CASTRO CONQUERS AZTECS
The Phillies started big -- Miles Peterson (6'2" tall) as he was stretched out to the maximum of 95 pitches. (95 maximum for 14 year olds). Peterson held the Aztecs to 3 runs in 6 innings allowing minimal damage to the short handed Phils. With only 8 healthy players the Phils had to dip into the player pool (Juniors has a volunteer reserve, all teams have access). So the Phils needed some players, thanks Trever Barron (T-Bone) and Erik Bessner!
Trailing 3-1 in the 6th, Andrew Radcliffe knocked in the tying run, making it 3-3 after 6. That's when the Phils went small--as in the smallest player on the team. Ryan Jaso with a walkoff hit already this year, pitched the last 4 innings-scoreless with 4 strikeouts. Top of the 11th, Kevin Castro lined a double putting the Phils up by three. After that, the Little Big Man, Ryan J. closed out the Aztecs keeping the Phils perfect at 7-0.
See ya Wednesday, vs the SMVLL Rays at 6:00. Players please be at the cages @ 4:30!
NISHIKI SLUGS SOX
Adam Burke and Michael Mullen were a combined 5-6 with 3 doubles and four runs scored leading the Phils to a 13-2 triumph over the Tijeras Red Sox. The Phils are 5-0 and 2 games up in the standings.
Miles Peterson and Burke split the pitching duties, striking out 5 and allowing two unearned runs in 5 innings. But it was Keefer Nishiki's 3 run homer to centerfield that cemented the victory and ended the game due to the mercy rule (10 runs ahead after 5 innings). Other contributers were Stef Colucci 2 for 2, Collin Sullivan RBI triple, Kevin Castro 2 run double, and Zach Chapin 1 for 2.
After the game we headed over to So. California Pizza to celebrate!
Next Game: Weds. March 18 @ 6:00. Phillies vs. SMV Angels. Please be at the cages by 4:30.
