Winged Lions deal Boyertown first PAC-10 loss

POTTSTOWN - It's not immediately known the last time the St. Pius X High baseball team won a game with Boyertown.
But it's a certainty Tuesday's matchup of the longtime neighborhood rivals, under the lights at Sundstrom Field, will be remembered for quite some time ... and fondly, by the Winged Lions' faithful fans.
Pius won this Pioneer Athletic Conference contest in dramatic fashion, 13-12. The host team (4-4) scored the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh, that after seeing the Bears (7-1) pull even in the top of the frame.
The game was tied at 12-all when Pius came to bat in the seventh. Leadoff batter Josh Martin was fanned by Boyertown pitcher Garret Crable, but he reached base when the third strike was dropped. Brian Hartsell then moved Martin into scoring position by hitting a double. After the Bears got Steve Cimino on a putout at first base, they intentionally walked Matt Lesinski to load the bases. The next batter, Kevin Kieffer, worked a 3-2 count off Crable before drawing the walk that forced in the winning run.
That made a winner of Kenny Brock, who came on to pitch with one away in the sixth. Pius came out of that inning with a 12-10 lead, only to see Boyertown tie things up in the top of the seventh.
