Dear SJUMC Basketball Families:
On behalf of the 2009-10 SJUMC Basketball Board, I would like to welcome you to another season of church basketball. The 2009-10 basketball season promises to be an exciting one. We will continue to utilize this website which includes information such as: registration information (Registration 2009-10), up-to-date news (SJUMC News), board member contact information (Board Members), season calendar of events (Season Calendar), schedules for all divisions (Season Schedules), gym addresses (Gym Locations), NCCL by-laws (NCCL Rules), parent participation and player attendance requirements (SJUMC Parent/Player Requirements), parents and coaches code of conduct (SJUMC Code of Conduct), handouts (forms) (SJUMC Handouts), and parent meeting notices (Site Home - Upcoming Events). Note that the Season Schedules and SJUMC Teams (including Practice Schedules) on this website will be established sometime after registration is completed.
The SJUMC basketball program is open to youth entering kindergarten thru 12th grade. This year's Instructional Program (Kindergarten - 2nd Grade) will return to the original format (one session vs. two). The 2009 Instructional Program will start on November 6, 2009 and ends on February 12, 2010. Practices will be on Fridays from 6:00pm to 7:15pm at SASF. Our Instructional Program fills up quickly so we encourage you to register early and pass the information on to those interested in joining our program. Practices for 3rd - 12th grades begin on October 5, 2009. The time and location will depend on team assignment.
Sunday School Registration will be held September 13, 2009 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. A special Sunday School parents meeting will be from 9:30am to 10:00am in the social hall. Please meet the pastor and Sunday School teachers at that time. Sunday School will begin on September 13 shortly after the introduction of the teachers, and the parents will stay in the social hall for the meeting.
Like last year, the second Sunday of each month is a Family Worship Service beginning at 10:30am with NO SUNDAY SCHOOL those Sundays. The First Family Worship Service is September 13th at 10:30am. On all other Sundays, students and teachers will meet in the sanctuary at 9:30am for announcements and then excused for class at 9:35am.
This year, children 4th grade and older, are encouraged to sign up to be an acolyte (lighting the candles at the beginning of the service) and a reader (read scripture during the service). The sign up sheet will be available during the Sunday School Registration.
Immediately following the Worship Service on September 13 is the Welcome/Welcome Back Luncheon for the Pastor, Choir, Sunday School Teachers, etc. Please bring a dish and join in the fellowship.
All basketball parents and their children are encouraged to attend the SJUMC church worship services. Please see the Church Activity and Basketball Program Calendar for list of events and activities.
