgs (Girls) --- Commissioner - Tracy Lewis
This is a Girls league for 4th - 6th graders.
Player must reside in or attend school in the Wilson School District. This includes girls from St. Ignatius.
this is an instructional, in-house, recreational league. Girls who are interested in competitive play are encouraged to tryout for STAA's 12U BCGSL team. Girls in these grades who are not selected for the 12U BCGSL County team will be placed in the Big Dawgs" league if they choose (grades 4-6). Teams will be organized based on requests to play with friends, no guarantees.
This league will play and practice 3x/week. Games are separate from practices and are semi-competitive 2 hour games. Girls will pitch fastpitch in the games with coach pitching when there are 4 walks in an inning. Bunting and stealing on a limited basis will be permitted in the games. (Please refer to league rules for further explanation) A post-season tournament may be played dependent on the number of teams in the league.
Players will be instructed in development of fundamental softball skills (batting, fielding, stealing, bunting, throwing), rules of the game, and basic strategies of the game.
Triple A League (Boys) --- Commissioner - Joel Marino
2nd Grade Boys Minors
Player must reside or attend school in the Wilson School District.
This is a boys league for 2nd graders. This league is not based on age, all participants will be in 2nd grade. No exceptions!
This is an instructional league that plays throughout the week. Approximately three times per week. Games are separate from practice sessions and are NON-COMPETITIVE 1.5 hour games.
Players will receive instruction on hitting, fielding, throwing and the basic rules of baseball. All pitching will be done by a Zooka pitching machine, which uses air to throw hardballs @43 mph.
Double A League (boys) - Commissioner - Amy Antos
3rd Grade Boys Minors
Player must reside or attend school in the Wilson School District.
This is a boys league for 3rd graders. This league is not based on age, all participants will be in 3rd grade. No exceptions!
This is an instructional league that plays throughout the week. Approximately three times per week. Games are separate from practice sessions and are NON-COMPETITIVE 2 hour games.
Players will receive instruction on hitting, fielding, throwing and the basic rules of baseball. Bunting will be introduced. Pitching will be done by boys. All boys will get the opportunity to pitch. Coaches will finish innings after 3-4 walks by a player.
American League (Boys) --- Commissioner - Butch O'Neill
Ages 10-12 or 4th Grade Boys Majors American League and National League
Player must reside or attend school in the Wilson School District.
This is a boys league for 10-12 year olds or 4th graders (that are league age 9, and played Blue the previous year). This league is primarily based on age. Participants will be league age 10-12 and mainly will fall into 4th-6th grade.
The American League is all 10 year olds (and 9 yr 4th graders) and some 11 year olds based on evaluations and the draft.
The National League is all 12 year olds and some 11 year olds based on evaluations and the draft.
10 year olds that are in 5th grade will be eligible for the National League, based on evaluations and the draft.
This is an instructional league that plays throughout the week. Approximately three-four times per week. Games are separate from practice sessions and are SEMI-COMPETITIVE 2 hour games.
Players will receive instruction on hitting, fielding, throwing and the basic rules of baseball. Stealing will be introduced. All pitching will be done by boys. At this level players begin to play only a few positions.
Evaluations will be held to aid in the draft process and to determine which league a child falls into. Coaches will draft teams with the goal being equal talent distribution among the teams.
National League - (Boys) --- Commissioner - Dale Smith
Ages 10-12 or 4th Grade Boys Majors American League and National League
Player must reside or attend school in the Wilson School District.
This is a boys league for 10-12 year olds or 4th graders (that are league age 9, and played Blue the previous year). This league is primarily based on age. Participants will be league age 10-12 and mainly will fall into 4th-6th grade.

Player must reside in the Wilson School District.
14 &U This is a competitive girls league for girls in at least 7th grade and who are 13 or 14 years old as of Jan. 1 of that season. Players will be selected based on evaluations performed in May. The season begins in June and ends at the end of July.
Tournament Team selected players are chosen by the Sr. softball coaches to participate in various tournaments during the summer months. This includes travel and usually occurs over an entire weekend(s).
18&U This is a competitive girls league for girls who ages 15-18 by Jan. 1 of that season. Players will be selected based on evaluations performed in May. The season begins in June and ends at the end of July.
Sr. Girls Softball League is a very competitive league and plays in the Berks county Girls Softball League. Travel within the county is expected for games. They will play/practice approximately 3-4 times per week. This league follows ASA rules of the game, it is fast pitch, and includes stealing bases.
Senior League - (Boys) --- Commissioner - Don Uhrig
This Division includes the following levels:
Senior Babe Ruth - 16 to 18 year olds
Junior Babe Ruth - 13 to 15 year olds
Western Berks - 13 to 15 olds
