Shorewood Soccer League: News

Due to field conditions, ALL games have been cancelled for Halloween (Saturday, Oct. 31st.) 

The make up day is Saturday, November 7th.  All games will be played at the originally scheduled times, except for the U10 games.

  U10 games will follow the 10/24/09 game schedule. 

The U10 games scheduled for Halloween will not be rescheduled.  Sorry. 

Reminder:  Coaches do not reschedule games - that is the league's responsibility.

Congrats to Ed Schultz' U14 team, Shorewood United, for making the Semi-Finals at the Morris Tournament on Saturday!  We came in 4th place!

 Focuses on winning and life lessons for youth athletes

Shorewood Soccer League has established a partnership with Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) to ensure a positive, character-building experience for all youth athletes in Shorewood Soccer programs.

PCA (www.PositiveCoach.org), a Stanford University-based non-profit organization, conducts workshops for coaches, organizational leaders, and parents involved in schools and sports organizations serving five-to-18-year-old athletes. PCA also provides workshops for high school athletes. “Working with hundreds of youth sports organizations around the United States, PCA has developed practical tools and guidelines to help youth athletes, their coaches and parents get the most out of sports,” said Shorewood Soccer Vice Commissioner and Head of Coaches, Freddy Ponce. “We recognize the tremendous opportunity for character-building sports offers for today’s youth, so we are embracing PCA’s Double-Goal Coach^TM model, where winning is one goal and teaching life lessons is the second, more-important goal.” 

“We are delighted to partner with Shorewood Soccer,” said PCA Executive Director Jim Thompson. “Together, we’ll strive to help their youth athletes take a positive approach to pursuing victories in athletic competition and in life.” The workshops are scheduled to begin this Spring.  For information about the dates and locations, please contact sslheadcoach@shorewoodsoccer.org.

Since its launch in 1998, PCA has conducted thousands of live group workshops nationwide for roughly 200,000 youth sports leaders, coaches, parents and athletes, ultimately serving more than 1 million youth athletes. After each game day, the score sheet information is compiled and sent to the Herald News to be published in the sports section.  This usually happens either Saturday or Sunday - if everything goes right.  If travel team results haven't been sent in to the league, this can lead to delays before results are sent in.

Shorewood Soccer is actively recruiting soccer referees at this time! 

If you are 12 and over and have played soccer before you are eligible!!  We are also extremely interested in experienced referees, which we are extremely short on, to handle U12 & U14 games.  So, if you are interested in making a little extra money and are interested, please contact Barney McGrane, Head of Referees at:

Last Volunteer Opportunity of the Season!

On November 1st, from 10am until Noon, we are asking for up to 8 volunteers to help us close down the practice fields at our Crossroads Fields located behind Troy Crossroads School on Black Rd.  Things we will be tackling include:

• Moving goals.
• Dismantling goals.
• Removing and bagging nets.
• Garbage removal and can storage.
• Coaches bag equipment inventory.
