SJUMC Basketball:SJUMC Parent/Player Requirements

SJUMC Basketball

In accordance with the Northern California Church League (NCCL) as well as support for SJUMC, the Basketball Board has established the following Parent Participation Requirements and Player Attendance Requirements:

Parent Participation Requirements

In support of SJUMC and its basketball program, all parents are required to provide volunteer help for events held throughout the year. Parent participation is comprised of two separate obligations. One is to provide support for several annual Church Events sponsored by SJUMC. The other is to provide support for the annual SJUMC Basketball Tournament.

For the Church Events, B, C, D, E, and Instructional parents must volunteer a minimum of one shift (4 hours) per player at one or more of the following events:

  • SJUMC Fall Bazaar - October 3, 2009.
  • SJUMC Crab Feed - February 13, 2010.

For the SJUMC Basketball Tournament, B, C, D, and E parents must also volunteer a minimum of one shift per player.

SJUMC deeply appreciates the families of the basketball program and the many hours of help the families provide to the church and tournament events. To insure that the basketball program continues to support SJUMC in this manner, a $150.00 deposit is required for each player participating in the basketball program (this includes Instructional League participants). The deposit will be returned when the participation requirements are fulfilled.

Player Attendance Requirements

The Attendance/Community Service Requirement of 60% (24 credits) is a Northern California Church League (NCCL) requirement for B, C, D, and E players.

All attendance credits must be submitted by July 6, 2010. Envelopes post-marked July 7th will be accepted. Absolutely no credits will be accepted after July 7th, no exceptions. 24 credits must be earned between Sept 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010 to be eligible to participate in the program the following season. Returning players with:

  • 23-20 attendance credits - suspended 1 game.
  • 19-15 attendance credits - suspended 2 games.
  • 14-10 attendance credits - suspended 3 games.
  • Less than 10 attendance credits will be suspended for the following year.

Only 1 credit can be earned for attending SJUMC Sunday School and/or Worship Service. Only 6 of the required 24 credits may be earned through community service. Community Service must be approved by any Board Member prior to the service. Two hours of community service equals one attendance credit. There is a separate Community Service Credit form. If you attend SJUMC Sunday School and/or Worship Service, you do not need to submit the monthly Attendance Service Credit form. You do, however, need to fill out the Community Service Credit form if needed and submit to the Attendance Coordinator.

For those attending other churches you need to fill out an Attendance Service Credit form and have it signed by the proper church authority and submitted monthly to the SJUMC attendance coordinator during the season.

There will be an attendance check on January 5, 2010. All participating players must have at least 12 attendance credits at the time. Failure to meet the minimum requirement will result in suspension(s) in the second half of the NCCL season.

Attendance forms must be submitted or post-marked no later than January 9, 2010. After this date, a player is considered suspended for the remainder of the season until his/her attendance forms are submitted. Midway check with:

  • 10-11 attendance credits - suspended 1 game.
  • 7-9 attendance credits - suspended 2 games.
  • 4-6 attendance credits - suspended 3 games.
  • 0-3 attendance credits - suspended for the current season.
