BRAVES WIN 2006 S.I.B.A. CHAMPIONSHIP BY SLIMMEST OF MARGINS
The Braves are the 2006 SIBA Champions as they swept the Eastern Division Champion Giants 2 games to none in the best-of-three title series.
The champions took the first game on the Giants' home field by a score of 2-1. In the top of the seventh inning with the score tied at 1-1, Joe Perella, who had previously singled and advanced to third on an errant pick-off throw, scored on a smash back to the mound that the Giants pitcher couldn't handle. Perella also was the winning pitcher in Game 1, going 7 complete innings.
Back in Tiverton for Game 2, Tyler Ferreira's triple and an infield single by Alex Jarman accounted for the only run of the game and 13-year-old lefty John Hartnett made 1-0 score stand up with the second straight complete game victory for Braves pitching in the series. Hartnett barely outdueled Giants pitcher Nick Friar, who also shone on the mound mixing in an effective curve ball witn a plus fastball to effectively shut down the Braves until Ferreira's 4th inning triple.
The Braves finished 2006 with an overall record of 16-10 with the Giants at 17-7.
