Southern Region Ringette Association: Welcome
Welcome to the Southern Region Ringette Association.
Please browse the items to the left for information.
Ringette is a sport played on ice by teams of female players. It is non-contact and is known as the fastest game on ice. Ages range from toddlers to seniors and it is played internationally. For more information click here: http://www.ringette.ca
Ringette in Ontario Canada is organized by the Ontario Ringette Association http://www.ontario-ringette.com and we are the Southern Region of the ORA. Our seventeen local associations are located in the Niagara Peninsula, the areas west of Toronto out to Cambridge / Paris / Ayr and the areas north and slightly to the west of Toronto up to Georgian Bay. Most of our associations are within a one hour drive of each other.
The Southern Region Ringette Association (SRRA) exists to promote, administer and develop the sport of Ringette within our boundaries. We do this by organizing the coaching and referee training clinics, approving player movements and contracts, monitoring all game sheets and enforcing disciplinary action, having a games and tournaments representative at all sanctioned tournaments, and co-hosting the year end Regional Championship tournaments. This website contains the information needed to support these activities. Our annual coaching handbook is a particularly important source of information (See the "Coaching" page on the left).
The Southern Region (2010/11) in numbers:
-
2,400 league games
-
2,200 players of all ages
-
2,000 tournament games hosted
-
600 active volunteers
-
200 active referees
-
168 coaching and officiating clinic participants
- 120 teams from U7 to University
- 18 associations
- 13 invitational tournaments (plus the new Richmond Hill Petite Provincial tune-up this year)
- 10 Come Try Ringette sessions
- 5 leagues in whole or in part
- 1 Regional tournament (Hamilton) with 70 teams
- 1 Provincial tournament (Mississauga) with 24 teams
- 1 National tournament (Cambridge) with 27 teams
Note: The SRRA is not be confused with the SRRL or Southern Region Ringette League. SRRL is a separate entity formed to give SRRA B teams a convenient league to play in. SRRA teams near other leagues often play in them instead as a matter of convenience. The SRRA A and AA teams tend to play in CORL (Central Ontario Ringette League). The rules, procedures and finances of the various leagues are determined by the league executives and not by SRRA. (In reality, given the limited pool of volunteers a lot of the same names will tend to pop up in various organizations, but remember SRRA and SRRL are NOT one and the same.)

Southern Region Coaching Clinics Fall 2011
Updated 17 October 2011 with CI-2 confirmation
For all courses – This year there is a brand new system in place that lets all coaching registrants register over the web. Yes, we have finally entered the new millennia and there is much rejoicing. There is less paperwork for us and a much faster accreditation for you.
Please go to the Ringette Canada website (www.ringette.ca), click on the 'Coaching' tab and create a profile for yourself by clicking on 'Register Now'. You will then create a username and password which will give you the ability to register for clinics and give you access to various coaching resource materials that Ringette Canada is planning to have available in the near future. (Keep track of what you enter because from now on every course you take will use this same log on so that all your qualifications will be under the same name.)
When you are logged in, choose 'Clinics' from the menu across the top of the page and select the clinic you would like to register for. You will see all the clinics in Ontario and you can register for any venue that you like. You will receive an automatic e-mail from the system confirming your registration.
Please register on-line before you arrive. If you do not then it will be much harder to add you after the fact! If you register on-line but do not attend there is no downside to you.
When you have successfully completed the course you will receive a printed certificate to use until your registration in the national database becomes effective.
Finally, coaches taking CSI or CI-1 this year have until Jan 8th *2013* to complete their online MED evaluation.
The individual coaching clinics are being organized as follows:

5. If there is demand for a fifth CSI we will schedule one for Nov 26th or 27th.
All CSI courses cost $125 again this year. Payment must be made at the door or arrangements for payment made beforehand. Lack of payment may result in being turned away!
All courses will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (give or take) on the day specified. There will be a break for lunch.
There will be an hour of ice for each course so bring your helmet and skates. Non-skaters are welcome but make sure the instructors understand your situation.

