My Site News: Pius makes it two in a row

Pius makes it two in a row
The St. Pius X Winged Lions won their second straight league game on Thursday night defeating Spring-Ford 8-5 before a good crowd at Ram Stadium. The Lions used a twelve-hit attack and strong pitching from Joe Kieba and Tom DeAngelis to secure the victory. Kieba surrendered just two earned runs on five hits. DeAngelis closed the game striking out two Rams in the 1-2-3 seventh inning.

Pius scored their first run in the third inning on a double by DeAngelis, a single by Joe Feldman, and an RBI single by Kenny Brock. Spring-Ford tied the game in their half of the third when Rich Guthridge drove a deep single to centerfield scoring Larry Perry who reached base on an error.

The Winged Lions offense got untracked in their half of the fifth inning. DeAngelis and Feldman led off with singles, followed by an RBI single from Brock. Brian Hartsell walked, and then Steve Cimino ripped a 2-RBI single to left center. Hartsell scored on a throwing error to the plate. Later in the inning, a Jason Blain single scored Matt Lesinski, who reached on a fielder’s choice, and Kevin Kieffer, who singled.

Spring-Ford mounted a comeback in the sixth inning, making it a 7-5 game, when Dan McGrory walked, Anthony Quintageli singled, Marty Early tripled, and Perry reached on an error and scored on a wild pitch.

Pius added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Lesinski launched a triple to right-center and scored on a Kieffer double down the left field line.
