WELCOME TO SOUTH PARKLAND YOUTH BASKETBALL

BASKETBALL 2009-10 SEASON

  Overview of program
The South Parkland Basketball programs offers fun and instructive basketball for o
ver 800 boys and girls from Kindergarten to 12th grade. The main goal of the program is to teach the fundamentals of the game, develop confidence, and have fun with the game of basketball. Emphasis is on the TEAM philosophy!
The in-house co-ed kindergartern, first, and second grade programs combines girls and boys into a non-competitive environment where the basic fundamentals (driblling, passing, rebounding, and shooting) are instructed. Games consist of 4 vx 4 or 5 vs 5 play with modified rules (no stealing the dribble, limited stealing of passes, limited fast breaks). Equal playing of all players is mandated and no scores are kept.
Beginning in the third grade, the intramural program partcipates in the Parkland Basketball League. The Parkland league consists of refereed 5 vs 5 games on full courts against teams throughout the Parkland school district. The higher the grade level, the more competitive the level of play. At the lower levels, no score is kept and there are no playoffs. At the 7 thru 12 level, scores are kept. Equal playing time is required in the Parkland league.
SPYA also offers more competitive travel teams for both boys and girls within the Lehigh Valley Knee Hi league and the Junior Varsity league. These travel teams are offered for boys and girls from the 4th grade level to the 9th grade level. All players must tryout and be selected for the travel teams. Players who do not make the Travel teams will be placed on the intramural teams within the Parkland Basketball League.