There a couple of ways to get money for clinics and tournaments into our hands.
- The traditional way is to get it taken to the monthly SRRA meeting (typically the first Wednesday of each month) by your president or SRRA rep. They can hand it over to the Treasurer personallly and between them they can check that it is for the correct amount, what it is in payment of, and that the payee (SRRA) is correct and not the ORA or the home association.
- The second way is to make the cheque payable to "S.R.R.A." and mail it to our Treasurer at this address: Marise Robb, 46 Tuscany Court, Cambridge N1R 7K4

There is a video on YouTube put up by Ringette Canada that lists all the different skills in Ringette and tells when they should be introduced, acquired, consolidated and refined. It covers all age groups and levels of play.
Check it out at: http://www.youtube.com/user/RingetteCanada#p/u/13/zHDJqGa0tpg
There are also links on the Ringette Canada website to eight brand new videos on the different stages of Ringette skills. This should really help clarify what is expected. Find it at: http://www.ringette.ca/Content/LTAD/The%208%20Stages.asp?langid=1

Coaching Qualification Requirements
Please Note: The following article contains a number of references to the ORA website and other ORA documents that are not yet final. We expect these references and documents to be finalized and released within the next couple of weeks.
A complete chart and explanation of bench staff qualification requirements for Ontario Ringette Sanctioned Play can be found on the Ontario Ringette website (http://www.ontario-ringette.com/coaching/requirements.php?sub=coaching).
(ORA Coaching Development Manual - See pages 3-8)
Please note the information there is last year's info, an updated version is expected shortly. This website is not intended to be an exhaustive summary of those requirements, but is intended to assist Southern Region coaches in registering for the necessary coaching clinics.
The National Coaches' Certification Program for the training and certification of Ringette coaches has been developed by Ringette Canada and the Coaching Association of Canada.
The following is a summary of the clinics required depending on the level of team you are associated with.
If you are the Head Coach or an Assistant Coach of a U8, U9, U10 'B' team, you are required to attend a Community Sport Initiation (CSI) clinic.
If you are the Head Coach or an Assistant Coach of a U12 Provincial team or an 'A' level team, you are required to attend a Competition Introduction Part 1 (CI-1) clinic. If you are coaching an 'AA' level team, you are also required to attend a Competition Introduction Part 2 (CI-2) clinic.
'AA' level coaches must also complete the CI-1 and CI-2 Evaluations after attending the CI-1 and CI-2 clinics. See the Ontario Ringette Association website for instructions as to how to apply for these Evaluations. These evaluations must be completed by January 8th of the playing season.
All coaches must become MED (Make Ethical Decisions) Certified. This involves completing a MED training module (part of the CSI and CI clinics) and then completing an online evaluation through the Coaching Association of Canada website.
Assistant Coaches in Training (those who are 16 or 17 years of age as of December 31st of the playing season) are required to attend a CSI clinic or a CI clinic in accordance with the team's level of play as per above.
Trainers must be certified in Standard First Aid. Trainers on U12 Provincial, 'A' and 'AA' teams must also attend either a CSI or a CI clinic.
The Manager Certification program is available online on the Ringette Canada website.
New: Registering for a Coaching Clinic
Ringette Canada has developed a national coach registry and a brand new online clinic registration system that we are using as of the 2011/12 season. We are excited about this because it will greatly reduce the paperwork and greatly speed up the accreditation of results.
Please go to the Ringette Canada website (www.ringette.ca), click on the 'Coaching' tab and create a profile for yourself by clicking on 'Register Now'. You will then have a username and password which will give you the ability to register for clinics and give you access to various coaching resource materials that Ringette Canada is planning to have available in the near future.
When you are logged in, chose 'Clinics' from the menu across the top of the page and select the clinic you would like to register for. You will receive an automatic e-mail from the system confirming your registration.
Both the CSI clinic and the CI clinic involve some ice time so bring your helmet and skates. Posted clinic hours are approximate. You will receive an e-mail closer to the clinic date with specific details as to time, room locations, and what to bring. If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact Robert Crandall at srrachair@cogeco.ca.
CI-1 clinics will cost $175 again this year and CSI clinics will be $125 again.
You must arrive with the clinic payment in hand or make prior arrangements for your association to pay. Candidates who have not done so may be turned away.
