ROUNDING THIRD BLOG-2008 Top 5 College Development Programs (CDP's)
This is our second annual ranking of what we used to call"travel teams" in the United States. Of course, we now know that theyis so much more to baseball development than just teams that travel. These elite clubs in our next two days of articles are true CollegeDevelopment Programs or CDP's. Our research and information was basedon what is published on major baseball web sites as well as resultsgathered from the top tournament and showcase sites.
Butmostly, we ranked the teams by using the following criteria...1) Formerplayers that went on to college. 2) Present players that are verballycommitted. 3) Former players that were drafted. 4) Former playersplaying in MLB. 5) Former or present players that have been named to aNational Team or received national attention. 6) National Championshipswon.
So, based on that criteria, below is our top 5 CollegeDevelopment Programs. Actually there are 6. We have a tie for first. This stuff is hard folks. There's a lot to like about more than just 5teams. #2 San Gabriel Valley Arsenal TheArsenal was established in the summer of 2001 with players throughoutthe San Gabriel Valley. They had 24 players from the Class of 2008commit to college and 2 first round draft picks in Aaron Hicks andGerrit Cole. Cole made the national news this year by opting out of playing for the Yankees in favor of aspot on the UCLA roster, where he is in the middle of fall workouts.Zach Collier was also a first round supplemental pick of the Phillies.Altogether, they had an impressive 10 players drafted...all but one inthe 26th round or better.
Jonathan Singleton was their loneAFLAC All American, but that's coming off a year in 2007 when they hadfour AFLAC All-Americans on their squad. This program knows the in andouts of baseball and there is not a College Development Program in thewest coast that doesn't have respect for the Arsenal. They play theright tourney's and get exposure for their players with regularity.Their fall schedule includes WWBA World Championships in Jupiter,Junior Fall Classic in Peoria, AZ. and the Cory Lidle ThanksgivingTournament. That's a great line-up that will greatly benefit theirplayers. #1 NorCal Baseball-Tie #1 ABD-Tie #2 SGV Arsenal #3 East Cobb Baseball #4 Dallas Tigers #5 Houston Heat Best of the Rest: New England Ruffnecks All American Prospects Richmond Braves Houston Banditos South Carolina Diamond Devils Georgio Roadrunners
